  • 21、Do you use hand gestures(姿势) when you talk? Do you open your mouth and eyes wide when you are surprised? These are all examples of body language. How important can it be? Follow Teens and have a look.

Body language does not use words. It uses the movement or position of your body to show certain meanings. According to American scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is body language. In some cases you even express yourself without words. For example, if your friend asks you to join him in a picnic, you will give him an “OK” gesture to say “Yes, sounds great!” Sometimes, your words say one thing, but your body language says another. You may do things unconsciously(无意识地) like touching your face while telling a lie.

In different cultures, the same body language means different things. In the US, making eye contact(眼神交流) with someone means you are interested in what the person is saying. While in some Asian countries, it is rude to look into a person’s eyes during a conversation.

Sometimes, different body language expresses the same meaning. Take “hello” for example. French people kiss cheeks (脸颊) to say hello. Japanese people bow (鞠躬). • 23、   Are you nearsighted (近视)? If you are, your parents might have tried to do something to fix it, such as having you get an eye massage (按摩), take medicine or even get surgery. People who offer these services or products often claim that they can reduce or even cure myopia (治愈近视).

However, you will no longer see advertisements like this before long. The government has issued a notice targeting advertisements that make these claims. Specifically, the notice bans (禁止) businesses from using wording like "recovery" and "myopia cure" in their advertisements, People's Daily reported.

The notice says that myopia cannot be completely cured with current medical technology. Therefore, these advertisements could mislead children and their parents.

Young people can prevent and control myopia by spending more time outside and less time in front of books or computers. People who have vision (视力) problems should go to a hospital and let a doctor decide what to do.

More than 450 million Chinese were suffering from myopia as of June 2018, Xinhua News Agency reported. Myopia rates are around 30 percent for primary school students, 60 percent for junior high students and 80 percent for senior high students. This is likely because students spend a lot of time reading books and using electronic devices (电子产品).

To reduce myopia among young people, the government made a new plan last August. The plan is designed to limit (限制) the amount of time children spend playing video games, as well as limit the production of new video games, according to China Daily.

  • 24、As young students, you have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize; they can also be small, such as becoming one of the best students in your class. Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream real?

Andrew Matews, an Australian writer, tells us that making your dreams real is life’s biggest challenge. You may think you’re not very good at some school subjects, or that it’s impossible for you to become a writer. Those kinds of ideas stop you from realizing your dream.

In fact, everyone can realize his dream. The first thing you must do is to remember what your dream is. Don’t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams.

You must also never give up your dream. There will be difficulties on the road to your dreams. But the biggest difficulty comes from you. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book.

As you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the chance to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.
