  • 21、As a child, I never considered myself an athlete at all as I was very uncoordinated (不协调的). However, I did love to run because I felt as if I was flying but this all changed two years ago when I suffered a knee injury. I was bedridden for two weeks and I had a difficult time moving even short distances. I literally cried myself on my way to the car for a few days.

When therapy wasn’t working well for me, I signed up for a hot yoga class for girls, Bikram Yoga to be exact. Starting a yoga practice was truly a godsend because it helped me gain strength in my knees but, most importantly, yoga helped me attain a more peaceful state of mind, body and spirit.

Since each class was heated to 105°F, every time I stepped foot in the yoga studio, I’d feel a surge (涌起) of negative thoughts come upon me like a big ocean wave. Some of these thoughts were, in the beginning of my practice, so strong that I walked out of the class several times. However, as the months passed by, I noticed that when I didn’t get swayed away by my negative thoughts, I could stay in the hot room for longer.

After 3-4 months of practicing hot yoga, my arms and legs were beginning to get definition. I also woke up with so much more energy than I had before starting my yoga practice and I gradually started shedding the pounds from my body. Yoga literally made me feel as if I’d taken a shot of energy drink and just gave me that burst that helped my knees heal and made my overall health better.

As I saw some of my classmates do poses that looked appealing to me, I started to think maybe I could do them too. Therefore, yoga helped show me that I have no real limitations physically unless I set those limitations myself through eating junk and thinking in negative limiting terms.

Also, practicing yoga in front of a mirror helped me connect with myself and practicing with a group of people really helped me to feel a greater sense of connection with humanity whereas before I didn’t. Overall, this yoga practice has helped me to see I’m part of a bigger picture in life!

【1】What once depressed the author terribly?

    A.Her inability to walk.

    B.Her being uncoordinated.

C.Her failure to find her car.

B.She couldn’t bear the pain the knee injury brought.

C.She was greatly influenced by negative thoughts.

D.Lack of confidence prevented the author doing yoga.

【4】What can we learn about the author from paragraph 4?

A.She did better than her classmates at school.

B.Her physical state has acquired a new outlook.

C.She has developed many healthy eating habits.

D.To share with readers her experience in taking yoga classes.

  • 22、A major challenge for fully autonomous vehicles is navigating bad weather, snow especially. Averaging more than 200 inches of snow every winter, Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula is the perfect place to push autonomous vehicle tech to its limits. In two papers presented at SPIE Defense+Commercial Sensing 2021, researchers from Michigan Technological University discuss solutions for snowy driving scenarios that could help bring self-driving options to snowy cities like Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis and Toronto.

Just like the weather at times, self-driving is not a sunny or snowy yes-no designation (指定). Autonomous vehicles cover a series of levels, from cars already on the market with blind spot warnings or braking assistance, to vehicles that can switch in and out of self-driving modes, to others that can navigate entirely on their own. Major automakers and research universities are still tweaking self-driving technology. Occasionally accidents occur, either due to a misjudgment by the car’s artificial intelligence(AI) or a human driver’s misuse of self-driving features.

Humans have sensors, too: our scanning eyes, our sense of balance and movement, and the processing power of our brain help us understand our environment. These seemingly basic inputs allow us to drive in virtually every scenario, even if it is new to us, because human brains are good at generalizing new experiences. In autonomous vehicles, two cameras scan and perceive depth using stereo vision to mimic human vision, while balance and motion can be gauged(计量) using a measurement unit. But computers can only react to situations they have encountered before or been programmed to recognize.

Since artificial brains aren’t around yet, task-specific artificial intelligence(AI) algorithms(计算) must take the wheel. Fisheye cameras widen the view while other cameras act much like the human eye. Infrared(红外线) picks up heat signatures. Radar can see through the fog and rain.

“All snow is not created equal,” Bos said, pointing out that the variety of snow makes sensor detection a challenge. “AI is like a chef -- if you have good ingredients, there will be an excellent meal,” he said.

【1】In what aspect is self-driving similar to the weather?

    A.Both need assistance.

    B.Both give warnings.

    C.Both extend their limits.

    D.Both have different levels.

【2】What might a computer fail to do?

    A.Generalize new experiences.

    B.Scan the unfamiliar environment.

    C.Help vehicles achieve balance.

    D.React to situations from memory.

【3】What does Paragraph 4 mainly focus on?

    A.Artificial brains.

    B.Fisheye cameras in cars.

    C.Applications of Al.

    D.The power of Radar.

【4】What does Bos want to convey in the last paragraph?

A.Bad weather discourages applications of Al.

B.AI has great potential to improve self-driving.

C.AI can help chefs to make wonderful meals.

D.Bad weather poses a challenge to sensor detection.

  • 23、   It's a lesson that most of us learn years before were old enough to drive: Red means stop, green means go. Simple enough. But what happens when you live in a culture where green also means blue?

Drive around Japan long enough and you'll find “go” signals in different kinds of blue. “Is this signal broken?” you might ponder. “Did some careless workers install the wrong bulbs?” The answer, as Atlas Obscura points out, is not in the wiring, but in the Japanese language.

Hundreds of years ago, the Japanese language included words for only four basic colours: black, white, red, and blue. If you wanted to describe something green, you'd use the word for blue-ao. That system worked well until the word midori began showing up to describe green. Even then, midori was considered a shade of ao. This sudden switch-over had lasting effects in Japan.

Today you'll still see green things doubtfully labelled blue. A fruit seller might sell you an ao-ringo (blue apple) only to disappoint you that it's actually green. Likewise, green bamboos are called aodake (“blue bamboos”) and an inexperienced employee may be called aonisai, meaning a “blue two-year-old”. And that brings us to traffic lights.

Initially, Japan's traffic lights were green as green can be. Despite this, the country's official traffic documents still referred to them as ao. International traffic law commands all “go” signals must be represented by green lights, and Japanese linguists objected to their government's decision to continue using the word ao to describe what was clearly midori. The government decided to compromise. In 1973, the government passed through an order that traffic lights use the bluest shade of green possible-still technically green, but noticeably blue enough to justifiably continue using ao nomenclature (命名法).

So, while it may appear that Japan uses blue traffic lights, the government assures us it's actually just a very blue shade of green-green enough to satisfy international regulations blue enough to still be called ao. Don't ever say the government never solved anything.

【1】What does the underlined word “ponder” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Remark.

    B.Wonder.

    C.Explore.

    D.Hesitate.

【2】Why did people use ao to describe green things in Japan?

A.The public preferred blue to green.

B.Green must be used with caution in Japan.

C.The word ao developed later than the word midori.

D.There were limited words to describe colours in Japan's history.

【3】What can we infer from Paragraph 5?

A.The colour of “go” lights is a mix of blue and green in Japan.

B.Japan's traffic lights still disobey the international traffic law.

C.Japanese linguists opposed changing the color of traffic lights.

D.Japan's traffic lights were first addressed as green in official papers.

【4】What can be the best title for the text?

    A.Traditional colours in Japan

    B.Interesting driving rules in japan

C.Why Japan has blue traffic lights

D.Why green can cheat people in Japan

  • 24、   Mistake is an act or judgement that is misguided or wrong. As long as we exist, we make mistakes consciously or unconsciously. Some mistakes are made because of the lack of knowledge or experience. 【1】 We name it as a habit or laziness.

    Mistakes do not mean Failure.

It is not always a mistake if you fail at something. Sometimes failure happens when we do things for the first time to get out of our comfort zone. This is how we learn. It is important to make such experiments to move forward in life. When we try something new and fail, we face a lot of criticism. 【2】 But never be discouraged from these mistakes in life. Never quit. The important is to learn from the mistakes so that you can do it better next time.

    Do you learn from mistakes?

【3】 This is the reason we keep repeating them. Each mistake offers a lesson if we are ready to grab it. Check yourself. List the things that you want to do differently but repeat them every day. It could be something related to your relationship. It hurts when you fight with your loved ones. You know that you have your own share of mistake. Then you decide to take care next time. However, it happens again next day.

What did you learn from yesterday? You cannot always blame the other one. What have you learned? Do not give me excuse of habit. 【4】 See mistakes as a part of life. See them as an event from which you can always learn something. 【5】 How beautiful our life will be if we stop regretting the past mistakes and lay them down to serve as a path for a better future!

A.We can not change what has happened

B.They just exist to make us strong with time.

C.It creates fear inside us and stops us taking next steps.

D.It is easy to make mistakes but hard to learn from them.

E.However, there are some mistakes we repeat every day knowingly.

F.You can always break a habit by a little practice every day if you really want to.

G.It is important to realize that we do not just learn by making mistakes but correcting those mistakes.
