21、These days, it's not unusual to see middle-aged men collecting Star Wars action figures, office workers wearing Hello Kitty accessories, or celebrities like David Beckham playing with Lego bricks. It's becoming more and more common to see adults taking an interest in toys, comic books and the activities that are traditionally associated with children. This phenomenon has given rise to a new word: kidult.
What lies behind the phenomenon? One is about adults' nostalgia (怀旧之情)for the carefree days of childhood, and this is especially true with today's fast-paced, stressful lifestyles. Another is about a societal change in recent decades where people are starting families later. As a result, they have more time and money to spend on themselves. Some adults could only window-shop for their dream toys when they were kids, but now they can afford that radio controlled car or high-priced doll they have always wanted.
Businesses have been quick to exploit the kidult trend, and the number of toy stores that target adults has risen. Companies are repackaging products from past decades and also bringing out new ones for adults. Lego, for example, has brought out an architectural series featuring landmarks from around the world.
Society traditionally disapproves of adults who refuse to put aside childhood interests, viewing the refusal as a sign of social immaturity and irresponsibility. Those who agree with this view sometimes claim that kidults are suffering from the pop-psychology concept known as Peter Pan Syndrome, an anomaly (异常)that people remain emotionally at the level of teenagers. On a grander scale, these kidult opponents (对手)argue that such delayed adulthood causes couples to marry later and have fewer children. This in turn can lead to shrinking national economies, for there needs to be a generational replenishment (补充)of the workforce.
From the standpoint of kidults, though, this phenomenon is seen as nothing but harmless fun. Kidults insist that having youthful interests keeps them young, happy and creative, and their refusal to conform to society's acceptable tastes shows independent thinking. Besides, they argue that being part of the social trend of delayed adulthood is not purely a personal choice. The real causes include expensive housing, increased educational requirements for employment and poor work opportunities.
Whether the kidult phenomenon will continue to grow or prove to be a passing trend is anyone's guess. As the debate about it continues, remember that there is nothing wrong with being young at heart.

A.Get used to.
B.Look forward to.

A.By strongly opposing kidult opponents.
B.By convincing readers to accept kidults.

【5】What can we infer about the author's attitude towards the phenomenon from the last paragraph?
A.Doubtful.
B.Positive.

22、Worrying new figures from a national survey conducted by Kingswim have revealed 51 percent of Australian adults can’t swim 50 metres or more without stopping. However, the news is better for our kids, with statistics showing that childhood swimming lessons are paying off.
“These statistics are reflected in the Royal Life Saving 2018 Drowning Report, with 32 percent of drowning deaths occurring in the 55+ age range compared to 19 percent for under 25s,” says Kingswim Marketing Manager. Rowena Thomasson.“While these are terrible statistics it’s not all sad news; the survey revealed younger demographics(群体) had a much higher swimming ability, which correlated with the swimming lessons they received as children.”
Kidsafe Victoria CEO Melanie Courtney says that swimming lessons are a critical part of comprehensive home pool safety defence. “Children can drown quickly and silently in just a few centimeters of water. Swimming lessons, together with active adult supervision—both in and around water—first aid knowledge and a well-maintained pool barrier are critical elements in keeping your family safe over the coming summer season.”
Mum of three, Jenny Ong says she knows all too well the anxiety caused by not being able to swim as an adult. “Neither my partner or I am confident in the water so teaching our girls to swim was always going to be difficult for us,” she says. “I won’t swim anywhere, I can’t touch the bottom and I don’t want my children to feel the same uneasiness in the water. My eldest two now both take regular lessons which they absolutely love and I’m relieved to know they’re mastering a lifesaving skill.”
The research proved that children with professional swimming lessons to subsidise any lessons at home were much more confident in their ability to swim as an adult. “Close to half of people aged between 18 and 24 say they had swimming lessons through three or more channels, with 84 percent believing they received adequate swimming lessons as a child — demonstrating how crucial it is for children to receive professional swimming lessons in addition to anything taught at home,” says Thomasson.
【1】What can be learned from Paragraph 2?
A.Childhood swimming lessons work.
B.Drowning happens frequently.
C.The Drowning Report is disappointing.
D.More children get drowned than adults.
【2】According to Melanie, how many factors are there to ensure home pool safety defence?
A.Two.
B.Three.
C.Four.
D.Five.
【3】What’s Jenny Ong’s attitude towards her kids’ lessons?
A.Anxious.
B.Favorable.
C.Neutral.
D.Contradictory.
【4】Which of the following can replace the underlined part “to subsidise” in the last paragraph?
A.To replace.
B.Added to.
C.To make up.
D.Giving way to.
23、 American Mark Levine wears many hats in China-educator, author, volunteer, musician, sociologist, cross-cultural communicator, winner of the Chinese government's Friendship Award, and most noticeably, wide-brimmed.
The bushy-bearded 73-year-old is perhaps best known among the Chinese public for writing American country music-style songs about China that he performs in full cowboy regalia. He often sings and plays his guitar to the accompaniment of the erhu played by his friend, Fu Han, in their musical duo, In Side Out. Levine has staged hundreds of performances in 15 provinces, and one had an audience over 50,000, he says.
Fu Han recalls he once performed in a well-known bar in Beijing's Houhai area, and she joined him on stage with her erhu. “A group of tourists from northern Europe came up and watched and filmed us, and started singing with us. I realized a Chinese instrument and face can help better tell China's stories to foreigners. So, they officially became band mates. I'm the 'in' and he's the 'out' in In Side Out,”she explains.
Levine plans to release a song book when he reaches 100 songs. He has so far written over 70 tunes that he calls "musical stories from my Chinese journey,, since he settled in Beijing in 2007 to take an occupation at Minzu University of China, where he still works, largely on account of its ethnic diversity.
Levine says two highlights during his time in the country have been winning the Friendship Award in 2014 and receiving his Chinese “green card” in 2016. Levine hopes it increases cross-cultural understanding. One of his friends says Levine is particularly apt for the task. “Mark is a perfect ambassador for humanity, so to speak, who has found his ideal place here,” he says.
【1】What can we learn from Levine's musical achievement?
A.He has released a book about his songs.
B.He has performed his songs all over China.

【2】Why did he determine to work at Minzu University of China?
A.He desired to settle in Beijing.
B.He could win the Friendship Award.
C.He could be exposed to diverse cultures.
D.He could find more musical stories there.
【3】What's the meaning of the underlined word “apt” in the last paragraph?
A.Intelligent.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
It was a warm weekday evening in May last year when my friend Alice and I were on a long walk around the university campus. We had met on a university trip in 2019, when I was in my final year and Alice was a master’s student. We loved each other at once because we both love books and talking loud about how odd the world is.
I had brought a book of mini plays that we were performing to each other as we walked, just for fun. At one point, as part of the merrymaking, Alice set off a quick run and I took it as an invitation to race. We were on a long pavement when I stuck my foot out to trip her—I just wanted her to have a tumble (跌倒) so we could laugh about it. She fell instantly and I kept on running; it was all part of the joke. But then I heard her screaming. I turned around and she was on the ground, holding her right leg. I thought for a second she must be kidding, for there was no way she could have hurt herself that badly. But her face was out of shape in pain and she was making this crying sound.
A man who was walking by had seen what had happened. He called an ambulance as soon as he saw Alice. Within 10 minutes it arrived. The medical staff had to pick her up and carried her into the ambulance.
I went back to Alice’s house to tell her sister, who she lives with, what had happened. We drove to the hospital, even though we knew they couldn’t let us in because of COVID-19. Tests revealed that Alice’s leg had shattered (粉碎) in eight places. She would remain in hospital for weeks and would probably be restricted to her bed at home with a full-length cast for months after that. Because of COVID-19, we still couldn’t visit her. Alice treated the situation with levity (轻率), telling me not to worry because accidents happen.
Paragraph 1:
She spent three weeks in hospital.

Paragraph 2:
So I wrote her a story, a kind of long-form apology, with Alice as the main character.
