21、 There was a time in the past when, if you had surplus(多余的)food in your fridge, you may have knocked on a neighbor's door to see if they wanted it. Now, unfortunately, giving away food may cause embarrassment, so uneaten food often ends up being thrown in the trash.
Olio hopes to change that. This smart food-sharing app allows people with extra food to post a picture online and anyone who wants it can respond and pick it up, usually within minutes or hours of it being posted. No money is exchanged. It's straightforward gift of surplus food to someone who can prevent it from going to waste. You might even make a new friend in the process!
The app was created in 2015 by two businesswomen, Tessa Clarke and Saasha Celestial-One , in England. Since then it has grown rapidly with nearly 3.5 million people using it in 50 countries. The app saw even more people join in throughout 2020, when food insecurity increased due to the pandemic(疫情).
Clarke told the Guardian that, in the United Kingdom, about a third of all food is thrown away - half of it in people's homes.“Each family throws away an average of 730 of food each year,” she said. Olio managed to fix this in a simple way. “The app connects people with others who have surplus food but don't have anyone to give it to because so many people are disconnected from their communities.”
It's a great idea that will hopefully continue to expand around the world as people realize the benefits of sharing food, rather than throwing it away.
【1】What is Olio intended to do?
A.Exchange money.
B.Stop wasting food.
C.Entertain people.
D.Protect the environment.
【2】Why did many more people start to use Olio in 2020?
A.People were much busier than before.
B.People got much closer to their neighbors.

D.Olio was improved and became easier to use.
【3】What can be inferred about Olio's future?
A.It will be thrown away.
B.It will be more popular.
C.It will be more expensive.
D.It will be replaced by other apps.
【4】What is the best title of the passage?
A.Order Food through the Internet
B.Never Waste Food in Your Fridge
C.Create Peaceful Communities to Do Charity
D.Share Surplus Food Using the Olio App
22、Eyes are said to be the window to the soul — but researchers at Google see them as indicators of a person’s health. A study suggests that Google’s computers can predict whether someone is at risk of a heart attack by analyzing a photograph of their retina (视网膜).
The research relied on a convolutional neural network, a type of deep-learning algorithm (算法) that is transforming how biologists analyse images. Google’s approach is part of a wave of new deep-learning applications that are making image processing easier and could even identify overlooked biological phenomena.
The approach took off in the tech sector around 2012, but scientists struggled to apply the networks to biology, in part because of cultural differences between fields. “Take a group of smart biologists and put them in a room of smart computer scientists and they will talk two different languages to each other, and have different mindsets,” says Daphne Koller, chief computing officer at Calico.
However, through years of study, some scientists have seen a shift that has never happened before in how well machine learning can accomplish biological tasks that have to do with imaging. Others are most excited by the idea that analysing images with convolutional neural networks could unknowingly reveal unnoticeable biological phenomena, encouraging biologists to ask questions they might not have considered before.
Such discoveries could help to advance disease research. If deep learning can reveal markers of cancer in an individual cell, it could help to bring about new assumptions about how cancer spreads.
Other machine-learning experts in biology have set their sights on new frontiers, now that convolutional neural networks are taking flight for image processing. “Imaging is important, but so is chemistry and molecular (分子) data,” says Alex Wolf, a computational biologist. Wolf hopes to improve neural networks so that they can analyse gene expression. “I think there will be a very big breakthrough in the next few years,” he says.

A.many biological questions get answered
B.it drives biologists to explore the field widely
C.image analysis can go on without being noticed
D.many deep-learning applications have been improved
【4】What is implied in the last paragraph?
A.Neural networks are promising.
B.It is convenient to process images.
C.It is necessary to work on new frontiers.

24、When a dirty and untidy orange cat showed up in the prison yard,I was one of the first to go out there and pet it.I hadn’t touched a cat or a dog in over 20 years.I spent at least 20 minutes, knelt down behind the kitchen as the cat rolled around, relaxed. What he was expressing outwardly, I was feeling inwardly. It was an amazing bit of grace to feel him under my hand and note that I was reaching a life or another creature with something as simple as my care.
Over the next few days, there were other prisoners responding to the cat.Every yard period,a group of prisoners gathered there. They stood around talking and taking turns petting the cat. These were guys you wouldn’t usually find talking to each other.Several times I saw an officer in the group, not chasing people away, but just watching and seeming to enjoy along with the prisoners.Bowls of milk and water appeared along with bread, wisely placed under the edge of the dustbin to keep the birds from getting it.
The cat was obviously homeless and in pretty bad shape.People said that the cat came to the right place. He's getting treated like a king. This was true.but as 1 watched 1 was also thinking about what the cat was doing for us.There was a lot of talk about what's wrong with prisons in America. We need more programs. We need more psychologists or treatment of various kinds. Some may even talk about making prisons more kind. But I think what we really need is a chance to practise our own kindness. Not receive it,but give it.After more than two decades here,I know kindness is not a value that's encouraged. It's often seen as a weakness.
Instead, the culture encourages keeping your head down, minding your own business, and never letting yourself be weak.
The cat did my heart good to see the effect he had on me and the men here.By simply saying,”I need some help here”,he did something important for us.He needed us.And we needed to be needed.I believe we all do.

26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.
注意:
