六、阅读理解 (共3题,共 15分)
  • 21、When I got to school today, everybody was acting all strange around me, and at first I didn’t know what was up. Then I remembered: I still had the Cheese Touch from last year. I got the Cheese Touch in the last week of school, and over the summer I forgot about it.

The problem with the Cheese Touch is that you’ve got it until you can pass (传递) it on to someone else. But nobody would even like to get close to me and talk to me. Every time they saw me, they screamed “Ah~ Greg Heffley is coming!” I knew the Cheese Touch would stick with me for the whole school year. Luckily, a new kid named Jeremy Pindle was in the classroom, so I passed the Cheese Touch to him.

My first class was Maths, and the teacher put me right next to Alex Aruda, the cleverest kid in the whole class. If the kids’ last names start with the first few letters (字母) of the alphabet (字母表), the teacher will call them most, and that’s why they end up being the cleverest. Some people think that’s not true, but I can prove it. You see the picture on the left? Alex Aruda is a top student, while Christoper Ziegel is different.

I can only think of one kid. He broke the last-name rule, and that’s Peter Uteger. Peter was the cleverest kid in the class all the way up until the fifth grade.

When we kept saying his initials (首字母) out loud, it sounded funny. This gave Peter a difficult time.

These days, Peter doesn’t put up his hand at all, and he’s pretty much a C student. I feel a little bad about the whole P.U. thing and what happened to Peter.

【1】If someone gets the Cheese Touch, _____________.

    A.he is dangerous to others

B.others may keep away from him

C.he should pass it on to someone else

D.it will stick with him for the whole school year

【2】What does the word “prove” mean in Paragraph 3?

    A.证明

    B.质疑

    C.修改

    D.撤回

【3】What did Peter Uteger think of those kids when they kept saying “P.U.!” out loud?

    A.Active but strange.

    B.Noisy and impolite.

    C.Humorous but impolite.

    D.Crazy and impatient.

【4】What can you infer (推断) from the passage?

A.Peter Uteger broke the class rule in the fifth grade.

B.The kids in the class don’t play with Jeremy Pindle now.

C.Christoper Ziegel is among the cleverest kids in the class.

D.Jeremy Pindle got the Cheese Touch in the last week of school.

  • 23、For his eleventh birthday, Lin’s father gave him a gift. It would make his life meaningful. On that day, his father took him to the Children’s Activity Centre and said he could choose any course (课程) that interested him but had to follow his choice. Lin would have to promise to study it for at least one year.

Lin once had many hobbies, but none kept his interest for more than a week or two. His mum once gave him a bag of stamps to encourage stamp collecting. That hobby lasted for a week. Then his father got him some paints, hoping that Lin’s artistic side would shine through. Those paints were now under his bed, still unopened. This time Lin’s parents would let him decide.

Lin’s eyes moved down the noticeboard to choose the course. He stopped at “Photography”. He liked the idea of taking beautiful pictures, but the notice said each student needed their own camera. Although Lin’s family weren’t poor, they weren’t rich either, and a camera cost a lot of money. He continued looking.

The next course to catch his eye was “Language Art”. He didn’t even know what that meant. His father explained that it taught people how to make public speeches. Lin, a shy boy, could think of nothing worse.

Then he saw it. “Cooking” sounded like something he’d like to do. It was inexpensive and convenient; it could be done alone and it was also creative.

For Lin’s hobby history, his dad did not believe him, but he agreed. Much to his parents’ surprise, Lin kept his promise. He studied cooking at the Centre every Saturday, and practised at home, making delicious meals for his family. Everyone looked forward to birthdays, when they could eat his cakes. Lin got great satisfaction (满足感) from the pleasure his food brought to others.

The months turned to years, but his hobby never changed again.

Now Lin is an adult and runs a successful restaurant. When customers say they enjoy his meal, he still gets the same pleasure he did as a child, and remembers the special gift he received all those years ago.

【1】Why didn’t Lin choose to study photography?

    A.It was too expensive.

B.He had no interest in it.

    C.He was not very creative.

    D.He was not artistic enough.

【2】The underlined expression “catch his eye” in Paragraph 4 means “________”.

    A.make him excited

    B.make him surprised

    C.make him interested in

    D.help him see clearly

【3】Which of the following best describes Lin’s interest in cooking?

A.It only lasted for a short time.

    B.It could bring him pleasure.

C.His parents ask him to do it.

D.It developed slowly over many months.

【4】Why didn’t the father believe Lin’s choice of cooking?

    A.Lin wasn’t good at cooking.

    B.Cooking wasn’t very convenient.

C.He didn’t think Lin would continue.

    D.Cooking wasn’t a good hobby for a boy.

【5】What’s the best title for the passage?

    B.A Happy Boy

七、短文填空 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 24、阅读短文,在空白处填入一个适当的单词或用括号内所给词的正确形式填空,使短文通顺、连贯。

Do you often forget where your socks are when you wake up in the morning? Can you remember what you 【1】 (eat) for lunch a week ago? You may think that it 【2】 (be) not a good thing to forget. But now you should be thankful.

Scientists found that forgetting is 【3】 important part of learning. Getting rid of (除掉) unnecessary information can help our brains (大脑) work 【4】 (well) than before.

What kind of information is unnecessary? The environment is important. When our environment is always changing, our brains may want us to remember fewer 【5】 (thing). For example, a supermarket cashier (收银员) meets many people every day and probably will only remember 【6】 (they) for a short time.

Our brains keep making new neurons (神经元). There is a special place 【7】 our brains called the hippocampus (海马体). It is important for us 【8】 (learn) and remember. When new neurons go into the hippocampus, they get rid of old things in our brains. So we forget so much information about the time when we were very young.

【9】, it is not always good if you keep forgetting things. When you don’t have enough sleep, you 【10】 (usual) have a hard time remembering new information. Sleep helps the brain store and keep new information. So keeping enough sleep is very important.
