四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、A situation in which a student is troubled by his parents asking him to go into a job area that makes good money but he doesn’t want to go into, is a bad situation. The question is whether he should go into this job or not.

To start with, you need to go for what is best for YOU, even if there would be some negative(消极的)results. You can’t be happy if you dont make decisions that are right for you. If you do not make your own decisions and make decisions that will be good for you, your life would be a big lie to yourself, which is not a sign that you have done something you wanted to do.

Living a lie would not be a very good life. The truth is much better than living a lie. If your whole life is a lie, then it is not a very beautiful life at all. In the song Lyin’ Eyes, the woman is living a lie by pretending(假装)she loves the old man, while in reality she was just in it for money. As a result, her life is miserable(悲惨的) and a big lie.

And finally, money cannot buy happiness. A good example of this is also from the song Lyin’ Eyes. The only reason why the woman married the old man was for the money and gifts she would receive. This results in her life are not happy at all. This just goes to show that no matter how much money you have, your life still might not be happy. It takes a lot more than a bunch of green paper to make your life a good one.

In conclusion, doing what you want is best. If you don’t do what you want to, you won’t be happy with your life.

【1】What is the passage mainly about?

    A. Parents should not ask their children to live a lie.

    B. There is something more important than money in life.

    C. Young people should make their own career decisions.

    D. Young people are happy to make their own decisions.

2The underlined part a bunch of green paper in Paragraph 4 refers to(指) _______.

    A. gifts   B. dreams

    C. imagination   D. money

3Which of the following arguments is NOT used to support the writer’s conclusion?

    A. It’s best to do what you want.

    B. You need to make your own decisions.

    C. Money doesn’t mean happiness.

    D. Living a lie would not be good.

  • 25、The word "day" has two meanings. When we talk about the number of days in a year, we are using "day' to mean 24 hours. But when we talk about day and night, we are using "day" to mean the time between sunrise and sunset. Since the earth looks like a ball, the sun can shine on only half of it at a time. Always one half of the earth is having day and the other half night. A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the spinning (旋转) of the earth. At the equator (赤道) day and night are sometimes of the same length. They are each twelve hours long. The sun rises at 6 in the morning and sets at 6 in the evening. For six months the North Pole is tilted (倾斜) toward the sun. In those months the Northern Hemisphere (半球) gets more hours of sunlight than the Southern Hemisphere. Days are longer than nights. South of the equator nights are longer than days. For the other six months the North Pole is tilted away from the sun. Then the Southern Hemisphere gets more sunlight. Days are longer than nights. North of the equator nights are longer than days. Winter is the season of long nights. Summer is the season of long days.

1When the Western Hemisphere is having day, the Eastern Hemisphere is having_________

    A. both day and night   B. day   C. either day or night   D. night

2A place is moved from day into night and from night into day over and over by the

3At the equator day is   as long as night.

4When the North Pole is tilted toward the sun, the Northern Hemisphere gets

      sunlight.

    A. less   B. more   C. all   D. no

5When it is winter in China,______________ .

    A. the USA is tilted toward the sun

    B. the South Pole is tilted away from the sun

    C. the North Pole is tilted toward the sun

    D. the North Pole is tilted away from the sun

  • 26、The natural world is colorful with humans, plants and animals showing different colors.

Human skin can be many different colors and it changes with the sun, our feelings or our health for example. This is because of pigments(色素), which reflect light and make what the eye sees as colors. So, when we feel excited or angry, our heart can send more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red.

Plants also have pigments. Colors are important for them to live on. The bright colors of flowers catch the attention of insects, which then carry their pollen(花粉) from one flower to another. Bees can see colors we cannot, and they follow these to the inside of the flower. Without bees visiting flowers in this way, many plants would die out.

Animals also use colors for their own need. They protect themselves with different colors in order not to be seen by predators. The snowshoe hare, for example, a type of wild rabbit, changes colors with seasons for this reason. During summer it is a brown color, and in winter it is white so that it can hide in the snow. However, some animals use the color as a warning to make predators stay away. Bright colors such as yellow and red are often used in this way.

So, we can see that there may be many different reasons and uses for colors in the natural world. Some uses of colors in nature remain unknown, but one thing is for sure, colors not only make our planet beautiful but they are also necessary for our planet to live on.
