二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、“Long time no see” is a very interesting sentence. When I first read this sentence from an American friend’s email, I laughed. I thought it was a perfect example of Chinglish.

Obviously, it is a word-by-word literal translation of the Chinese greetings with a ruled English grammar and structure! Later on, my friend told me that it is a standard American greeting. I was too thrilled to believe her. Her words could not convince me at all. So I did a research on google.com. To my surprise, there are over 60 thousand web pages containing “Long time no see.” This sentence has been widely used in emails, letters, newspapers, movies, books, or any other possible places. Though it is sort of informal, it is part of the language that Americans use daily. Ironically, if you type this phrase in Microsoft Word, the software will tell you that the grammar needs to be corrected.

Nobody knows the origin of this Chinglish sentence. Some people believe that it came from Charlie Chan’s movies. In the 1930s, Hollywood moviemakers successfully created a world wide famous Chinese detective named “Charlie Chan” on wide screens. Detective Chan likes to teach Americans some Chinese wisdom by quoting Confucius. “Long time no see” was his trademark. Soon after Charlie Chan, “Long time no see” became a popular phrase in the real world with thanks to the popularity of these movies.

Some scholars refer to America as a huge pot of stew. All kinds of culture are mixed in the stew together, and they change the color and taste of each other. American Chinese, though a minority ethnic(少数民族的成员) group in the United States, is also contributing some changes to the stew! Language is usually the first thing to be influenced in the mixed stew.

You can have some other examples besides adoptions from Chinese, such as pizza from Italian, sushi from Japanese, and déjà vu from French etc. There is a long list! Americans do not just simply borrow something from others. They will modify it and make it their own, so you would not be surprised to find a tofu and peanut butter hamburger in a restaurant, or to buy a bottle of iced Chinese green tea with honey in a grocery store. Since Americans appreciate Chinese culture more and more nowadays, I believe more Chinese words will become American English in the future. In this way the American stew keeps adding richness and flavor.

【1】The writer himself felt surprised at ______.

A.the Chinglish expression “Long time no see”

B.“Long time no see” used as standard American English

C.so many literal translation of the expressions used in America

【2】The word “stew” in the 4th paragraph probably means ______.

    A.mixture literature

    B.Confucius’ words

    C.a kind of cooked dish

    D.American changing cultures

【3】According to the passage, it can be inferred that ______.

A.detectives translate the phrase “Long time no see”

B.Hollywood made “Long time no see” popular

C.the huge pot of stew greatly affects all kinds of languages

D.cultures can be changed in the huge pot of stew

【4】The main idea of the passage is that ______.

A.some Chinese expressions are introduced into English

B.you’ll not be surprised at a tofu in a restaurant in America

C.some American expressions can be used in China

D.American English keep being enriched from different cultures

【5】According to the passage, which of the following statements is not true?

A.Informal language sometimes doesn’t go with grammar and structure.

B.Languages are always ruled by grammar and structure.

C.Long time no see” has been used in at least four media mentioned in the passage.

D.There are four languages mentioned to be adopted in the American stew.

  • 27、Ever since Zion Williamson was 5 years old, he wanted to be a basketball star. But to get there, he needed a lot of encouragement and coaching along the way, and there was no one that better than his mother, Sharonda Sampson. She coached Zion in every youth basketball league he ever played. Sampson was a collegiate track star and later became a middle school health and physical education teacher.

He has got up at 5:30 a.m. to head to the outdoor court and play basketball since he was 9 years old. Zion's hard work began to pay off when he entered high school, where he became a YouTube hit for his high-flying dunks (灌篮)and powerful moves. But Sampson wanted her son to not only work hard at being great but study how the legends of the game went about their skills.

“When I started playing, my mom said there were three players she wanted me to watch — Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan,” Williamson said. “Even though I wasn't alive when he (Jordan) was doing those things, it just attracted me. Everything he did was just incredible.”

The national spotlight shined on Zion during his one year of collegiate basketball at Duke University, where he was coached by five-time national champion Mike Krzyzewski. The most storied rivalry in the collegiate game is between Duke and North Carolina, where Jordan won a national championship back in the 1980s.

Shortly after his freshman season, Zion declared for the NBA Draft. Sampson was by her son's side when he was chosen by the Pelicans as the top player. “I wouldn't be here without my mom” said Zion with tears streaming down his face after his selection.

Zion was brilliant in the first 19 games of his regular-season NBA career, averaging over 23 points and six rebounds per game, before the coronavirus (冠状病毒)crisis forced the league to shut down. The 19-year-old Zion says he's been staying fit and will be ready to go when the league resumes.

【1】What do we know about Zion from the first two paragraphs?

A.He was trained mainly by his mother.

B.He dreamed of being a basketball star at 9.

C.He was famous for his mother at YouTube.

D.He coached his mother in basketball leagues.

【2】Why did Zion's mother ask him to watch three players?

A.She wanted to make Zion beat them one day.

B.She expected Zion to learn much from them.

C.She required Zion to join their basketball teams.

D.She wished Zion to like the same players as she.

【3】What did Zion mean by “I wouldn't be here without my mom”?

A.He would join the NBA with his mom

B.He would stand beside his mother firmly.

C.His success related to what his mom did.

D.He followed her wherever his mother went.

【4】What is the writer's purpose in writing the text?

A.To encourage people to learn from Zion.

B.To explain why Zion likes playing basketball.

C.To prove Zion has a gift for playing basketball.

D.To introduce an NBA basketball player.

  • 28、   I sat down, with food in my lap, waiting to watch a movie. It sounds like a typical Friday night at home, but this time it was not. I was sitting down in a theatre of over 300 Filipinos speaking their native tongues. We were watching a film named Ulam: Main Dish. It’s directed by a Filipino-American director, and it’s about Filipino / Filipino-American food.

Right before the film began, I was caught in this realization: this is a film created  by my people, for my people and about my people, and shared with an audience much larger than just us. This was the first time I had ever experienced a film of this nature. I could understand its stories and culture. The theatre went dark and before the film rolled, my eyes were already overflowed (洋溢)with pride.

I was watching this film at the Reel Asian Film Festival. At this year’s festival, I joined the Reel Asian team as their Social Media Assistant. This meant that during the festival I could actually get to speak to the filmmakers, actors, producers, etc. Particularly, I had the chance to speak to filmmakers about why a festival like this is important to them.

Through talking with them, I learned that there is something really unique about the Reel Asian Film Festival. It brings good Asian cinema a home in what is known as an incredibly diverse city, allowing these stories to be told to a diverse audience of diverse views.

For anyone looking to find themselves in a film, learn more about other cultures, and enjoy a good movie, I truly believe that Reel Asian is the place to be. As an annual event, it's so well planned and organized, and so much expectation is being built.

1How did the author probably feel while watching the movie?

A.She found the faces in the film strange.

B.She realized making a film was really hard.

C.She became very proud of being an American.

D.She could relate to the cultural information of the movie.

2What did the author’s position at the festival allow her to do?

A.Ask directors for a role. B.Sell her works to producers.

C.Communicate with those making films. D.Form a filming team of her own.

3According to the author, what is a function of the festival mentioned?

A.Introducing Asian films to more people.

B.Introducing other cultures to Asian producers.

C.Helping Asian people know more about foreign movies.

D.Helping Asian restaurants develop new markets.

  • 29、   If you live in a town or city on the edge of a desert or coastline where sand dunes form, you might understand the threat they can have. It’s, sometimes, a piece of cake for them to cover roads, buildings, farms and other man-made developments with their unpredictable movements. Thus, figuring out how they move is important for preventing some natural disasters.

Now scientists have discovered that dunes have been secretly moving in ways we never knew before. There are different explanations on dune interaction, however, Karol Bacik, first author on the new dune study, and his colleagues have found a new one for dune movement. The researchers employed high-speed cameras to observe how dunes separated by distance can act as if they’re connected.

It turns out, currents flowing over sand dunes can carry “information” to other dunes downstream in the form of swirls(旋涡). For instance, as wind or water flows over the top of a dune, it slightly moves. This can generate “swirls” on the back of a downstream dune and push it in a direction opposite the movement of the front dune.

It’s the first time that researchers were able to provide causal explanations for some of these strange, previously unpredictable movements. The team also hopes to get out of the laboratory and into the real world, to see if their models can be applied to dune movements in complex natural systems. They plan to use satellite images over large deserts to track groups of dunes over long periods.

Perhaps they can start to alter the dune marching orders in the near future. Imagine being able to tell a dune field exactly how you want it to move. That’s the idea that this research might one day make possible.

1We can learn that the purpose of the study is to _________.

A.stop the sand dunes from moving around

B.figure out the track of sand dune movements

C.prove the interaction of dunes with each other

D.examine a model of sand dunes in the real world

2What does the underlined word “one” in Para. 2 refer to?

    A.A study. B.An interaction. C.An explanation. D.A dune.

3Which of the following can we know from the passage?

A.A sand dune communicates with another only by currents.

B.Swirls on the back of a dune are the power to move itself.

C.Some strange dune movements have got causally explained before.

D.Researchers think it unnecessary to study further on the dune models.

NASA is on a journey to Mars, with a goal of sending humans to the Red Planet in the 2030s. That journey is already well under way.

For decades, the agency and its partners have sent orbiters, landers and rovers(探测器), 1 increasing our knowledge about the Red Planet and paving the way for future human explorers. The Curiosity rover has gathered radiation data to help us protect future astronauts, and the upcoming Mars 2020 rover will study the 2 of Martian resources, including oxygen.

Building on the robotic legacy(遗产), the human exploration of Mars crosses three thresholds(门槛), each with 3 challenges as humans move farther from Earth: Earth Reliant, the Proving Ground, and Earth Independent.

Earth Reliant explorations is 4 on research aboard the International Space Station. The orbiting microgravity laboratory serves as a world - class test bed for the technologies and communications systems needed for human missions to deep space. Astronauts are learning about what it takes to live and work in space for long periods of time, improving our understanding of how the body changes in space and how to protect astronauts' health.

Next, we move into the Proving Ground, 5 a series of missions near the moon called “cislunar space” to test the capabilities we will need to live and work at Mars. Astronauts on the space station are only hours away from Earth, but the proving ground is days away, a(n) 6 stepping stone to a Mars mission, which will be months away from home.

Also in the 2020s, we’ll send astronauts on a year-long mission into this deep space proving ground, confirming habitation and testing our 7 for Mars.

Finally, we become Earth Independent, building on the knowledge 8 on the space station and in deep space to send humans to low-Mars orbit in the early 2030s.

This phase will also test the entry, descent(降落)and landing techniques needed to get to the Martin surface and study what's needed for in-situ resource utilization or "living off the land". NASA is already studying the 9 "Exploration Zones" on Mars that would offer compelling science research and provide resources our astronauts can use.

There are challenges to 10 Mars, but we know they are solvable. We are well on our way to getting there, landing there, and living there.
