26、 U.S. first lady Michelle Obama and her family have just ended their one-week trip in China. The whole world has paid attention to the two elegant and beautiful first ladies who have made a difference in the relationship between China and the U.S.A.
Mrs. Obama has visited the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, and the pandas. She has tasted Peking Duck and experienced some other Chinese traditional culture. Today, the number of exchange students between China and the U.S. has reached more than 4 million every year. There are more than 11,000 people traveling to and from each side of the Pacific. 27、On a recent day, Katie Baldwin took a break from work to talk about moving from a wealthy neighborhood near New York City to an organic farm on Long Island. "Farming for where I grew up was a very unusual career choice, said the 32~year~old American, "but eve¬rybody belongs to the land in their own way. None of us should feel separate from it.”
Katie was raised in an upper middle class town outside New York, where most people never thought about working on a farm. Today, Katie grows potatoes, wheat and other crops at Quail Hill, a property in Amagansett, New York.
In the United States, organic farming is a growing industry. Women operate some of the best-known organic farms on Long Island. Women make up a little more than 37 percent of all organic farmers nationwide. That information comes from the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Experts predict women's share in farming is likely to continue to grow.
“The new young farmers choose organic farming with their desire to have an influence on society," Katie and several farmers said. She said, "They are choosing it to protect natural resources for future generation, to fight climate change, to feed their community good and healthy food.'
New York has about 1, 000 certified organic farms, making it the third largest in the country, and California and Wisconsin are the first and second, the USDA says. These farms make up nearly four percent of the state's farmland, compared with a national average of around 0. 6 percent.
Although organic farming is growing quickly, it comes with high labor costs and some- times smaller harvests than commercial farming. So it can be a difficult business for new farmers . "When I look now at the starting of the farm. it seems really audacious,” Katie Baldwin said. "But in that environments in 2008, everybody had lost their jobs and there weren't jobs. 28、 At one point in time, IQ was viewed as the decisive factor of success. People with high IQ were assumed to have a life of accomplishment and achievement and researchers debated that intelligence was the product of genes or the environment. However, some critics began to realize that high intelligence was no guarantee for success in life, it was perhaps too narrow a concept to fully include the wide range of human abilities and knowledge.
IQ is still recognized as an important element of success, particularly when it comes to academic achievement. People with high IQ typically do well in school and tend to be healthier in general. But today experts recognize it isn’t the only determination of life success. Instead, it is part of a complex series of influences that includes EQ. The concept of EQ has influenced many areas, including the business world. Many companies now have EQ training and use EQ tests as part of the hiring process.
Research has found that individuals with strong leadership potential also tend to be more emotionally intelligent, suggesting that a high EQ is an important quality for business leaders and managers to have. One insurance company discovered that EQ could play a vital role in sales success.
Emotional abilities can also influence the choices that consumers make when making buying decisions. Nobel-prize winning psychologist Daniel Kahneman has found that people would rather deal with a person they trust and like rather than someone they don’t, even if that means paying more for a product that may be of low quality.
According to one recent study, approximately 50% of kids took part in SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) programs and almost 40% of them showed improved grade-point-averages. These programs were also linked to increased school attendance and reduced disciplinary problems. Some strategies for teaching EQ include offering character education, modeling positive behaviors, encouraging people to think about how others are feeling.
【1】What quality should a business leader have according to the text?
A.Having good appearances.
B.Having a master’s degree.
C.Being emotionally intelligent.
D.Graduating from a famous university.

【3】What can we know from the last paragraph?
A.Most kids have taken part in SEL programs.
B.EQ can be strengthened.
C.Kids with high IQ have better achievement scores.
D.The SEL programs have made most kids perform better.
【4】What is the text mainly about?
A.EQ is as important as IQ.
B.EQ is much more important than IQ.
C.People with high EQ will definitely succeed.
D.IQ is the most important factor of success.
29、 Commercial organizations have not been slow to see the financial rewards of using music in shops, restaurants, banks and there is now a fascinating and significant body of literature on the topic. This has been spearheaded (做先锋) by the British psychologist Adrian North in many studies that have been imaginative and inspiring.
In one study this research group agreed with a supermarket to play either stereotypically (带有成见的) French or German music on alternate days for a fortnight in the part of the shop selling wine They measured the amount and type of wine bought during this period. Yes, it worked! French music led to more sales of French wine and German music led to a preference for German wine.
In another study the research team played different kinds of music while people were tasting wine. They showed, as predicted, that the words people used to describe wine like smooth or bold were a part function of the music that was playing.
In a similar study either classical, pop or no music at all was played in a British restaurant over the course of nearly 3 weeks. Researchers measured time and money spent, the latter being broken: or down between drink and food. The customers spent more time and money (on starters and coffee) when the classical music was playing. The researchers offered three explanations for these potentially important findings: classical music was synergistic (协同的) with all other aspects of the restaurant atmosphere.
Second, the patrons (顾客) simply preferred it, and transferred their good response to increased time and money spent. The third explanation was that classical music promotes an upmarket (高价位市场的) atmosphere in which it is natural to spend more money. Of course all explanations could function at the same time.
【1】What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A.Most people like to drink French wine.
B.More people like to listen to German music.
C.It is allowed to sell French wine for only 8 week.
D.Music can bring economical benefit to the supermarket.
【2】Which music is preferred by people eating at the restaurant?

B.Pop music.
C.French music
D.German music.
【3】Classical music can produce an atmosphere, which makes people ________.
A.feel excited
B.go to sleep
C.dance to the music.
D.spend more money
【4】What can we learn about the explanations for classical music's popularity?
A.The first one is the most important.
B.The second one is more practical.
C.The third one is more reasonable.
D.They are not contradictory (矛盾的) with each other.
【5】What can we conclude according to the passage?
A.Commercial organizations have seen the benefit of using proper music in their workplace.
B.Adrian North is an inspiring psychologist,
C.Music plays an important part in every field.
D.Music can be increasingly popular after the studies,

Driving an electric car 【1】 to the protection of environment, or so the marketing departments of their makers would have you believe. Yet a report which analyzes car emissions presents a rather different picture. A battery-powered car recharged with 【2】 generated by coal-fired power stations, it found, is likely to be more harmful. It could cause more than three times as many deaths from pollution as a 【3】 petrol-driven vehicle.
The study was carried out by the University of Minnesota. The researchers estimated how levels of fine particulate matter (细颗粒物) and ground-level ozone — two important 【4】 of air pollution — would change when a car is powered by different ways.
It was no surprise that electric cars whose batteries were recharged with power from wind, solar or hydro-electric sources came out to be virtually free from harmful 【5】. They were estimated to cause 231 deaths over the course of a year, compared with 878 for petrol cars. Electric cars recharged with power from natural gas-fired stations were also a lot less harmful than petrol-driven ones, with 439 deaths. But if those same electric cars were recharged 【6】 by coal, they would be responsible for over 3,000 deaths.
Biofuels also caused more health problems than petrol. But diesel, which often 【7】 concern about pollution, is slightly cleaner than petrol. This is because the study assumes for all cars that emission-control technologies will be more widely used, especially particulate filters which have a remarkable effect on cleaning diesel 【8】. Diesel cars are also more 【9】 of fuel than petrol-driven ones.
Overall, the study shows that electric cars are cleaner than those traditional vehicles only if the power used to charge then is also clean. That is hardly a surprise, but the 【10】 of the difference is. How green electric cars really are, then, will depend mainly on where they are driven. In France, which obtains more than half of its power from nuclear station, electric cars look like a good bet. In China and some other developing countries, where a large amount of electricity is produced from coal, they may not be so environment- friendly as they are marketed.

Why your Password May Not Be As Safe As It Seems? Does “qaz2ws” strike you as a nice safe password? What about “adgjmptw”? An analysis has found them to be among the passwords that are most 【1】 used, which of course means they are not secure at all.
When ten million passwords were leaked on to the internet, they appeared to 【2】that attempts by internet security experts to make us improve our password strength had been successful, even if, in the specific case of the leaked passwords, they are also completely pointless.
While many of the passwords were still single words, such as “password”,there was also a clear attempt by many to make them harder to【3】. The problem was that people seemed to do so in the same way.
“Users are becoming slightly more 【4】what makes a password strong,” explained WP Engine, an internet company that performed the analysis. “For instance, adding a number or two at the end of a text phrase. That makes it better, right?”
But 【5】no. They found that almost half a million passwords did this and in 20 percent of those all people did was put the number “1” at the end.
Perhaps this is why some companies are now trying to move gradually beyond passwords. Yahoo! is giving users the option to 【6】 their mobile phone with an account, having a single use passwords texted to it each time they want to log on.
Although the serviced is voluntary, Dylan Casey an executive at Yahoo!,said that it was “the first step to【7】passwords”. He said it was a(n)【8】that it was increasingly hard for people to remember all the passwords they had. “I don’t think we, as an industry, have done a good enough job of putting ourselves in the shoes of the people using our products,” he said.
It would certainly be a more sensible strategy than same people’s improving upon “password” by using “password” or,“tran5p053d numb3r5 f0r 133tr3r5”.
“We are, for the most part,predictably【9】when it comes to choosing passwords, despite a decade of warnings from password strength checkers during sign-ups” said WP Engine. “We love taking a(n) 【10】, and so do password crackers.

40、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Imagine living on the edge of a vast desert, which is moving quietly closer to your village every day and covering your fields. The desert is on the move. This is called desertification.
Desertification occurs in regions close to an already existing desert. It generally arises from two related causes. The first is over-use of water in the area. There is not enough water in any case, and if it is not carefully used, disaster can follow. As time goes on, water shortages make farming more and more difficult. In some places, locals can remember local lakes and marshes which were once the homes for all kinds of fish and birds. They have been completely buried by the sand now. Farmers leave the land, and fields are replaced by deserts.
The second cause is misuse or over-use of the land. This means that the wrong crops are planted and need more water than is available. Ploughing large fields and removing bushes and trees means that the wind will blow away the soil. Once the soil is lost, it is hard to replace, and if there is rain, it has nowhere to go, and brings no benefit.
It is not only the farmers and villagers who suffer. Every spring, the skies over some of eastern cities, thousands of kilometers away from the deserts, can be darkened by sandstorms. Dust from deserts can have a great effect on weather systems. While desertification is perhaps being partly caused by global warming, these sandstorms can make global warming worse by adding to what is known as the greenhouse effect.
What can be done to slow down or stop the process of desertification? A great deal of work is already under way. Obviously first steps are to find new water sources. Tree planting can help, by providing barriers between desert and rich field. Some types of grass also hold the soil together, and stop the wind taking it. Without these efforts, it will be harder and harder to stop the world’s deserts in their tracks, and more and more farmers will give up and head for cities. The lesson to be learnt lies beneath the sand.
