二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Facebook is to allow users to clean up their profiles by hiding posts and photographs dating from when they were teenagers or at university in fears it could hinder their future job prospects. It said it had added the feature because “we know things change in people's lives” and that it wished to make it easier for people to “accurately reflect” who they were in the present. It said the public would be able to use the “Manage Activity” tool to search their posts by year or person, and delete or save those posts in bulk.

If users save posts, they will not just be hidden from timelines, as they are with the current "Hide" feature, but from across Facebook as a whole, regardless of where it was posted or who was tagged in it. Such tools could prove useful to those looking to clean up their social media presence ahead of job interviews by making it impossible to find old posts of parties, nights out or fancy dress that could show them in a negative light.

However, the move may cause some concern that Facebook is allowing people to whitewash their history, making it more difficult for people to search through posts for evidence of damaging comments.

Over the past few years, it has become relatively easy to search through old posts, with the company in 2015 introducing a new indexing tool, by which users could search for terms such as “posts about drunk' and bring up lists of someone's historic posts. This has led to revelations over a number of high-profile figures, who have faced criticism over comments they had made on Facebook in the past.

In November, Conservative election candidate Antony Calvert stepped down from campaigning in Wakefield after historic Facebook posts emerged from 2010 and 2011 in which he made racist and sexist remarks. Mr. Calvert, who had once referred to the capital as “Londonistan”, said the entries were more than 10 years old, were not meant to be taken seriously and did not represent his views.

【1】What docs Facebook allow people to do?

    A.Hide negative files.

    B.Whitewash their work.

    C.Delete new features.

    D.Search historic posts.

【2】What's the purpose of Facebook's move?

A.To spread a new indexing tool.

    B.To ensure a bright future.

    C.To respect high-profile figures.

    D.To focus on present conduct.

【3】What does the underlined “hinder” in paragraph 1 mean?

    A.Raise.

    B.Adjust.

    C.Destroy.

    D.Interrupt.

【4】What's the author's attitude towards the move of Facebook?

    A.Uncertain.

    B.Understandable.

    D.Objective.

  • 22、Mr William Shakespeare and the Internet

    Explanation of Contents

This is the fourth edition of these pages. It is hard to believe, but once again they are new and improved. My motive in publishing these pages remains to help and stimulate others in Shakespeare studies, and especially those who might contribute their work to the Internet. The spirit of altruism (利他主义) that originally built the Internet is not quite gone, though, sadly, through the pressure of time and profit has lessened.

A major new addition to the pages is a Shakespeare Timeline, which is an online biography mounted at this site. The problems with searching for Shakespeare resources using the available Search Engines are:

    ---- It is difficult to focus most searches so that you get a manageable number of relevant hits;

---- It is impossible by simply reading an abstract(摘要) to make any distinction between the output of a Junior High School student and that of a professional researcher.

Another change in these pages over previous editions is the “What’s News” page.  If you come away from these pages with the feeling that they are very useful but slightly pedantic (学究的), I will have realized my goal.

    An Apology

I am continually apologizing to the many who have written me requesting revisions of the pages. We are all too busy. I simply have not had the time to dedicate to these pages that I wish. But I love the material and so have, at long last, made some time to update them.

    A Reminder to Young Students

These pages contain the best links I can find to Shakespeare on the Internet. As a reminder, I would say I very much enjoy hearing from people who view and use these pages. If you want to do Shakespeare research using the web, this page is a great starting point, and I keep it as current as I can. The web is in its infancy(初期in bringing good, scholarly content to students. Don’t forget the best, if not quickest, resources are still in your library.

【1】The passage is written to ________.

    A. introduce the fourth edition of these pages

    B. make an apology to readers

    C. show off these pages to readers

    D. let Shakespeare researchers buy these pages

【2】When searching for Shakespeare resources using Search Engines, you ________.

    A. can easily recognize what the abstract means

    B. will waste some time in finding what you want

    C. will often come into the “What’s News” pages

    D. will find something special on your computers

【3】Which of the following can best conclude the last paragraph?

    A. The writer will often read letters from those who use these pages.

    B. The writer of the passage is very selfish.

    C. The web was just created four years ago.

    D. Shakespeare researchers should first of all refer to these pages.

  • 23、Asia is such a vast and diverse continent for anyone dreaming of an escape. Here are some best destinations to visit over the next 12 months.

    Xi’an, China

Xi’an, China is supreme and then there’s the biggie (重要的事物)-the Army of Terracotta Warriors, celebrating 30 years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

Xi’an is vast, but a relaxed way of living and recent openings have boosted an already superb accommodation market. A crop of new bars and cafes are thrown in here. There’s never been a better time to visit.

    South of Tokyo, Japan

Two cities in south of Tokyo are well worth visiting.

Yokohama is just a 20-mixinte train journey from the capital and packs considerable appeal with its bayside location, architecture, beer and tasty cuisine.

Less than an hour from Tokyo, fantastic seaside town Kamakura »s known for its surfing scene, but also offers an attractive selection of relaxed cafes and restaurants.

    Sri Lanka’s Hill Country

Sri Lanka may be “so hot right now”, but Lonely Planet recommends a different experience.

Try getting ahead of (and away from) the pack by taking a scenic train to Sri Lanka’s Hill Country for a wonderfully temperate escape from the nation’s humid coasts.

This island owns a mountainous interior that is every bit as scenic as the coast, blessed by pleasantly cool temperatures that rarely above 21.

    Raja Ampat, Indonesia

“Raja” means “king” and this grand title is apparent. Packed with white-sand beaches, lush jungle and unusual mushroom-shaped small islands. Raja Ampat is a biological hotspot.

Home to some of the richest, most diverse coral reefs on the planet—over 200 diving spots are still in a state of nature—and this, paired with a growing ecotourism (生态旅游) offering, means Raja Ampat will no doubt remain king of the islands.

1What can visitors do in Xi’an?

    A. Shop in a fantastic seaside town.   B. Appreciate diverse heritage.

    C. Enjoy mushroom-shaped small islands.   D. Experience planting crops by themselves.

2Where is a surfer most likely to go?

    A. Yokohama.   B. Raja Ampat.

    C. Kamakura.   D. Sri Lanka’s Hill Country.

3Where is this text probably taken from?

    A. A fiction book.   B. A private letter.

    C. A science report.   D. A travel guidebook.

  • 24、After working seven years in finance in Chile, I started questioning my career choice. In the man-dominated finance world, it was hard for me to climb the ladder. I decided to make a change. So I left my job, wondering what would be my next step. The following year witnessed me taking various classes to find what I was passionate about until the science of making bread appealed to me, which brought me waves of excitement.

In 2017, my husband and I moved to Lansdale, where I got a certificate from a 12-week general baking program. I had intended to open a bakery, but the high rent and the slight chance of gaining money soon discouraged me from taking a risk. When seeing that baking bread was a locally lost art, I figured that teaching baking classes could be my choice. Yet, my accent and my born shyness put me at disadvantage in public speaking. At the critical moment, my husband was the one who told me, “You can do this. ”

In 2018, I rented space in Lansdale and created Vituperio Artisan Breads &. Studio. I started small by offering free classes, not knowing whether I could make it. To deal with my initial nervousness, I approached teaching like I were an actor until I got myself comfortable in the class. In this way I not only tested myself but also learnt about what those attendants were interested in and capable of, thus attracting more people to my baking classes. All the classes were in person until March 2020, when I had to switch to teaching online. People told me it was a blessing and a joy to be able to make tasty bread during the pandemic.

As an immigrant, I took the initial leap of faith down a new path to start a business from scratch, hard as it might be. Looking forward, I’d like to bring more teens into the studio to give them the skills to consider a career in this field.

【1】Why did the author choose to leave her job in finance?

A.She hoped to do what she liked best.

    B.Her professional skills were questioned.

C.She had little chance of getting promoted.

D.Finance failed to bring her any excitement.

【2】What made it possible for the author to start her own baking class?

    A.Her previous experience in finance.

B.The declining house rent in the area.

C.The local people’s desire for baking skills.

D.Her husband’s support at the crucial moment.

【3】How did the author try to get over her early nervousness?

A.Behaving like a performer in class.

B.Pretending to be comfortable in public.

    C.Transferring to teaching baking online.

D.Offering small classes to the attendants.

【4】What did the author think about her experience?

    A.Smooth.

    B.Valuable.

    C.Ordinary.

    D.Regretful.
