26、Do you ever get the feeling that you’re being watched? Well, you might be right.
According to a study published in Nature on June 23, astronomers have found that 1,715 stars have had a direct view of Earth since humans have been here.
The team looked at 331,312 stars within 326 light-years of Earth, with each light-year equaling 9.4 trillion (万亿) kilometers. Out of all those stars, only 1,715 of them could see Earth within last 5,000 years, with an extra 319 stars that will be able to see us in the next 5,000 years.
“When I look up at the sky, it looks a little bit friendlier because it’s like, maybe somebody is waving,” said Lisa Kaltenegger, director of the Carl Sagan Institute at Cornell University, US, and the study’s lead writer.
If a planet circling around one of those 1,715 stars is home to advanced life, they could easily see that there is life here because of the oxygen on earth. If that didn’t give it away, then the radio waves we have sent out into space would also be a sign. In fact, human-made radio waves have already travelled through 75 of the closest stars on Kaltenegger’s list.
Why haven’t we heard from anyone yet, then?
It takes a long time for messages to travel between star system. By the time a message could be received, that advanced civilization (文明) would probably not exist anymore.
Alan Boss, a scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science in the US who wasn’t part of the study, wrote in an email that this long time would limit the chances for different life to exchange “emails and TikTork videos”.
“So we should not expect aliens (外星人) to show up anytime soon,” Boss said.

Stand up when it's your turn to introduce yourself.
This will make you appear more confident. 【2】It may feel awkward to stand up, but your introduction will be over more quickly than you think.

【5】
If you are involved in sports or have pets or like to travel, the end of your introduction is a good place to give this information. 28、Much of our thinking about health is based on wishful thinking. But science provides clear and simple advice for a healthy life. Graham Lawton explores the evidence. Graham proves that you don’t have to be a health and fitness extremist to be reasonably healthy. He has rounded up the latest and strictest health research and changed it into useful advice on all the big health issues: diet, weight loss, exercise, sleep, ageing and so on.
Graham, New Scientist feature writer, is not the common health expert. He sometimes eats fast food. He has a gym membership but rarely uses it. And he takes medicine to keep his blood pressure under control. He neither has a diet plan nor a 6-week program to keep fit and thin.
But he does have a much better weapon: science. In a talk, Graham explains the basic science, tells people some of the secrets of science, teaches people to use the ability of judgement to tell the good from the bad, and helps them to see beyond the headlines. The talk allows people to eat healthily, lose weight, and sort the truth out from science facts.
But he loves outdoor sports. Last year Graham cycled over 1,200 miles and ran the same distance of 15 marathons. He often goes swimming outdoors and walks up eight flights of stairs to his desk instead of taking the lift. He eats his five copies of fruit and vegetables a day, keeps enough water in his body, and doesn’t eat much meat. Despite all the bad habits. his good ones seem to be winning. Graham is 50, but his “biological age” was recently measured as 45.
【1】What can we learn about Graham?
A.He has a very strict diet.
B.He has some bad eating habits.
C.He looks down on common health experts.
D.He always bases health on wishful thinking.
【2】What does Graham’s talk in paragraph 3 cover?
A.Health and science.
B.Words as weapons.
C.Functions of medicine.
D.Ability and confidence.
【3】What does the last paragraph mainly tell us concerning Graham?
A.His indoor sports.
B.His way of thinking.
C.His healthy lifestyle.
D.His copies of health books.

A.The Professional Ways to Do Sports
B.The Secrets of Living a Healthy Life
C.The Unique Path to Scientific Success
D.The Importance of Exercise for Health
29、 Entering high school can be a great challenge. Everyone seems sure about what they’re doing and how they’re doing it. This can make you feel nervous.【1】 Here are some tips that help you have an easier start at high school.
Start by saying hello to the people near you in class. 【2】 You could say, “Hi, I’m Jess. I’m excited about the first day of school, but I’m a little nervous. What about you?”
People like hearing nice things about themselves. It opens the door for conversation. 【3】 The best compliments (赞扬) are specific. For example, rather than saying, “I think you’re smart,” you could say, “It’s amazing how quickly you pick up what Mr. Roberts is saying in math.”
【4】 Every person is unique. You are different from everyone else; every other person is, too. So accept those differences and find other people who will accept those differences, too.
“Fitting in” often means changing yourself to go unnoticed in a group. “Belonging” means the group actively wants you to be there. It feels easier to hide parts of yourself to fit in. However, living in a way that’s not true to yourself will make you feel worse over time. 【5】
A.It also makes both of you feel good.
B.Remember to accept the differences.
C.Always try to be the different one in a group.
D.This can be kind of difficult at the beginning.
E.People can’t get to know you if you never say anything.
F.Being yourself will help you find others who are like you.
G.But the truth is that everyone is a little unsure in high school.
