26、The old saying “A rolling stone gathers no moss(苔藓)” has evolved over the years, coming to mean that one must keep moving in order to stay fresh, particularly when it comes to a career. But, what about those who are always moving around, doing so to only gather moss?
People like Dr. Ma Wenzhang from the Herbarium(标本馆)of Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for example.
Unlike common specimen(标本)administrators who spend most of their time in the herbarium, Ma enjoys fieldwork. Each year, he spends around three months in the field, with each trip averaging seven to fifteen days. His colleagues think he is a “weirdo”. He hikes, climbs, eats wild mushrooms and sleeps with dangerous animals, all just to collect moss samples.
Getting lost in the deep forest is also a common occurrence for Ma, whose main focus is collecting moss. “Ma can bear hardship. He spends a lot of time in the field, especially some places deep in the mountains, to collect samples,” Zhang Li, director of bryophytes professional committee of the Botanical Society of China, says. “He has the sharp eyes to find moss in the forest at a glance.”
Over the past decade, Ma has gone on nearly 70 field trips and collected more than 11, 000 moss samples. “When I see a really good sample, I will be amazed by its shining light,” he says. To observe the moss under a microscope is also where Ma finds the true beauty of his samples. “It’s interesting to see the cell structure of the moss,” Ma says.
A new species of moss from Yunnan Province, which was discovered by Ma, was named after him in 2018—Mawenzhangia thamnobryoides—a great honor for a specimen worker.

29、 As we all know, there are plenty of different parks to visit in the UK. All theme parks in Britain have cafes, restaurants, picnic areas and gift shops, so you'll still have plenty to see and do when you and the kids have been on enough rides. There are usually smaller “funfair“ rides and games as well, so younger children won't get bored. Several theme parks also have other attractions next to them, e. g. water parks often open all year round, unlike the theme parks.
Whenever you are in Britain, there's likely to be a theme park within one or two hours, drive, bus ride or train journey. Several theme parks even have accommodation(膳宿)so you can stay for a day or two if you want to make a trip into a short holiday.
Prices for UK theme parks vary considerably; some have an entrance price which allows you to go on all the rides, while in others you have to pay for every ride individually. It can also make a difference whether you go during peak time or not. For example, tickets always cost more during school holidays and weekends than they do during the weekdays.
Theme parks always get very busy during the summer months, so if you don't like crowds ifs usually a good idea to go earlier or later in the year!
If you're thinking of visiting a UK theme park, it's worth having a look for special offers on tickets. Products such as chocolate bars and cereals sometimes have " buy one get one free" offers on theme park tickets, so keep a look out in shops and supermarkets.

Once upon a time, a delightful dog named Ripple shared a home with her owner, Emily, with whom she had formed an unbreakable bond(关系)from the early days of her puppyhood(幼年). Emily was an elderly woman who lived alone and Ripple was her faithful friend, providing her with love and companionship.
Unfortunately, one day, Emily fell ill and had to be immediately transported to the hospital. Ripple was left alone in the house, waiting anxiously for her owner to come back. As the days went by, Ripple grew more and more worried, wondering where her beloved owner had gone and when she would return.
One rainy evening, Ripple heard a car pull up outside the house. Overjoyed at the prospect of Emily’s return, Ripple ran towards the door, barking excitedly. As soon as the door opened, Ripple’s eyes widened at the sight of Emily, who was visibly weak. Overcome with emotion, Ripple’s tail wagged(摇摆)wildly as she leaped towards Emily, showing her affection.
From that moment forward, Ripple became Emily’s faithful companion, never leaving her side for a moment. She would curl up(卷曲)next to Emily’s bed every night, always watching over her. Ripple would dutifully follow Emily around the house, ensuring that she was safe and comfortable. Emily would often say that Ripple was her guardian angel, appointed to watch over her in her time of need.
As Emily’s health declined, Ripple became even more attentive. She would bring Emily her slippers, help her to the bathroom, and even fetch her medications. Emily’s family and friends would often visit her, but it was Ripple who provided her with the most comfort and love.
Regrettably, Emily eventually passed away, leaving Ripple to face a world without her beloved owner. Ripple was very sad without her owner, frequently lying in Emily’s bed, surrounded by her scent(气味), shedding tears. Ripple’s family members did their utmost to comfort her, but her sense of loss and heartbreak remained evident.
