二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、When we found him, he was a sorry sight. His clothes were torn, his hands bleeding. Before we reached him, we saw him fall. He lay a moment. Then he pulled himself to his feet, walked unsteadily a few yards through the woods and fell again. After we got him out, we went back to find the gun that he had thrown down. His tracks showed that for two days he had circled in the forest, within 200 yards of the road. His senses were so dulled by fear and tiredness that he did not hear the cars going by or see the lights at night. We found him just in time.

This man, like others before him, had simply been frightened when he knew he was lost. What had been a near disaster might have turned out as only a pleasant walk, if he had made a few preparations before he stepped from the highway or off a known path.

Whatever sense of direction that a man may have, it’s still largely a question of observation. A skilled woodsman always keeps an eye on his surroundings. He notes the shape of a mountain, the direction water flows through a swamp (沼泽), and the way a tree leans across a path. With these in mind, he is still likely to turn around many times, but he is seldom lost.

There are exceptions, of course, and once in a while a man does come across some strange problem that puts him into the “lost” situation. A rainstorm may catch him without a compass in his pocket. Darkness may find him in a rough area, where travel is dangerous without a light.

When this happens, the normal first reaction is the fear of being laughed at as a result of his poor knowledge in the woods. He may also be concerned about the inconvenience that he will cause his friends when he doesn’t show up. This false pride may lead him to keep on the move in a false effort to find his way against all difficulties.

The person who thinks ahead is seldom in great danger. He’ll be safe if he observes carefully, thinks ahead, and remains calm.

【1】The writer suggested that if the man had not been found, ________ .

A.he would have been shot by a gun

    B.he would have become confused

C.he would have been attacked by wild animals

D.he would have been in great danger

【2】What is the most important when a person tries to find his way in the woods?

    A.Intelligence.

    B.Observation.

    C.Direction.

    D.Chance.

【3】According to the text, if a person gets lost in the forest, at the very beginning, ________.

A.he will worry about being laughed at

B.he will push himself to find his way out

C.he will feel sorry that he didn’t prepare well enough

D.he will feel it is convenient to ask for help from his friends

【4】The writer tells the story of the lost man as an example of people who ________.

A.go into the woods by themselves

B.keep their head when they are in trouble

C.are frightened when they think they are lost

D.don’t know how to signal for help properly

  • 27、We all realize the damaging pollution created by driving petrol and diesel vehicles. Many of the world’s cities are jammed with traffic, creating harmful gases like carbon dioxide. The solution for a cleaner, greener future could be electric vehicle. But how potimistic should we be?

There was much excitement last year when the UK government announced it would ban the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030. But is that easier said than done? The road to global traffic being totally electric is sill a long way of. Currently, battery life is an issue-a fully charged(充电)battery won’t take you as far as a full tank of petrol. There are also limited charging stations to plug an electric vehicle into.

Of course, technology is always improving. Some of he biggest tech companies, like Google and Tesla, are spending huge amounts of money developing electric cars. And most of the big car manufacturers are no making them too. Colin, a low-carbon vehicle expert, told the media: “The big leap forward will come with reliable batteries, which will appear first in mobile phones and laptops before they pogress to cars. These will charge more quickly and enable cars to travel longer.”

Cost is another issue that may delay people switching to electric power. But some countries offer incentives, such as cutting prices by reducing import taxes, and not charging for road tax and parking. Some also provide exclusive lanes for electric cars to be driven on, beating traditional cars which might be stuck in jams. These kinds of measures have made Norway rank No.1 with more than thirty electric cars per 1,000 ctizans.

But electric motoring doesn’t mean a zero-carbon future. It’s emission-free(零排放)motoring, but the car has to be built, the battery has to be built, and the electricity does come from somewhere. Maybe it’s time to think about making fewer journeys or using public transport.

【1】What is an advantage of electric vehicles?

    A.They are emisson-free.

    B.They are cost-effective.

    C.They are zero-carbon.

    D.They are easy to charge.

【2】What is Collin’s attitude to the future of electric vehicles?

    A.Positive.

    B.Negative.

    C.Objective.

    D.Uninterested.

【3】“What does the udelined word “incentives” in Paragaph 4 probably mean?

    A.Free services.

    B.Traffic adjustments.

    C.Special investments.

    D.Encouraging measures.

【4】Which can be a suitable title for the text?

    A.The Fall of Traditional Cars.

    B.The Future of Electric Cars.

    C.A Cleaner, Greener World.

    D.Emission-free Motoring.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、Directions:Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Science at School and at Work

Concern has been expressed about a relative lack of interest in science as a school subject or future career. This report focuses on the views of students and puts forward suggestions for improving the image of science.

The vast majority of students who choose science subjects feel they have made the right decision. They enjoy conducting experiments in the well-equipped laboratories and appreciate the fact that compared with those in arts subjects, the teaching staff are more highly qualified. In consequence, science students believe they are learning in a more stimulating environment.

Unfortunately, however, some students think twice before choosing sciences, because of their reputation as comparatively difficult subjects that involve memorizing facts and figures. Moreover, there is a widespread belief that high marks are harder to obtain in sciences.

In addition, science has a serious image problem. Many are discouraged by the so- called lack of charm of science as a profession, by film stereotypes of mad professors and computer geeks, and by the suspicion with which the media often treat scientific research, for instance concerning genetically modified food.

Students should be invited to participate in Science Fair projects, scientific work experience programmes and virtual Open Days at university science faculty so that a more positive impression of science can be created. They should also be made aware of the benefits of studying science, such as developing thinking skills, discovering how things work and — one day — finding real solutions to real problems.
