二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、It took me several years to realize that my black skin is beautiful and I have accepted the fact that indeed black is beautiful now. This skin I have been in for so many years determined my self worth.

I had so many factors “against” me in my mind when I was a little girl. I was a tall, thin, dark skinned girl with a gap tooth smile. Growing up, the only role model that I had was my mother, who has beautiful deep brown complexion (肤色). It’s amazing how I could find beauty in my mother’s complexion but not my own. One of the most outstanding memories of my childhood is the words “Oh, she is so cute for a dark skinned little girl.” People spoke as if I wasn’t in the room, as if I couldn’t hear.

From a young age, I felt ashamed that my black color wasn’t good enough, so I buried myself in books to stay away from the mirror. I knew that my education would and could take me further than my looks. I stopped watching TV, absorbed in my studies and I was happy with my decision. Now I have been admitted to my ideal Coppin State University, which is for black students and has a long history.

It wasn’t until I was at age 16 that I officially decided to fix my deep rooted issue about my dark complexion. I had been brainwashed to subscribe to the European standard of beauty for so many years. I no longer accept this standard, because I set my own. My black is beautiful including my full lips, the wideness of my nose, and the intensity (明亮) of my eyes. I believe that there are plenty of beautiful dark skinned women in the world.

【1When the author was young, she _____.

    A. realized the importance of good memory

    B. didn’t mind others saying she was black

    C. accepted the European standard of beauty

    D. didn’t think her mother was very beautiful

【2In childhood how did the author break away from not liking her looks?

    A. She turned her attention to her studies.

    B. She watched TV and read books.

    C. She attended a school for black people.

    D. She broke all her mirrors.

【3】The author writes the text mainly to tell readers _____.

    A. the change of her attitudes toward her complexion

    B. varied standards of beauty in different periods

    C. how her appearance helped her to succeed

    D. why she thinks black skin is beautiful

  • 27、Tips to fit gratitude in your life

Ready to begin? Here are some ways to become a more thankful person.

Every day, say aloud three good things that happened. This can be a fun activity to do around the dinner table together with the whole family, but it’s also extremely powerful to express gratitude aloud when you’re alone.

Keep a gratitude journal. Write down the small things from your day that mattered to you, like the few minutes of quiet time you had on your drive to work, or the fact that this afternoon’s rain storm didn’t flood your basement. 【1】

Thank yourself.   【2】 Make sure you give yourself a thank-you for the healthy habits you’ve cultivated in your own life, such as eating plenty of vegetables or giving yourself enough time for rest each night.

Enjoy the good moments. If you notice you’re feeling happy, stop what you’re doing and pay attention for a few minutes. 【3】 Later, when you’re trying to inspire gratitude, you can remember this moment and experience the benefits all over again.

Check for silver linings. Even the most difficult life challenges come with some benefit- you just have to look to find them. Being sick draws the compassion of friends. 【4】 When things feel hard, ask yourself: What’s good here?

Look outward, not inward. Robert Emmons says people are more likely to feel grateful when they put their focus on others, rather than getting caught up in their own inner narratives about how things should have gone. Empathy (同理心) for others can arouse a sense of gratitude. 【5】

Change your perspective. If you struggle to come up with something to feel grateful for, put yourself in the shoes of someone experiencing misfortunes greater than your own. Recalling a colleague who is in poor health, e. g, will inspire gratitude for your own healthy body, which you may have taken for granted otherwise.

    A.Making a mistake teaches you a lesson.

B.Make it a habit to show empathy for others.

C.And it is wise for people to have an outward focus.

D.When you feel unwell, ask yourself: What makes you being so?

E.Gratitude doesn’t always need to be focused on what other people have done for you!

F.If you’re having a hard day, you can look back through these blessings in your life.

G.Notice exactly how you feel, including the sensations in your body and your thoughts.

  • 28、The Sanxingdui Museum in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province enjoyed huge popularity during the three-day Qingming Festival holidays by receiving nearly 20,000 visitors on the peak day, after the new archaeological(考古的) discoveries brought international attention.

According to media reports, the museum saw over 15,000 visitors on Saturday, the first day of the Qingming Festival holidays, breaking its record for daily visitors. And on the next day, more visitors swarmed into the museum to exceed 19,800. To cope with the large flow of people, on Sunday afternoon, the official Weibo account of the Sanxingdui Museum released a message to remind visitors of avoiding rush hours or rescheduling their visiting time.

The Sanxingdui Museum showcases various kinds of precious cultural relics unearthed at the site, such as the 2.62-meter-tall standing statue, 1.38-meter-wide bronze mask, and 3.95-meter-high bronze tree. Earlier on March 20, Chinese archaeologists announced some new major discoveries made during the 37th excavation (挖掘) since its last excavation 35 years ago. The ruins were first discovered in the late 1920s and first excavated in 1934. More than 500 important cultural relics have been unearthed in the six newly-found pits. Since the new discoveries were known to the public, the number of people visiting the Sanxingdui Museum has increased sharply.

The museum said although it was open as usual, the newly-found pits had not opened to the public yet and the newly-excavated cultural relics were still under restoration and couldn’t meet the public currently. But a hall for cultural relic conservation and restoration would be in pilot operation in April and officially opened on May 18. Visitors to it can see how the relics are restored, according to Zhu Yarong, vice director of the Sanxingdui Museum.

Dating back about 3,000 years, the Sanxingdui Ruins have shed light on the ancient Shu civilization and cultural origins of the Chinese nation, and have been regarded as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the 20th century.

  • 29、When storm clouds gather, and the wind howls in anger, the natural reaction for most people is to seek shelter. But some run toward the danger. Photographer Liu Yijing is one of that rare type as he captures nature’s violence.

For the past year, Liu, 21, has traveled about 24,000 kilometers across 11 provinces chasing and recording thunderstorms. From the first signs—a stronger breeze developing into a turbulent (汹涌的) sky and birds fleeing—he prepares for what appears to be a frightening task. In 2021, he took more than 48,000 photos, showing the most violence of Mother Nature.

Liu has received a great deal of recognition for his work. His photos captured a complete supercell (雷暴) structure that occurred in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Aug 22. This image has been picked as the cover photo for the Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, a key publication in its field.

“It is a typical supercell and I still have a vivid memory about how thrilled I felt the moment it formed. While recording, I couldn’t control myself and kept screaming,” he says, adding that the picture and video have spread rapidly on the Internet. The term supercell is even used by meteorologists (气象学家) to describe a type of a lasting thunderstorm that rotates and is usually accompanied by dangerous weather conditions including damaging winds and sometimes tornadoes.

Many social media users nicknamed him “storm chaser”. A Sina Weibo user named Guanwaidelin comments that Liu’s photos and videos show how amazing and powerful nature is and how insignificant humans are. Another called Lucia Wei says that before Liu, storm-chasing photographers were rarely heard of in China and that it is a career for those who are not only brave but also armed with sufficient meteorological knowledge.

【1】How does Liu Yijing respond to the approaching storm?

    C.He takes photos of it.

    D.He runs away from it.

D.He described the supercell as a great discovery.

“Nine-eighty-four for a urgency call please. You are heading to Maroubra for a child of unknown age, address to follow, over.” Must be a big job, I thought as I moved quickly to the radio. I sat in the front seat of the ambulance and took the microphone. My heart jumped. The possibilities of a young child surviving falling from a height were low at best. Then I gestured to the driver that we would have to head off.

“Take a left here,” my partner Amanda said. “The second street on your left is a lane way.” The driver threw the ambulance around the corner and saw a man waving his hands. He indicated that we should head down the lane way. Then I saw a woman with her arms in the air. There were people along three blocks leading to the address, signaling us in. It had now been nine minutes since we received the call and we travelled about 15 kilometers. It was a miracle(奇迹) that we got here so quickly.

The driver came to a sudden stop beside the crowd. Amanda and I got off the ambulance immediately. I saw a boy lying on the grass beside the footpath. The boy’s face was white and looked dead. A woman standing behind the boy was his mother. I could see the wide-eyed scare on her face. There must be 15 people standing silently around. All eyes were glued to us as we approached.

I saw a young man going down on his knees and performing external cardiac massage(体外心脏按摩) on the boy. Later I learned that the young man was a medical student. “Two, three, four, five,” he counted as he pressed the small chest—but a failed attempt. There was no sign of life. “Let me try,” Amanda said, giving the boy mouth-to-mouth resuscitation(复苏) and heart massage. About two minutes later, there were signs of life and the cardiac monitor showed the heart had electrical activity. I took a big breath in and out.

Para. l: We immediately put the boy in the ambulance.
