26、Four years ago, we asked ourselves: what if we could create a shopping experience with no waiting in lines and no checkout? Or could we create a physical store where customers could simply take what they want and go? Our answer to those questions is Amazon Go, where you could experience the idea of “just walk out shopping”.
Amazon Go is a new kind of store with no checkout required. We created the world’s most advanced shopping technology, so you never have to wait in line. With our “just walk out shopping” experience, simply use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take the products you want, and go! No lines, no checkout.
Our checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion(融合), and deep learning. Our “just walk out technology” automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart. When you’ve done shopping, you can just leave the store. Shortly after, we’ll charge your Amazon account and send you a receipt(收据).
We offer delicious ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack choices made fresh every day by our on-site chefs and favorite local kitchens and bakeries. Our selection of foodstuff ranges from bread and milk to cheeses and locally made chocolates. You’ll find well-known brands we love, plus special finds we’re excited to introduce to customers. For a quick home-cooked dinner, pick up one of our chef-designed Amazon Meal Kits, and you can make a meal for two in about 30 minutes.
Our 1,800-square-foot shopping space is conveniently compact(紧凑的), so busy customers can get in and out fast. It is located at 2131, 7th Ave, Seattle, WA, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Blanchard Street. All you need is an Amazon account, a supported smart phone, and the free Amazon Go app.

27、ATTN (Attention): Customer Service
I am writing to you seeking assistance with a problem I have run into with my Mommy. I received my Mommy in 2019 and was immediately pleased with the model. The first year, she worked great and satisfied my needs. However, over the last year, I’ve noticed some changes in her quality.
For example, she used to jump to rescue me whenever I cried and we'd rest in her room until morning. Now I receive a “Go back to sleep!” yell every time I attempt to enjoy her big bed for just one night. I understand the daily use of the big bed is a free gift in a limited period, but I thought that period was automatically extended until YEAR Three! Did I misunderstand the contract (合同)?
I’ve also noticed an increasing delay in my Mommy’s responses during daylight hours. Previously, a tearful scream would bring an immediate reaction and possible solutions including hugs and various funny faces intended to make me laugh, but now she only sighs and rolls her eyes at me when I throw myself on the floor. Have you found this to be a common problem with continued use?
Another cause for concern is my Mommy’s “translation ability”, which I find is increasingly problematic. She will ask me questions like, “Are you ready to wash your hair?” and I’ll always say, “No,” but somehow I still end up with a face full of shampoo every time. This is very frustrating!
Clearly, I’ve raised serious problems. I would suggest that you expand your research to improve the Mommy. In addition, I would appreciate it if you could remove some of the Mommy's most hurtful phrases like, “Just a minute,” “You need to wait,” and “Don’t eat that.”
I anxiously await any information about the automatic updates that might address the issues in my Mommy in the near future.
Sincerely,
Reese

28、 Mrs. Smith trembled with excitement when she was told her fortunes. “Somebody is coming home to you,” Mrs. Gray said slowly. “He’s carrying a rifle on his back and he’s almost there.”
Mrs. Smith felt as if she could hardly breathe “And there he is!” Mrs. Gray cried, pointing to the road. They all rushed to the door to look.
A man in a blue coat, with a gun on his back, was walking down the road toward the Smith farm. His face was hidden by a large pack on his back.
Laughing and crying, Mrs. Smith grabbed her hat and her children and ran out of Mrs. Gray’s house. She hurried down the road after him, calling his name and pulling her children along with her. But the soldier was too far away for her voice to reach him.
When she got back to their farm, she saw the man standing by the fence. He was looking at the little house and the field of yellow wheat. The sun was almost touching the hills in the west. The cowbells rang softly as the animals moved toward the bar(畜棚).
“How peaceful in all is,” Private Smith thought. “How far away from the battles, the hospitals, the wounded and the dead. My little farm in Wisconsin. How could I have left it for those years of killing and suffering?”
Trembling and weak with emotion, Mrs. Smith hurried up to her husband. Her feet made no sound on the grass, but he turned suddenly to face her. For the rest of his life, he would never forget her face at that moment.
“Emma!” he cried.
The children stood back watching their mother kissing this strange man. He saw them, and kneeling down, he pulled from his pack three huge red apples. In a moment, all three children were in their father’s arms. Together, the family entered the little unpainted farmhouse.
Later that evening, after supper, Smith and his wife went outside. The moon was bright, above the eastern hills. Sweet, peaceful stars fled the sky as the night birds sang softly and tiny insect buzzed in the soft air.
His farm needed work. His children needed clothing. He was no longer young and strong. But he began to plan for next year. With the same courage he had faced the war, Private Smith faced his difficult future.

29、Can robots be creative? British art gallery owner Aidan Meller thinks so. He hopes to begin answering this question with a robot called Ai-Da. Meller is overseeing the building of all her parts by engineers at Engineered Arts, a company based in Cornwall, England. The engineers believe the robot will be able to draw pictures of people in sight with a writing instrument in her hand. Meller wants the robot to perform like a human artist.
He spoke to the Reuters News Agency after seeing Ai-Da’s head being carefully brought to life by specialists who were connecting individual hairs to form eyebrows. He said, “She’s going to actually be drawing and we’re hoping to then build technology for her to paint.” “But also as a performing artist, she’ll be able to engage with audiences and actually get messages across, asking those questions about technology today,” he added.
Ai-Da’s skeletal robotic head may still be separate from her body, but her movements are very alive. Cameras in each of her eyeballs recognize human body parts. Ai-Da will make eye contact and follow you around the room, opening and closing her mouth as you do. If you get too close, the robot will back away, closing and then opening her eyes as if in shock.
The specialists are using the company’s Mesmer lifelike robot technology to create her head. Once finished, Ai-Da will have a mixed-race appearance, with long dark hairs and rubber-like skin made from silicone. The teeth and skin inside her mouth will come from a 3D printer. Marcus Hold, working at Engineered Arts, said, “Mesmer brings together the development of software mechanics and electronics to produce a lifelike face with lifelike gestures in a small human-sized package.”
Ai-D- will make her first public appearance at an exhibit called “Unsecured Futures” at the University of Oxford. Some of her pictures are expected to appear at another show in London later.

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a quiz with a question: “What is the first name of the woman, who cleans the school?” Surely this was some kind of joke. I 【1】 (see) the cleaning woman before, but how could I know her name? I handed in my paper, 【2】 (leave) the last question blank. Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade. “Absolutely.” said the professor. “You're likely 【3】 (meet) many people. They all deserve your attention and care.”
I've never forgotten that lesson.
32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I couldn’t bear it any longer! My best friend had gone for lunch with the most popular girl in class, leaving me to eat my tuna sandwich alone in the library. Worse still, during dance class, my partner, a boy, refused to hold my hand and bad mouthed me behind my back, further feeding my anger. It was, without a doubt, my worst day in school. I was hurt and mad, and looking for a target to release my anger.
When I got home from school, Mother had baked peanut butter cookies and piled them up on a plate. She even artfully decorated each one with royal icing and topped it with sugar. ”Couldn’t you have made chocolate chip?“ I said moodily. ”I could have,“ she replied from the laundry room, ”but I made peanut butter ones. Eat them while they’re still hot, sweetie.“ Although I thought Mother was rather unthoughtful, I caved in and took a few bites unwillingly in the end. Later, when she pulled a grilled chicken from the oven and sang a merry tune, I somehow got annoyed again—Never mind that Mother had busied herself the whole afternoon with the cooking just to put this hot meal on the table. I wanted hamburgers.
”Nobody even likes that kind of food, Mum! Why didn’t you make hamburgers?“ I complained. Mother took a deep breath, ran her fingers through her messy hair and looked into my eyes with a puzzled look. ”Sweetheart, you’ve never complained about having it before. What’s up?“ she said matter-of-factly (平淡地). It was from there that all went downhill. I screamed and complained nonstop until Mother hit her limit. It was the first time that Mother had got mad at me. Nobody seemed to care about me, including my beloved mother! Ultimately, we had a shouting match in the hallway.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

Unable to contain her anger, ”No dinner for you! Go to bed now!" she exploded.
