  • 21、As the most typical part of the art of Chinese language, idioms have contributed to the inheritance and development of the old Chinese culture. 【1】 This set of stamps includes three Chinese idioms often used to enlighten and encourage people.

The idiom Yu Gong Yi Shan (The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains) is from Liezi. In ancient times, there was an old man in front of whose house were Taihang and Wangwu Mountains. 【2】 So he gathered his family and began to dig the mountain and move the earth elsewhere, believing that with their continuous efforts, the mountains would finally be leveled. 【3】

The idiom Wo Xin Chang Dan(Sleeping on Brushwood and Tasting Gall)is from Records of the Grand History. In the Spring and Autumn Period, the State of Wu defeated the State of Yue, and captured the king of Yue, Gou Jian. The idiom Wen Ji Qi Wu (Rising up to Practice Swordplay upon Hearing the Rooster Crow) is from The Book of Jin Dynasty. It is when we actually sit down to study that our minds begin to slip away. This is because focus is like a muscle. Unless you build it, you’ll be distracted by everything!【1】.

    ●Make a to-do list

Sometimes the simple act of writing down everything that’s on your plate makes it more manageable. You get it out of your working memory, so it’s no longer part of the free-floating anxiety cloud around you.【2】. Once it’s out of your head, it won’t distract you.

    ●Meditate (冥想)

【3】. Just breathe in, breathe out. Try this for five to fifteen minutes each day. As you get into this practice, most find their minds are in fact an incredibly noisy and distracting place. Loads of ideas are always popping up. This is normal, though. The real value is in noticing every time your mind wanders, you bring your attention back.

    ●Listen

Focused listening is a life skill, one that can be applied in many areas.【4】. When you do this, you’ll discover that deep listening is HARD WORK and requires brain power.

    ●Read difficult works

Read long-form pieces of work at a slow, deliberate pace. Reading difficult material successfully requires real concentration and determination, and your willpower will grow accordingly.

Focus is a skill you can nurture in yourself.【5】. The more you work on it, the more focused you will stay.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

When David was nine and Laura was twelve, the battles started. Before that, they got along great. Laura was always protective of her little brother, and he in turn, was very fond of her.

Maybe it was about needing space or demanding independence. Whatever the reason was, it drove my husband and me crazy. It would start over the smallest of excuses. One minute the house would be quiet, and the next they’d be shouting at one another. And on and on it would go. Until, finally, one of us would have to step in. And there would be a truce...sort of. At least until the next fight. Our once happy home was being turned into a war area.

One night, in hopelessness, we called the kids into the living room and told them how upsetting their behavior was. We asked them for ideas about how we could regain peace in the family.

We asked each of them to come up with a half dozen appropriate results that we could apply the next time they had a fight.

The following day we were presented with a list of results from each. Some even looked pretty good. Examples: Clean the other person’s room; Do the dishes for the other person; Hug and make up, etc.

We decided to arrange those results around the edge of a board, and then we attached a spinning arrow in the middle. When you gave it a spin, the arrow would finally stop and point to one of the results. Then we hung the board up in the kitchen. We crossed our fingers, and waited.

It was amazing. Just the existence of the board, hanging on our kitchen wall, had an immediate calming effect on the atmosphere in our home. But it only took about ten days before peace was destroyed by another battle. So we called them both into the kitchen.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

We took the board down off the wall and placed it on the table.

In the same spirit, we ended up making boards with other themes.
