四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、

Terrafugia Inc. said that its new flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car next year. The flying car named the Transition has two seats, four wheels and wings that can be folded, so it can be driven like a car. The Transition, which flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes last month, can reach about 70 miles every hour on the road and 115 miles in the air. It burns around 23 gallons (加仑) of gas every hour in the air.

_____________________ Around 500 people have already prepaid (预付) $10,000 for getting a Transition. It’s reported that more and more people would like to have one, after Terrafugia introduces the Transition to the public at the New York Auto Show. But it may be impossible to show up on too many driveways. It’s expected to cost $ 279,000 each. And it won’t help if you’re in a heavy traffic. The car needs a runway.

Inventors have been trying to make flying cars since the 1930s. According to Robert Mann, an airline scientist, Terrafugia has come closer than anyone to making the car really fly in the sky.

The government has already agreed the company to use special materials to make it easier for the car to fly. The Transition is now going through tests to make sure it is safe.

Terrafugia says an owner would need to pass a test and complete 20 hours of flying time to be able to fly the Transition, the airline pilots would find it easy to control the car.

1The first paragraph is mainly about________________.

A.the flying speed of the Transition B.the advantages of the Transition

C.the need of gas for the Transition D.the basic information of the Transition

2The government ___________ the development of flying cars.

    A.is excited about B.is against C.doesn’t mind D.supports

3In the second paragraph, the missing sentence could be “___________”

A.The flying car is a new thing. B.The flying car comes into our life.

C.The flying car is popular but not perfect. D.The flying car costs a lot.

4Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?

A.The new flying car can fly 115 miles an hour in the sky.

B.We can see many flying cars on the streets recently.

C.People have been making flying cars for more than 80 years.

D.It’s easier for the pilots to drive the flying car.

  • 25、It is true that people with better education are usually able to get better paying jobs. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don't. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people get jobs. But this isn't accepted by all people.

Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don't need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and maths need not be taught in detail, either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.

Education is well-rounded (全面的) and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that,  it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of human. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and take an interest in the world.

I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.

1 People with little education usually_______.

    A. spend a long time in school

    B. have a good chance to get a job

    C. spend the best years to choose jobs

    D. have fewer chances to get a good job

2The earliest education was probably to_______.

    A. make a man lead a better life

    B. teach a man to write and read

    C. make people get a way of living

    D. teach people to read good books

3 It is expected that educated people will be able to_______.

    A. accept education as a way of living

    B. take an interest in the whole world

    C. develop their abilities to make plays

    D. learn subjects like language and math

4 The passage mainly tells us that_______.

    A. education should make a man improve

    B. people can get education in a short time

    C. people should be able to get good paying jobs

    D. all subjects are so important for a way of living

Some scientists think that some of the crop circles might be man-made. They believe that thanks to modern technology, it is possible to create such complicated patterns in a short time.

However, others think that crop circles might be the work of some aliens. Because they often appear in areas shortly after there have been UFOs to be seen. They also think that the circles are so complicated that nobody on the earth is able to make a true crop circle.
