四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、As little children, most of us were taught the virtue (美德) of honesty from stories. The well-known story of Pinocchio (匹诺曹) teaches the importance of telling the truth. Every time Pinocchio lies, his nose grows longer and longer. Another story is about the boy who “cried wolf”. In the end, he loses all his sheep and the trust of the people of his village because he tells lies many times. These types of stories show children that “honesty is the best policy”. Still, if this is the case, then why do so many people lie? The fact is that people lie for many reasons.

One reason people lie is to minimize (减少) a mistake. While it is true that everyone does something wrong from time to time, some people do not have the courage to admit their mistakes because they are afraid they will be blamed. For example, students might lie to their teachers about unfinished homework. They might say that they left the work at home when, in fact, they did not do the work at all. These students do not want to get in trouble or seem irresponsible, so they make up an excuse—a lie—to save face.

Another reason for lying has to do with self-protection. Parents, especially those with young children, may teach their children to use this type of “protective” lie in certain situation. What should children do if a stranger calls while the parents are out? Many parents teach their children to explain that their mother and father are too busy to come to the phone at that time. In this situation, protective lying can mean greater safety.

People lie for many reasons, both good and bad. Lying to keep the peace or to stay safe can have positive results. However, lying to stay out of trouble can lead to more trouble in the end. Understanding the motives behind the impulse (冲动) to lie might minimize this habit of lying.

【2】According to Paragraph 2, how does the writer explain why people tell lies?

    B.By giving examples.

    C.By showing the results.

    D.By listing advantages.

【3】What is the correct structure of the passage? (P1 = paragraph 1)

    A.

    B.

    C.

    B.The Habit of Lying.

    C.The Reasons Behind Lying.

  • 25、   Many parents set rules for their children’s online activity, such as limiting (限制) the time they can spend online. But some children in the US and UK are saying that they’d like to make rules for parents, too. 3 .

In a 2016 study, it was found that parents in the US share an average (平均)of 116 photos of their kids after they are born. Most were taken before the child turned 8 years old. Many of the photos showed kids in embarrassing(令人尴尬的) situations, like having food all over their faces.

Parents do like to share their child’s progress as he or she grows up. But their kids don’t like it as much. In a survey of UK children between the ages of 12 and 16, 70 percent said they felt their parents didn’t respect their online privacy (隐私).

Besides, many kids said that other students at school sometimes play tricks on them after their parents post photos online. Once, a girl was bullied (欺负) by boys at school after they found her mom’s Wechat, which had many family photos.

Each time a photo or video is uploaded, it creates a digital footprint of a child, which can follow them into adult life. It’s always important to ask children for their permission (允许) before posting photos or videos of them.

  • 26、   Artificial intelligence (人工智能) is set to benefit mankind in many ways. It will make everyday tasks easier and bring efficiency to many industries. It might be one of man's greatest inventions.

And yet, like any other technology, AI will also bring risks. In February 2018, a group of AI experts got together to discuss the possible disadvantages of AI. What they found was that "Every AI developed by the good guys is also helpful for the bad guys, too." according to Quartz.

Their biggest worry was that the bad guys could use AI for bad things. One of the areas they looked at was the use of AI to create websites that could be used to steal people's personal information. Another possibility is that AI programs could be used to hack software and break into computer secure systems (安全系统).

There are some other worries as well. It is possible that AI could be used to create fake imagines and videos. Baidu, in fact, has developed a program called Deep Voice that can "clone (克隆)" anyone's voice by studying a 3.7-second audio sample (音频样本).

Many leading people have expressed worries about AI. People like Bill Gates and Elon Musk have called for the industry to be more strictly controlled, as there are few laws right now on the use of AI.

However, this is set to change. In March 2018, the European Union plans to set up a group that will discuss the moral and ethical (伦理道德的) dangers of AI, which will help to keep it safe for mankind.

  • 27、Look at the pictures. Can you guess what they are used for? Are they toys? Well, if you think so, think again. These cute “rabbits” are actually huabobo. It has been a popular traditional food in Shandong Province for more than 300 years.

Usually, huabobo is four or even six times bigger than mantou. It has become a necessary part of some important events. Local women use tools like knives, scissors and pens to shape the dough (生而团) into ducks, dragons, peaches, etc, before having them steamed. Then they color them. Their bright and beautiful colors are generally considered to express good wishes.

For example, huabobo in the shapes of rabbits and tigers is usually given to children to express the wish that a boy will be as strong as a tiger and a girl as lovely and clever as a white rabbit. And huabobo in the shape of man darin duck (鸳鸯) represents the wish that a newly-married couple will live happily together to an old age.

Huabobo is normally sweet in taste. The way to make huabobo has been passed down from generation to generation in Shandong Province.

Huabobo tastes good, but most huabobo shops only serve it locally. That detail caught the attention of Zang Chaiyuan, a 25-year-old girl from Yantai. She wanted to introduce huabobo to more people.

Zang’s love for huabobo has also led her to create new shapes. She also uses natural fruit and vegetable juice to color huabobo. What’s more, she has found a way to store huabobo for over two months, making it more convenient to send it to other cities.

Using her creative works, Zang has managed to breathe new life into the traditional huabobo, allowing more young people to understand and taste this traditional food.

【1】What are the steps in making huabobo? Which is the missing part?

    A.serve it.

    B.steam it.

    C.cut up the dough.

【2】What shape of huabobo is usually given to a boy?

B.She improves the way she sends huabobo.

C.She helps keep this traditional food alive.

    【5】How is this passage organized?

    A.
