21、Sometimes, we remember our childhood neighborhood just as well, or even better than, our childhood homes. For both children and grown—ups, neighborhoods are a place to play, learn, and keep in mind.
In most parts of Canadian suburbs (市郊), almost everyone on the block(街道) knows each other. Coming home together on the bus is usually just the beginning of neighboring children spending time together. Whether it’s playing soccer or running after each other around on bikes, kids often take advantage of the daylight to get some fresh air outside. When it’s hot, children can swim in a pool together. And when it’s cold, they can have snowball fights with one another.
Grown—ups also take advantage of living in a community by taking care of their neighbors. It’s convenient for neighbors to become friends because they live so close together. Neighbors will often help to look after their babies or pets.
If someone holds a party, neighbors might lend some space for guests to park their cars in. And if a postman mixes up the mail, neighbors are more than happy to return it back to its owner.
Having kind and caring neighbors can make a world of difference in how a person thinks of their home. To some people, a home may not be just the house they live in, but also the community they are a part of. Neighborhoods, just like homes, come in all different shapes and sizes. Some neighbor—hoods may have over 100 people, while others may only have a few people. But whatever the size, neighborhoods can be a powerful and memorable part of our lives, filled with neighbors well always remember.

22、I will never forget my experiences in the United States. I went to an American college a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was hurt in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court (法院).
After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very thankful and decided to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was surprised. He had good reason to charge (索价), he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible (负责任的) for my accident, so I should pay him. But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients (病人) and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time. The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided (避免), yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided to refuse his help. And he made me pay him $770.
Now I had to act as my own lawyer. I told the insurance (保险) company the date I was leaving America because of my inexperience (缺少经验). Knowing that, they played for time and I left without getting a cent.
My experiences taught me two things about America: Firstly, in a country like America, money is everything. It is more important than friendship, foreigners are not treated (对待) the same as natives. So when we talk about America, we should see both its good and bad sides.

23、Why are your study habits different from those of your friends? Why do you seem to learn faster in some classes while more slowly in others? One reason you may not know is that people have different learning types. Scientists say there are three different learning types:Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic.
Visual learners learn best by seeing. If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs, and videos, you are probably a visual learner. You’re not good at copying down what the teacher says in class. Never mind. You can draw graphs or pictures instead, if you find that works better for you.
Auditory learners learn best by hearing. If you seem to easily remember things by hearing them, then you are probably an auditory learner. You must listen carefully while the teacher is speaking because it's the easiest way for you to learn.Sometimes you may find that taking notes stops you from listening carefully. After class, you can write down what you remember or borrow your friends’ notes to copy.
Kinesthetic learners learn best by doing. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands, you are probably a kinesthetic learner.Taking notes by writing can make you pay close attention to information as you receive it.Of course, you can learn best by making full use of labs or other class activities.
Hope you learn better by knowing what your personal learning type is.

Hey! Mother's Day is coming. Have you planned something good for your mom? If not, try one of these tips.
What's Her Favorite?
Most teens don't know what their mom's favorite is. You do? Then, what are you waiting for? Buy her something she likes and wrap it carefully. The best time to give her that is while she is sleeping at night. Put it on the drawer next to her so that when she wakes up, she'll be surprised to see it.
Treat a Queen
Your house is a palace with a king and queen (it doesn't matter if you're rich or poor). Our mother is the real queen in our life and in our family, though her duties make her look like she is not. Give the lady a day off and you can do the housework.
Because of stress and the problems that she is facing right now, she doesn't look good any more. Perhaps you could take some of your savings to treat her in a salon or the department store. Then, choose nice clothes that would make her look beautiful!
Have Some of Your Time
Our mothers have special memories in mind. It is the time that they gave birth to their healthy baby. How about you? What's your best moment with her? Have you ever had a good time with your mother not talking about your problems? Have you ever told her how much you thank her for the life she gave to you, the time she cared for you? Maybe you can tell her how happy you are when she was there looking after you during your painful days in your life.
Tell the magic words
Life is short. We don't know what will happen tomorrow. Those three words can make her heart jump for happiness, you know? Just tell her “I love you!” and it would make her smile so sweetly. Just try! We don't want to miss a thing, right?
