  • 25、Drugs(药物)come in different ways. However, can you imagine that drugs come in chicken eggs? A team of scientists from England say that it can come true. They have developed special chickens that lay eggs with drugs inside. These special drugs can help with some kinds of illnesses. Until now, they have made two kinds of drugs. One drug can deal with skin problems and the other can deal with a nerve disease(神经性疾病).

Certain drugs are produced by the special chickens inside their egg whites. These drugs are made of proteins which can be found in animals’ skin, hair, milk and meat. The scientists also use DNA technology to make sure that the drugs are only inside the egg whites. In this way, the chickens can stay healthy.

Besides egg whites, drugs made of proteins come in milk of cows and sheep. Compared with cows and sheep, the special chickens have ascendancy over them. First, they are cheaper to raise. Second, they need less room and grow faster.

These special chickens can pass on their drug-producing ability. So far, five generations of the special chickens have appeared. But scientists may need more time to make the drugs perfect. It’s said that scientists will realize their dream in five to ten years.

1What is the passage mainly about?

    A. It’s mainly about a serious illness.

    B. It’s mainly about a natural ability of chickens.

  • 26、   It happens to all of us. It is the end of the term and your teacher gives you your report card. You look at it and your heart stops because you realize that your parents are going to be very angry. This is the classic case of a bad report card! There is nothing you can do to change the past. So, what can you do now?

Grades are how most schools evaluate(评价)students and they are pretty important. The problem is that we do not always get good grades we (or our parents) want. After a bad report card, it is important to figure out what to do next.

The first thing to do is to talk to your teacher. Find out how your grades are calculated(计算). Is the problem a bad test, lack of participation(参与)in class, or a failure to complete homework? Next, if the problem is something you can solve on your own (such as not doing your homework), make a promise to change your behavior! Thirdly, if you have been studying hard and still get a bad grade, you probably need some extra help with your classes. Talk to your teacher and explain your situation. He or she will tell you where you can receive the extra help you need. Lastly, make a detailed plan of how you will improve your grades. Write down the plan and have it ready when you talk to your parents. That’s a good way to make your parents less angry.

While all parents want their children to get good grades, most understand that every report card is not perfect. The important thing is that you show your parents you have a plan to improve your grades for next time. Always remember, many of the world’s most successful people failed many times before they became successful. They learned from their failures, and you should, too!

1The problem with the grades is that ________.

A.most schools evaluate students by using grades B.it’s important to get good grades

C.we don’t always get good grades we want D.grades are sometimes incorrect

    2The passage is written in a/an ________ tone(语气).

    A.crazy B.serious C.sad D.angry

3The text above is written to ________.

A.encourage students to get good grades B.make parents less angry

C.share ways to deal with bad report cards D.find excuses for bad grades

    4The passage is probably from________.

A.a software instruction B.a story book C.a teenager magazine D.a travel diary

English book Animal Farm (1945) tells a story about farm animals. They are fed up with (受够了) Mr Jones, the farmer. He treats them badly, so they decide to kick him off the farm and run the farm themselves.

One day an old pig called Old Major gathers the animals around him. He tells them that all animals should stand together. He says they should take over the farm. They say that all animals are equal.

    A. e a b c d   B. a e b d c

    C. b e c a d   D. b e a c d

2Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

    A. George Orwell is the writer of the book Animal Farm.

    B. All the learners of English should read this book.

    C. The book became a film in 1947.

    D. Snowball and Napoleon lead the farm in the end.

3What do you think of Napoleon according to the passage?

    A. Friendly and kind.   B. Polite and helpful.

    C. Popular and honest   D. Dishonest and unkind

4The purpose of the passage is ______________________.
