四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Even if you shop with plastic bags, always remember to recycle them. Most families don’t realize the importance of eco-friendly living, especially children.

So how can you help children start seeing green? Well, here are a few suggestions.

Don’t buy toys-borrow instead. If kids are concerned, most toys start to lose their shine. Don’t let the unloved toys gather dust around the house-instead, join a local toy library, give them to the library. And if you do buy new toys, try to buy toys made from wood and other eco-friendly materials.

Spend time outside. Make sure your child spends time learning to be outside. Let him/her get involved in nature by planting a tree, building a birdhouse, or taking a bike ride in a nearby park.

Teach green. Even if your child doesn’t receive an environmental education in the classroom, there’s no reason that you can’t spread the word at home. Let your kid help out with separating your recyclables.

Stick with eco-friendly entertainment. Most kids may not seem like interested in the subject on the environment, but put it in a TV show and they’ll change their minds. Give them a taste of the online cartoon show, and you’ll finally find the children learn it happily.

1The phrase “help children start seeing green” can be replaced by“__________”.

    A. help children see the green color

    B. tell children they should like green

    C. help children understand the importance of eco-friendly living

    D. teach children how to recycle rubbish

2The Chinese meaning of the underlined word. “recyclables” is“_____.”

    A. 可以回收利用物   B. 再生能源   C. 化学药剂   D. 电缆线

3Which of the following is NOT true?.

    A. We can buy toys made from wood.

    B. Parents shouldn’t teach children environmental subjects at home.

    C. Most kids don’t like to learn subjects on the environment

    D. Parents should teach their children to build a birdhouse.

    4The writer doesn’t think that_________.

    A. parents should buy lots of toys for their children.

    B. parents should give unloved toys to the library.

    C. parents can teach children environmental subjects on TV.

    D. parents should spend time in nature with their children.

  • 25、   Upcycling is the process of changing old materials into something useful and often beautiful.

So, is it the same as recycling? No. Recycling takes materials-paper or glass-and breaks them down so their base materials can be remade into a new product. When you upcycle an item(物品), you are not breaking down the material,

you are simply refashioning it. For example, you might make shoes out of old tyres. Also, the upcycled item is typically of the same, or even better, quality(质量) than the original.

Upcycling isn’t a new idea. Some of the best examples of modern-day upcycling come from the 1930s to 1940s when families didn’t have enough materials. In those days, things were repurposed over and over until there were no longer useful. For example, an old door can be made into a new dining table. Economising(节约) is still a trend(趋势) today and a big reason why more and more people upcycle. But an even bigger reason for the rebirth of upcycling is its good influence on the environment.

Upcycling is green. The plain and simple fact of the matter is that upcycling is much better for the planet than throwing things away. When you upcycle, that's one item less that ends upon the waste mountain. Upcycling is also considerably more environmentally friendly than recycling, which needs energy or water to break down materials. Upcycling just needs your own creativity and effort.

Grace Robinson, from the UK, takes used tea bags and turns them into dresses, shoes and even hats. Every day she drinks some tea, and then dries out the tea bags with the tea still in them. When they are dry, she takes the tea out and sews the bags together to make clothes. This can take a long time- maybe months for a single dress -so Grace gets friends to help her by drinking tea too and passing their tea bags on to her.

There are two ways to support the upcycling movement. Sort(分类)through your wardrobe or recycling bin and create items yourself, or buy ready-made items from upcycled materials. Both ways benefit the environment and in return, you get something that’s both attractive and practical.

1We can learn from the passage that upcycling ___________.

A.can improve the quality of items

    B.needs more energy than recycling

C.needs to break down base materials

    D.produces more waste than recycling

    2The underlined word"refashioning"in Paragraph 2 probably means “___________”.

    A.giving a new form B.giving a simple name

    C.making a perfect copy D.making a different model

3The writer probably agrees that ___________.

A.it is better to make clothes with used tea bags

B.upcycling is much greener than recycling

C.it is necessary to help others to upcycle

D.people need to be more creative

4Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?

    A.Get started to recycle today

    B.A modern trend: upcycling

C.Is it the same as recycling?

    D.To recycle or to upcycle?

  • 26、The Amazing Brain

Sleep. It’s something we spend about a third of our lives doing, but do any of us really understand what it’s all about?

We all know based on our own experience that when we sleep, it clears our minds, and when we don’t sleep, it leaves our minds murky (昏沉沉的). But when we still haven’t understood why sleep has this amazing function for the mind.

Recently biologists have found that sleep may actually be a kind of design solution to some of the brain’s most basic needs, the way that brain meets the high demands and the narrow margins (范围) that set it apart from all the other organs (器官) of the body. The brain has a large pool of clean, clear fluid (流体) called cerebrospinal fluid. Biologists call it the CSF. The CSF fills the space that surrounds the brain, and wastes from inside the brain make their way out to the CSF, which gets the waste into the blood. What was surprising to them was that the fluid on the outside of the brain didn’t stay on the outside. Instead, the CSF goes into and through the brain along the outsides of the blood vessels (血管), it was actually helping to clear away and clean the waste from the spaces between the brain’s cells (细胞). This only happens in the sleeping brain.

Recent research suggests that what’s happening is that when the brain is awake and is at its most busy, it puts off clearing away the waste from the spaces between its cells until later. When we go to sleep, it gets into a kind of cleaning mode to clear away the waste from the spaces between its cells.

We go to sleep every single night, but our brains never rest. While our body is still and our mind is off walking in dreams somewhere. Like our housework, it’s dirty and a thankless job, but it’s also important. In your house, if you stop cleaning your kitchen for a month, your home will become completely unlivable very quickly. But in he brain, the situation is much more serious because when it comes to cleaning the brain, it is the very health and function of the mind and the body that’s at stake. That is why understanding these very basic housekeeping functions of the brain today may prevent and treat diseases of the mind tomorrow.

1What does the underlined phrase “at stake” in the last paragraph mean?

    A. in a healthy situation

    B. in a dangerous situation

    C. in an amazing situation

    D. in an unlivable situation

2What can we learn from the passage?

    A. Sleeping makes our brain feel murky.

    B. The CSF can clean the waste in our brain.

    C. Our brain can clean the waste at any time.

    D. Sleeping makes our brain have a good rest.

3What is the main purpose of writing this passage?

    A. To teach us how to have a good sleep.

    B. To show the new research of our brain.

    C. To introduce how CSF works in our brain.

    D. To tell us the importance of sleeping.

  • 27、   There's a heat that's so hot you can literally(不加夸张地) fry an egg in the sun. This is a serious side to summer in Australia that you might not know about.

In February there were more than 80 different bushfires burning at the same time in New South Wales, a southeastern state of Australia. The Guardian newspaper reported that 42 homes were burned to the ground because of these fires. These homes are not like Chinese ones. They are huge farms. Many Australian properties are larger than 1,000 sq km, while the biggest is more than 20,000 sq km, even larger than Beijing!

Every family prepares for bushfire season and protects their property. But sometimes the fires are too big and people have to move to safety

The hot weather also causes other problems. It was so hot in February that thousands of bats(蝙蝠) died from the heat. People can get sick if they stay outside for too long or don't drink enough water The heat can also cause power problems for homes and businesses

The heat, which can go above 40 ℃ in some cities, is very dangerous. There are lots of trees and dry grass in areas far away that can easily catch fire. Even throwing a burning cigarette out of a car window can start a dangerous fire. That is why summer is also known as "bushfire season" in Australia.

The Australian summer is enjoyable. But it is worth remembering that the heat can cause lots of problems, too.

1According to the second and third paragraphs, we know that________.

A.bushfires happen more often on farms

B.bushfires can cause a huge loss to people

C.Australian people are very rich because of their large farms.

2What does the underlined word “properties” in Para.2 probably mean in Chinese?

    A.房产 B.山林 C.水域

3The hot weather in Australia can bring the following problems EXCEPT that________.

A.bats can die B.electricity can go out C.drinking water runs out

4What’s the main idea of the fifth paragraph?

A.There are more fire accidents in areas far away.

B.It is dangerous to smoke in a forest.

C.Bushfires in Australia are common events in summer.

5What can we infer from the passage?

A.The high heat is one of the causes of bushfires in Australia.

B.People have no way to fight against bushfires.

C.The weather changes a lot in Australia.
