26、 When Peng Liyuan stepped off the plane in Moscow, the whole world wanted to know who dressed the elegant first lady. The reporter released the secret——Ma Ke.
Peng Liyuan has been wearing Ma Ke's designs for more than a decade, a fact that was only highlighted recently when she was on her first state visit, accompanying her husband President Xi Jinping. The elegant and attractive Peng, formerly a popular singer, has been compared with the US' first lady Michelle Obama and France's Carla Bruni- Sarkozy, since stepping off the airplane in Moscow on March 22. Suddenly, everyone was curious to know more about the first lady's wardrobe.
Even so, Ma prefers a low-key approach. “If you eat a tasty egg why would you want to see the hen?” she says of all the media attention.
Ma's relationship with Peng began 10 years ago after a concert in Guangzhou when a reporter told Peng she knew the designer behind the label Exception de Mixmind. Peng asked for an introduction because she was a fan of Ma's designs and had been wearing them for years.
The two naturally became friends. Ma says: “The painting reflects the painter, and clothes reflect both the designer and the wearer. Someone desires fame and wealth, or love and sympathy; what you have in your heart is reflected in the design. Those who don't share my philosophy won't buy my clothes. Peng is a caring person, devoted to charity and environmental protection, which is exactly what I'm doing now.”
However, regardless of the brand, Peng's support of Chinese labels has surprised millions of Chinese who favor foreign fashion brands.
“Instead she presented a vision of Chinese fashion, desiring to bring Chinese designers to the world stage,” says a western designer.
The first lady's double-breasted coat and her black leather handbag aren't available at any of exception's shops, though Exception's physical stores do have seen a rising number of visitors.

D.her dissatisfaction with the media attention on her dress
【3】What can be inferred from the passage?
A.First ladies compete with each other whenever they are together.
B.Peng's suits can be bought in Ma Ke's clothes stores.
C.Ma Ke offered to design the first lady's clothes through her friends.
D.Peng had liked Ma's designs long before she got to know her in the flesh.

27、 Chinese scientists recently have produced two monkeys with the same gene, Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua, using the same technique that gave us Dolly the sheep. These monkeys are not actually the first primates(灵长类)to be cloned. Another one named Tetra was produced in the late 1990s by embryo(胚胎)splitting, the division of an early-stage embryo into two or four separate cells to make clones. By contrast, they were each made by replacing an egg cell nucleus(卵原子核)with DNA from a differentiated body cell. This Dolly method, known as somatic(躯体的) cell nuclear transfer(SCNT), can create more clones and allows researchers greater control over the edits they make to the DNA.
Success came from adopting several new techniques. These included a new type of microscopy(显微术) to better view the cells during handling or using several materials that encourage cell reprogramming, which hadn’t been tried before on primates. Still, the research process proved difficult, and many attempts by the team failed. Just two healthy baby monkeys born from more than 60 tested mothers. This leads to many researchers’ pouring water on the idea that the team’s results bring scientists closer to cloning humans. They thought this work is not a stepping stone to establishing methods for obtaining live born human clones. Instead, this clearly remains a very foolish thing to attempt, and it would be far too inefficient, far too unsafe, and it is also pointless.
But the scientists involved emphasize that this is not their goal. There is now no barrier for cloning primate species, thus cloning humans is closer to reality. However, their research purpose is entirely for producing non-human primate models for human diseases; they absolutely have no intention, and society will not permit this work to be extended to humans. Despite limitations, they treat this breakthrough as a novel model system for scientists studying human biology and disease.
【1】What do we know about the technology called SCNT?
A. It created the first primates.
B. It may contribute to editing the DNA.
C. It can divide an early-stage embryo into several cells.
D. It produced two cloned monkeys with different genes.
【2】What does the author mean by “pouring water on the idea” in paragraph 2?
A. Keeping a hot topic of it. B. Paying no attention to it.
C. Having a low opinion of it. D. Adding supportive evidence to it.
【3】What is the scientists’ purpose to clone these monkeys?
A. To prepare for their research on human cloning.
B. To serve as a stepping stone to their reputation.
C. To help with the study of human diseases.
D. To clone other animals for scientific use.
【4】What can we infer from the passage?
A. Cloning humans is already on its way.
B. New techniques seem to be pointless.
C. Society won’t agree to clone another monkey.
D. The success rate of this cloning of monkey was not high.
28、 Upon first look, the world of business is no place for young women. And many people have told my cofounders and me that in many circumstances. Pessimistic though people are about women’s chances in conducting business, three of us female college students, without any experiences, started our business with a greatly aggressive goal: to set up a seaweed farm in North Carolina and grow as much seaweed as possible to help cut down carbon emissions (排放) and pollution filled with nutrition from agricultural activities.
In the beginning, our ideas were either ignored or mocked by the researchers from whom we sought help and advice. But we carried on with our research–if others wouldn’t provide us with answers, we weren’t afraid to try to work them out by ourselves. We experiment on species which could grow in warmer waters, and we had identified potential markets into which we planned to sell the product. We've spent the last two years setting up the first seaweed farm in NC, applying for a patent (专利) and competing with five final teams in front of the United Nations for 2 million.
Despite all of our efforts, many industry experts remained unwilling to take us seriously. But as often happens in business, the same characteristics we were ignored for were, in reality, our biggest competitive advantage. Our age gave us the strength to learn from failure, and our background as environmental scientists, rather than businesswomen, helped us find new marketing opportunities. For every 10 farmers who claimed nobody would ever want to feed their cows seaweed, we found one who was interested. For every 15 cosmetics producers who refused to answer our cold calls, we stuck to the one with an interesting idea for a seaweed lotion.
Over the course of our early business development efforts, we have had access to a wealth of resources, programs, and individuals who work constantly to help us succeed. By staying focused on bringing our ideas to light, our team has demonstrated that entrepreneurship (创业) is exactly the right place for the hopeful.
【1】What was the major cause for their difficulty in starting business?
A.They were women. B.They were young.
C.They lacked experience. D.They suffered prejudice.
【2】What did they do to make their business successful?
A.They expanded their seaweed farms.
B.They experimented on seaweed species.
C.They got their product officially recognized.
D.They consulted the United Nations.
【3】What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A.How they got others interested in seaweed.
B.How they succeeded from their so-called weaknesses.
C.How they made themselves more competitive.
D.How they approached potential customers.
【4】Which of the following can best describe the three women?
A.Innocent and simple-minded. B.Ambitious and self-centered.
C.Adventurous and persistent. D.Courageous and stubborn.
29、Our school owned a boat named Jolie Brise. It was one of the most famous tall ships in the world and three times winner of the Fastnet Race. The boat was unusual: especially for a remote grammar school in Wiltshire, about as far away from the sea as it can get in England. Obviously, such a site didn't match its fame.
Mr Parish had originally intended to join the Royal Navy but ended up as a teacher at our school. Some pupils guessed that he still felt the call of the ocean-perhaps because his lessons were almost entirely devoted to navigation(航海). They argued that it was deeply unfair to learn about navigation but never actually go to sea. Then Mr. Parish, seeing a bunch of young people prepared to crew the boat, allowed them to sail her in return for working on the boat. And that was the beginning of the school sailing club.
By the time I arrived, the sailing club had grown. At weekends, we would work on her all day, cleaning and painting her, and collapse into sleeping bags on the floor at night. Then came the big day when a school sailing trip was announced. Its destination was Saint-Malo. But it also meant that we had to refit the ship by removing every piece of ballast(压舱物)and replacing the bilge water(底舱污水)before we were allowed to sail.
And I did learn the ropes on that school trip. I learned how to operate a ship in the high waves. I learned the meaning of teamwork and became a better team player. I also learned that the best fish is the one that you have caught and cooked yourself from a boat that you have rebuilt and sailed yourself.
【1】What was unusual about the boat Jolie Brise?
A.It was in a perfect condition.
B.Its lawful owner was Mr. Parish.
C.It won glory for the Royal Navy.
D.Its location wasn't as famous as it was.
【2】Why was the sailing club set up?
A.The crew were selected.
B.The boat needed workers.
C.Mr. Parish tried to explore the sea.
D.Students asked to practice navigation.
【3】What finally made the school sailing trip possible?
A.The club’s permission.
B.Mr. Parish’s sailing experience.
C.The students’ preparing the ship for it.
D.The school’s offering financial support.
【4】What does the underlined phrase “learn the ropes” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Learn to cook.
B.Master useful skills.
C.Ensure sailing safety.
D.Use ropes properly.
