四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、A lot of people like eating different kinds of things while they are watching TV programs. Some people think that people may eat more when they are watching TV programs. However, some people have different opinions. Does watching programs really have some influence on people’s eating habits? To know the answer, a study was carried out.

Scientists from Uppsala University in Sweden studied 18 women, analyzing them as they snacked and watched different kinds of programs. The women were shown a popular interesting Swedish comedy as well as a dull lecture program. The scientist also watched their eating habits carefully while the women were taking part in another boring activity—reading a text on insects living in Sweden.

Their findings have shown that when watching programs, the women eat more food than usual, which may increase the possibility that the women will snack on unhealthy food. While watching the boring lecture program the women eat 52% more food than during the interesting comedy. Compared with reading the text about insects, the women eat 35% less when watching the interesting comedy on TV.

Researchers have found that the more exciting a show is, the less likely women are to eat unhealthy food. A boring show, on the other hand, increases the risk of eating unhealthy snacks.

The findings have led the team of scientists to believe it is how exciting the TV show is, rather than the act of watching TV shows itself, that causes a person to eat more or less. “If the program is boring, you eat to kill time because you’re bored, said Aner Tal, a researcher at Cornell University’s Food Lab. But he suggested that you choose healthy snacks while sitting on the sofa for night in front of the TV. He added, “Use pre-portioned (提前分好份量的) snacks instead of endless bowls.” That means keeping the source of food out of sight to stop you from eating too much. If you know you have a habit of overeating while watching TV, just snack on something that’s better for you. Have vegetables as snacks instead of chips. Besides, next time you want to lose weight, try watching a nail-biting thriller.

【1】What does the underlined word “dull” in Paragraph 2 mean?

    A.boring

    B.exciting

    C.surprising

    D.relaxing

【2】Which of the following is TRUE about the findings of the study?

A.Women eat less unhealthy food when watching exciting shows.

B.Watching comedies is the best way for people to live healthy life.

C.Watching boring TV programs is more interesting than reading books.

D.Women eat 52% more unhealthy food when reading the text about insects.

【3】What is the passage mainly about?

A.Ways for women to form good eating habits.

B.Whether women eat healthily when they read a text on insects.

C.The relationship between eating habits and watching programs.

D.The relationship between eating habits and health conditions.

  • 25、

Have you ever been in a conflict (冲突)? Do you know how to solve it? Conflict resolution is a peaceful way of trying to deal with a conflict. Both sides in the conflict explain what they think happened to cause it. The person who listens to both sides is called the mediator (调解人).

After both sides tell what they think happened to cause the conflict, they discuss ways to solve it. They try to come up with a “resolution” that both sides agree to. They cannot be angry during the communication. Everyone should use good listening and attending skills while talking. If voices get too loud or it appears that someone is angry, the mediator will speak up and have them treat each other with respect. After different suggestions are shared in how to mediate the conflict, it is time for discussing the best solution(解决办法).

Here is an example of how conflict resolution works step by step in a school playground setting:

♦Someone says a student pushed him on the football field.

♦The person who was accused as the “pusher” says it was actually an accident.

♦The person who was pushed gets the mediator.

♦The mediator takes the two persons to a quieter place, away from others to talk.

♦The mediator calms them down and lets them know he understands their feelings.

    ♦Each person describes what happened.

♦The mediator repeats what he heard, so it is clear to everyone.

♦The mediator asks for ideas to solve the problem.

♦The two persons offer their own solutions.

♦The two persons have a discussion and come to an agreement.

♦The mediator makes sure the persons follow the solution.

♦The mediator offers praise for solving the problem.

Conflict resolution can be used in many environments. It encourages people to tell what really happened, to share their feelings, and to work together peacefully to solve the problem.

It offers people workable steps to reach an agreement with the help of a mediator.

【1】According to the passage, if two students have had a fight, they had better________.

    A.call the police

    B.get a mediator

    C.ask parents for ideas

    D.describe the fight to teachers

【2】In conflict resolution, the mediator’s job is to________.

A.describe what really happened to both sides

B.help both sides reach an agreement in a proper way

C.listen to both sides and then punish the trouble maker

D.write down what both sides have explained in the communication

【3】The underlined words “accused” in this passage might mean “________” in Chinese.

    A.惩罚

    B.忽略

    C.指责

    D.否认

【4】The writer gives the example in the passage in order to________.

A.show how a mediator works in a football match

B.help us know the importance of a mediator in daily life

C.show how conflict resolution is used in different environments

D.help us clearly understand the workable steps in conflict resolution

【5】Which of the following will be the best title?

A.How to be good at fighting

    B.How to make a resolution.

C.How to deal with angry mood.

    D.Hoe to solve a conflict.

  • 26、   As you grow older, you'll be faced with some challenging decisions—like whether to cut class  or try cigarettes. Making decisions on your own is hard enough. But when other people take part in and try to pressure you one way or another it can be even harder. People who are your age, like your classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, to get you to do something, it’s called peer pressure.

Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system. Maybe you got others excited about your new favorite book, and now everyone's reading it. These are examples of how peers positively influence each other.

Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try to get you to cut class with them. Your soccer friend might try to convince you to be mean to another player and never pass him the ball.

It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.

You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely”. Peer pressure is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who are never absent from class, smoke cigarettes, or lie to their parents, then you probably won't do these things either, even if other kids do.

If you continue to face peer pressure and you're finding it difficult to deal with, talk to someone you trust. Don't feel guilty(内疚)if you've made a mistake or two.

1The passage is most probably written for _________.

    A.doctors B.parents C.teachers D.students

2The underlined word "tough" in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to _________.

    A.wise B.difficult C.helpful D.impolite

3Which of the following may help deal with peer pressure?

A.Spending more time with classmates. B.Taking up more relaxing hobbies.

C.Choosing friends with no bad habits. D.Helping others who are in trouble.

4Which of the following shows the structure of the passage? (P = Paragraph)

    A. B. C. D.
