24、Is there a strange thing high up in the world's tallest mountains? If so, is it a big bear?Is it a monkey?Or is it a kind of man?
No one knows. This mystery has puzzled(困惑) the world for years.
In 1887, a mountain climber found large footprints in the snow. They looked like the footprints of a very large man. But men don't walk without shoes in the snow!
In 1906, another climber saw more footprints. Far off, he saw a very large animal standing on two legs. As he watched, it ran very quickly.
Fifteen years later, newspaper had new stories about the “something”.A mountain climber said he had seen the “snowman” walk slowly across the snow, far below him. He said it looked like a very large man. From then on, more and more people had stories to tell. But not until 1951 did a mountain climber bring back pictures of large footprints. The pictures showed clearly that the snowman walked on two legs. Could it be an ape(猿) man?The mystery grew! Someday we may find out just what it is that makes the large footprints.
根据短文内容,判断正(T)误(F)。
【1】The passage is mainly about the mystery of the snowman.
【2】The underlined word “footprints” in the passage means “a mark in the shape of a foot that a person or animal makes in or on a surface”.
【3】People were interested in the footprints because they looked like the footprints of a large man.
【4】The pictures of large footprints were taken by a mountain climber in 1951.
【5】Since a mountain climber first found the large footprints in the snow, the mystery of the snowman has puzzled the world for less than one hundred years.
25、On Dec. 9, 2021, three Chinese astronauts gave a science lecture 400 kilometers above Earth. Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, who are working abroad the Tiangong space station, showed millions of students their life there. They also did some fun science experiments. Let’s take a look at some of them.
Use it or lose it
The human body grows with the pull of Earth’s gravity (重力). But in space, our bones and muscles (肌肉) don’t need to sustain our body’s weight. This will cause bone and muscle loss. NASA says that astronauts can lose up to 20 percent of their muscles after just a couple of weeks. That is dangerous because they will be too weak to work.
Astronauts have different ways to prevent this. During the lecture, Zhai introduced a special uniform Ye was wearing. It’s called a “penguin suit”. There are many elastic bands (弹力带) inside the suit. Wearing it, astronauts use their muscles to stretch the bands. This keeps their muscles strong.

During another experiment, Wang made a water film (膜). Then she added more water drops onto the film to make it a water ball. This can never happen on Earth. Why?
We need to first understand the surface tension (表面张力) of water. It is like a “skin” of water. The “skin” is there because water molecules (分子) are drawn to each other. Most of the time, gravity is too strong and it breaks the “skin”. But with zero gravity in space, the “skin” stays strong and the water ball will not break.
Water in space acts differently from water on Earth in other ways. For example, water will not flow downward if you try to pour it into a cup. That’s why astronauts usually drink water through straws in sealed bags.
【1】What can we learn about the lecture from space?
A.It is a part of the astronauts’ daily work.
B.It took place in the International Space Station.
C.It is one of the astronauts’ ways to ask for help.

26、 Sometimes, I wonder whether there is any love between my parents. Every day they are busy trying to do make money. They don't act romantically the way couples do in books and on TV. They never say: “I love you.” It's not their style.
One day, my mother was swing(缝) a quilt(被子). I sat down beside her.
“Mom, I have a question to ask you,” I said after a while.

She didn't answer right away.
I thought I had hurt her.
“Susan, look at this thread (线),” she said finally. “Sometimes it appears, but most of it disappears in the quilt, It makes the quilt strong. If life was a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly be seen anywhere, but it's still important.”
The next spring, my father suddenly got very sick. My mother had to stay with him in the hospital for a month.

27、In 2011, when British photographer David J. Slater was visiting a park in Indonesia, his camera was taken away by a group of black monkeys. The result was hundreds of monkey selfies (自拍照). The best ones show a female monkey smiling toothily for the camera. Slater then sold the photos and they became popular on the Internet.
Nobody knew they would create a copyright battle three years later.
Last month, Wikimedia Commons put the monkey selfies online under a collection of free photos without Slater’s permission. Slater asked the website to take them down since he owns the copyright.
However, Wikimedia Foundation—the organization behind Wikimedia Commons—refused Slater’s request. They said that according to US copyright law, whoever pushes the button on the camera owns the copyright to the photo. It was the monkeys but not Slater that pushed the button.
What’s more, monkeys don’t own copyright. “US copyright law says that works that come from a non-human source can’t ask for copyright,” said Katherine Maher, Chief Communications Officer of Wikimedia.
Slater argues that the pictures belong to him as they were taken from his camera. He said he bought the cameras; he spent a lot of money to travel to Indonesia; and it was his carelessness that allowed the monkeys to take his cameras away. All these have made him the author of the picture, no matter who pushed the button. In a sense, the monkeys could be regarded as his assistant, Slater said.
As of now, there has been no result in the Monkey Selfie case. Who do you think will win this interesting battle?
【1】 What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. Some monkeys grabbed Slater’s camera.
B. Slater took photos of the monkeys and sold them.
C. The photos taken by Slater became popular on the Internet.
【2】The underlined word “copyright” in the second paragraph probably means “______” in Chinese.
A. 网络 B. 版权 C. 材料
【3】The copyright battle of the photos began in ______.
A. 2011 B. 2012 C. 2014
【4】Who owns the copyright of the photos according to Wikimedia?
A. The monkeys. B. David J. Slater. C. Nobody.
【5】What is the story main about?
A. A copyright battle over photos taken by monkeys.
B. Why Wikipedia refused to take down some photos.
C. How the photos taken by monkeys became popular online.

I was too tired to argue; she hit too to the truth. “Good night!” I shut her door in anger.
Later though, her gray-blue eyes filled my vision as I thought about how little time we really had until she was grown and gone. My husband asked me what was going on and I told him.
“Maybe she was not asleep yet. Why don’t you ?” he said.
I followed his advice, it was my own idea. I opened her door gently. In Darla’s hand I could see her paper all crumpled (弄皱的) up. She had torn into small pieces a big red heart with a poem she had written titled, “Why I Love My Mother?”
Why I Love My Mother
Although you’re busy, and you work so hard,
You always take time to play with me,
I love you Mommy,
Because I am the biggest part of your busy day!

She smiled and then went back to sleep, not really understanding how strongly I __ __what I said.
