26、Mobile payment going global
In addition to sightseeing, shopping is a popular activity for many Chinese tourists when they go abroad. Their huge buying power has made them become known as “walking wallets”. However, thanks to mobile payment services such as WeChat Pay and Alipay, it’s easy for people to pay for something. Perhaps “walking e-wallets” would be a better nickname.
According to Xinhua News Agency, WeChat Pay’s overseas service is available for Chinese tourists in 12 countries and regions, including Thailand, South Korea, Japan and Canada. Thailand’s Songkran Festival in every April is the most popular time for Chinese tourists to visit the country. During this year’s festival, many Chinese visitors used WeChat Pay in convenience stores, duty-free shops and restaurants. And the service is not only available in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. Many places in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand and Phuket in southern Thailand also accept WeChat Pay.
“I don’t need to take my wallet out. I don’t need to wait for change. There is some discount and no commission(销售佣金). This payment method has so many advantages,” a Beijing woman told Xinhua while shopping in Thailand.
Alipay is also popular with Chinese tourists overseas. With about 450 million users, Alipay is accepted by more than 80,000 companies worldwide, according to China Daily.
Although mobile payments can bring convenience, they are not without safety risks. In January, Alipay allowed people to log into users’ accounts and make payments without entering a password. Later, the company raised the application’s safety level and fixed the flaw.
Luckily, more and more efforts have been made to improve security. For example, Alipay has introduced new digital payment methods to users, allowing customers to process payments using a “voiceprint”, reported China Daily.

Robots are supposed to run on batteries, right? Well not all of them.
Scientists in England have built a kind of small robots that get their energy from dead flies, bad apples, or sugar.
One robot, called Slugbot, was even designed to hunt(猎取) garden slugs for dinner!
What's up with all that food?
Well, scientists at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory want to invent robots that can operate for a long time in dark, dirty, or dangerous places.
Many of those spots, like the seafloor or Antarctica, don't have electrical sockets(插座).
So inventor Chris Melhuish came up with a better idea: Build robots that get their energy just like animals do by hunting and eating food from their environment.
One robot, called Ecobot Ⅱ, could run for 12 days on a diet of eight flies! Of course, it'd still get a lot more power from one AA battery, though.
Melhuish says his team is now working on a new and improved robot, called Ecobot III, which will have a better digestion system.
It seems that after an eight fly dinner, Ecobot II couldn't deal with the leftover(剩下的) "waste".
Maybe restrooms in the future will have signs for boys, girls, and robots.

B.Robots that can work in dangerous places.
C.Robots that can get energy for themselves.
D.Robots that can be very small.
【4】Which of the following is NOT true according to this passage?
A.Robots need to work in places that have no sockets for power.
B.Melhuish is not very satisfied with Ecobot Ⅱ.
C.Maybe there will be three kinds of restrooms in the future.
D.Ecobot Ⅱ can turn its flies into energy completely.
【5】What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.Robots are hard things to invent.
B.Scientists are working to improve robots.
C.Robots in the future need to eat food like human.
D.Scientists at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory are good at robots.
