24、When Friday could talk well, I asked him a thousand questions about his country and the people there. I understood that they were cannibals. “They sometimes came to the island to eat their prisoners,” he said. He also told me that there were seventeen white men like me in his country.
One day Friday and I were standing together on top of a hill in the west part of the island when he suddenly shouted, “Look, Master! My country!” He was pointing at the land in the distance. There was a big smile on his face.
“Do you want to go back there, Friday?” I asked him.
“Oh, yes!” was his reply.
“Is it far? Can you go there by boat?”
“Yes,” he replied.
I showed him mine.
“Too small,” he said.
So I took him to see my first boat in the woods. It was twenty-three years old now and full of holes.
“This boat is good,” he said and then he laughed, “But it is too old.”
“We can make another one,” I replied. “Then you can go back to your country.”
Friday suddenly looked very sad and I saw tears in his eyes.
“Why do you want to send Friday away?” he asked. “Friday doesn’t want to go without Master.”
“I’m not going to send you away, Friday,” I said, “I’m going to come with you. Come on! Let’s look for a good tree for our boat!”
There were lots of big trees in the woods, but it was important to find one near the water. I didn’t want to make the same mistake twice! Friday soon found a good one and we cut it down. 25、
Rowing is a good sport for people. The sport is not so commonly played in China, but almost half of all American high schools have rowing teams. Recently, the school where I study had a rowing season that gave me many great experiences.
During the season, we practiced rowing a lot. We got up at six every Saturday morning and practiced for three hours out on the river. Each one of us had an oar(浆), and we each rowed one oar with both hands. Together we pulled the oars, and the oars pushed the water back so the boat would move forward. After three hours of practice, we often felt very tired, because rowing is a very physical sport. When you row, you do a lot of work with your thighs and back.
Though the practices were very hard, I chose to do them because I like the joy hard work brings. At every practice, I always did my best. Even when the coaches were not there, I kept rowing hard with my hands because I wanted to find out how well I could do. In order to move the boat fast, everyone on the team must keep the same pace (速度), so we needed to work together.
The hard work I did during the rowing helped me develop my teamwork qualities. The experience also taught me that if you want to get something, you need to pay something first. As Americans like to say, “No pains no gains!”

C.use their thighs and backs less
【4】From the story, we know that the writer _________.

B.likes to challenge herself
C.is not good at physical sports
【5】In the last paragraph, the writer wants to tell us that __________.

B.money plays an important role in life
C.a strong body is very important for our dreams
26、Working on a team is a good thing. But it can bring you some troubles. If people on your team are not good at communicating, you may often feel terrible. To create a successful team, good communication is the most necessary part for both team members and the leader. The following are some helpful suggestions.
Don’t criticize other people. When someone on your team does something wrong, don’t criticize him. You can help him to find out reasons and then help him to solve the problem. Criticizing your team members too often may make them keep away from you. As a result, you may feel lonely.
Think about other people’s ideas carefully. When someone tells you about his ideas, you should think about them carefully, no matter how silly they may seem. This shows you are interested in his ideas and makes him feel good.
Listen to other people actively. When someone is speaking to you, you need to listen to him actively. If you’re unclear about something, you should ask him about it. By doing this you can clear up any confusion(困惑) before moving on.
Share your ideas with other people. When you have a new idea, talk about it with your team members. This helps to improve the idea. Besides this, it also helps to improve your relationships between you and your team members.
