  • 25、I was in a strange city I didn't know at all, and what's more, I could not speak a word of the language. On my second day I got on the first bus that passed, rode on it for several stops, then got off and walked on. The first two hours passed pleasantly(愉快地) enough, then I decided to turn back to my hotel for lunch. After walking about for some time, I decided I had better ask the way. The trouble was that the only word I knew of the language was the name of the street in which I lived, and even that I pronounced badly. I  stopped to ask a newspaper-seller. He handed me a paper. I shook my head and repeated the name of  the street and he put the paper into my hands. I had to give him some money and went on my way. The next person I asked was a policeman. He listened to me carefully, nodded and gently took me by the arm. There was a strange look in his eyes as he pointed left and right and left again. I nodded politely and  began walking in the direction he pointed.

About an hour passed and I noticed that the houses were getting fewer and fewer and green fields were appearing on either side of me. I had come all the way into the countryside. The only thing left for me to do was find the nearest railway station.

  • 26、Should Museums Be Free?

I think that museums should be free for young people. They give young people the chance to not only enjoy arts but also learn the value of culture. Generally, in Japan, most students learn about different cultures only by reading textbooks at school. However, it’s very important for them to understand cultures “directly”. By watching works of art directly, it’s possible for students to get something that textbooks can’t give them. For that reason, I believe that museums should be free.

    —Norika

Art creates life and life is valuable. Giving something a value of $0 does not attract(吸引) people to it, and nor does it encourage them to value it. Human beings usually look up to things that are difficult or expensive to get a better way is to ask regular visitors to pay to visit museums but provide free tickets for students having lessons there.

    —Linda

Museums need money to support themselves and protect museum collections(收藏品). Artists should be thanked and respected for their hard work, and museum workers need to be paid. For all these museums need money. If you don’t have to pay to enter a museum, how will the museum keep running?

    —Richard

Why should you have to pay to learn? You shouldn’t! The museum gift shops make money. My point is, think of all the people who don’t get to go to museums because they don’t have the money. Museums are so fun but many people don’t get to experience them.

    —Vina

【1】How do most students in Japan learn different cultures?

    A.By reading textbooks.

    B.By going to museums.

    C.By watching works of art.

    D.By visiting different places.

【2】Why is Linda against free museums?

A.Museum workers need to be paid.

    B.People won’t value free things.

C.Museums need money to keep running.

D.Museums are places for students to learn.

【3】How does Richard suggest museums keep running?

A.By bringing in more famous works of art.

B.By receiving help from the government.

    C.By getting more volunteers.

    D.By asking visitors to pay.

    【4】What is Vina’s point?

    A.More gift shops are needed.

    B. Museums are boring sometimes.

C.Museums should be free so that people can get to experience them.

D.Some people shouldn’t be allowed to go to museums.

【5】Who cares whether poor people can go to museums?

    A.Norika.

    B.Linda.

    C.Richard.

    D.Vina.

  • 27、If someone says to you: “give me five”, do not search your pocket to get five yuan! It will make others laugh! The person's not asking for your money, but your fingers.

In the US, "give me five" or "give me the high five" is a popular gesture. You can see it often in films or on TV. It means the clapping (拍) of each other's raised right hands together.

People do it when they meet for the first time or something happy happens. For example, a student has good marks in exams or wins a lottery ticket (彩票).If a football team wins a game, the players will give high fives to everyone around to celebrate.

This gesture may come from the old Roman gesture of raising the right arm for the emperor. This showed that the person raising his arm did not have a sword (刀) in his hand.

Why not try to give the high five to your friends?

【1】Give me five” is a gesture to _______.

    A. make people laugh B. ask for money

    C. celebrate success   D. give my five yuan

There is no better joy than helping people see a vision for themselves, seeing them go to levels higher than they ever would have imagined on their own.

But that doesn’t mean you have to fix them or enable them. I【2】, guide them to the source of their own power. O【3】 them help and motivation as they find their own way and show you what they’re capable of. All you have to do is to believe in them.

We like to think of life as a competition, so it’s easy to look down on someone who isn’t as s【4】 or well educated as you are.

But you have no idea how far that person has already climbed or where they will end up. Time could easily reverse (反转) your positions, so be sure you treat everyone with r【5】. Appreciate those who have s【6】 you, forgive those who have hurt you, and help those who need you.
