    Friday

We arrived in Paris on Friday lunchtime and went straight to our apartment. We then went for a walk around our area and realized how close we were to the centre of Paris. It only took us 20 minutes to walk to the Louvre. After a walk around the Tuileries Gardens, we went for afternoon tea in a café called Angelina which has the most delicious hot chocolate. After warming up we then walked along to the big department store Printemps, on the top floor where you get a wonderful view of Paris (this was free). We walked along a street called Grands Boulevards which was beautiful with all its Christmas lights. The shops on this street are famous for their Christmas window displays. In the evening we cooked at the apartment and went to a Scottish pub which was funny as two of my friends are Scottish.

    Saturday

In the morning we went for brunch (a meal between breakfast and lunch) at a really cool café called FAB (French American Bakery). We had waffles with bacon and fresh carrot and ginger juice. We found out that we were really close to a chocolate museum, so of course we took a visit--- who doesn’t love chocolate! In the afternoon we went to a Christmas market with unique handmade gifts and crafts. In the evening we ate at a Tunisian restaurant and had roast chicken and vegetable stew with couscous. It was delicious and the restaurant was in a cute little lane.

    Sunday

On Sunday we went for breakfast at the same café and we caught our train back home at midday, carrying shopping bags full of lovely presents that we had bought at the Christmas market. We had a great weekend in Paris. Exploring this beautiful city with no plans was an unusual but great idea as we got to do things we wouldn’t normally discover. I highly recommend spending a weekend somewhere trying to be a local!

1Where did they enjoy the beautiful view of Paris?

    A.In a Scottish pub. B.In a department store.

C.In a café called Angelina. D.In the Louvre.

2What may the Christmas market be famous for?

    A.Christmas lights. B.Delicious food.

C.Handmade gifts and crafts. D.Christmas window display.

3When did they leave Paris according to the text?

A.On Sunday lunchtime. B.On the morning of Saturday.

C.On the morning of Sunday. D.On Friday lunchtime.

  • 27、Pets can add extra fun to your everyday life. 【1】 More importantly, you need to take care of its nutrition and health.

【2】 While your pet’s diet will be different depending on what type of animal it is, it’s important to feed it fresh food regularly. Choose food that’s fit for your pet, and only give your pet treats (美味食物) occasionally. If you have any questions about what to feed your pet, consult your veterinarian (兽医).

Feed your pet the suggested amount of food at each meal. Be sure to follow the suggestions on how much your pet needs to eat each day. Feeding too much leads to becoming too fat. 【3】 These could include heart disease, kidney (肾) problems, and so on.

Know what foods you should never give your pet. 【4】 So be sure you know what you can and can’t give your pet before you offer it a treat. For example, while it’s perfectly fine to give you dog small bits of chicken or fish, you should never give them food containing chocolate or garlic, as these can be harmful.

Give your pet fresh water every day. All animals require water to live, although some will need much more than others. No matter what the size of your pet is, make sure that it always has access to fresh, clean water. Check or refill the water once or twice a day and if they drink from a bowl, wash out the bowl every 2 to 3 days. 【5】.

A.It can cause other health problems.

B.Provide your pet with toys if it likes them.

C.Certain foods are harmful to some animals.

D.Provide your pet with a healthy, balanced diet.

E.However, you should give your pet the attention it needs.

F.Make sure you have everything it will need before you bring it home.

G.If they live in water, change the water and clean the container at least once a week.

  • 28、   Stories and movies often make bats into scary creatures that attack in the dark of night. In real life, however, most bats are harmless. A few are even helpful to humans.

Over 800 species or types of bats feast on troublesome insects that damage crops or spread disease. Another 400 or so bat species eat ripe fruit. These bats are very useful because they pollinate (授粉) flowers and disperse (分散) seeds. There are also a few species of larger bats that hunt small animals like mice, fish, and frogs. A very few even drink blood.

The blood drinkers are the three species of vampire bats. However, the vampire bat doesn’t suck blood. Instead, it makes a wound with its sharp teeth and then laps the blood up like a kitty. The animal victim usually sleeps through the entire process. While attacks on humans have occurred, the bats’ common targets are livestock and other animals. Interestingly, the vampire bat may become useful to humans. You see, a chemical in the bat’s saliva (唾液) thins blood and dissolves blood clots (血栓). Studies indicate this could be a great aid in treating people with strokes. In the future, medicine may be made from vampire bats’ saliva.

Some people think bats are birds, but they’re not. They have fur, not feathers. And their babies do not hatch from eggs; they’re born alive. Also, bats have mouths and noses; birds have beaks. Scientists put them in a special mammal group called Chiroptera.

1Most species of bats eat ________.

    A.ripe fruit B.mice and frogs

    C.insects D.blood

2Which of the following is TRUE about blood drinkers?

    A.Vampire bats drink blood directly.

B.The bats’ uncommon targets are human beings.

C.A chemical in the bats is of great benefit treating heart disease.

D.Medicine has been produced from the bats’ saliva

3What is the best title of the passage?

    A.Blood Drinkers B.Vampire Bats

    C.Amazing Bats D.Scary Creatures

  • 29、   I don’t post recognizable pictures of my children on social media. I don’t use their names. I don’t put anything out there that will be really embarrassing for them in later life.

The reason for not posting pictures is that I feel a person’s pictures should be his or her own. It’s not good for me to push my kids out into the wilds of the Web before they’re ready, and understand what it all means.

When the time comes, they’re more than welcome to use social media. But for now, I’m happy to give them a degree of separation until they can make a choice for themselves.

This has meant extra efforts on our part when it comes to making sure that kids don’t get accidentally caught up in the Internet, because the schools where they learn, like so many others up and down the country, post their pictures to social media.

However, my husband thought I was overanxious and asked me a question about its advantages. And having thought about it for while, I’m not 100 percent sure if there are any.

But I could list the disadvantages: the time it takes to manage an account, often by a teacher, meaning extra work; the unavoidable difficulties in safeguarding.

It’s great to see the kids doing their things in schools but my worry is about the use of social media that doesn’t give anything back to the kids, and in many ways, just turns them into another way to gain clicks. I want more than that for them.

1Why is the author unwilling to post her kids’ picture online?

A.To push her kids into the wilds of the Web. B.To avoid being recognized

C.To make herself embarrassed. D.To protect her kids’ privacy.

2What’s most schools’ attitude towards social media?

    A.Supportive. B.Unfavorable. C.Doubtful. D.Worried.

3Why did the author’s husband ask her a question?

A.To prove the author is knowledgeable. B.To show social media has disadvantages.

C.To advise the author to list what she thinks. D.To help the author solve her problem.

4What will happen if schools post kids’ pictures online according to the author?

A.Teachers will take on extra work. B.Parents will have lots of things to do

C.Kids’ safety will be protected effectively. D.Kids will become famous due to clicks.
