26、 While most consumers wish to reduce plastic waste, it’s not an easy goal to achieve. That’s because the cheap and long-lived material is found in almost every daily necessity. Now, an Indonesian-based company has come up with a delicious solution.
David Christian, the co-founder of Evoware, says after investigating various materials, the company settled on seaweed. Unlike corn, commonly used for containers, seaweed does not require water, fertilizers, or large amounts of space. According to Evoware, as much as 40 tons of seaweed can be grown in an area the size of a baseball field. Since Indonesian farmers harvest more seaweed than they can sell, it’s easy to find the material.
The seaweed packaging is safe to consume and can entirely dissolve(溶解)in hot water. While the eatable wrappers(包装纸)may not have any taste, Dubbed Ello Jello, the single-use cups invented by Evoware, are available in four tastes—orange, lychee, peppermint, and green tea. The best part? You can order the powder and make them at home! Though currently(目前) they cannot stand hot liquids, Evoware is working on making heat-resistant(耐热的)cups as well.
While the seaweed products seem like a perfect replacement, it’s a hard-sell in Indonesia. According to Christian, “The awareness and sense of urgency to minimize the use of single-use plastic is still very low. This makes our bioplastic seem unnecessary.” Also a factor is the cost, which is higher than using plastic. However, Evoware believes they can reduce the price once the company moves to mass production. Hopefully, Evoware will succeed in convincing people worldwide that switching to their products will go a long way in protecting our beautiful planet.

28、 It’s 2035. You have a job, a family and you’re about 40 years old. Welcome to our future life.
Getting ready for work, you pause in front of the mirror. “Turn red,” you say. Your shirt changes from sky blue to deep red. Tiny preprogrammed electronics (智能电子元件) are rearranged in your shirt to change its color. Looking into the mirror, you find it hard to believe you’re 40. You look much younger. With amazing advances in medicine, people in your generation may live to be 150 years old. You’re not even middle aged!
As you go into the kitchen and prepare to pour your breakfast cereal(谷物) into a bowl, you hear, “To lose weight, you shouldn’t eat that,” from your shoes. They read the tiny electronic code on the cereal box to find out the nutrition details. You decide to listen to your shoes. “Kitchen, what can I have for breakfast?” A list of possible foods appears on the counter as the kitchen cheeks its food supplies.
“Ready for your trip to space,” you ask your son and daughter. In 2005 only specially-trained astronauts went into space---and very few of them. Today anyone can go to space for daytrips or longer vacations. Your best friend even works in space. Handing your children three strawberries each, you add, “The doctor said you need these for space travel.” Thanks to medical advances, vaccination shots (防疫针) are a thing of the past. Ordinary foods contain specific vaccines(疫苗). With the strawberries in their mouths, the kids head for the front door.
It’s time for you to go to work. Your car checks your fingerprints and unlocks the doors. “My office, autopilot,” you command. Your car drives itself down the road and move smoothly into traffic on the highway. You sit back and unroll your e-newspaper. The latest news downloads and fills the viewer. Looking through the pages, you watch the news as video film rather than read it.
【1】What changes the color of your shirt?
A. The mirror. B. The shirt itself
C. The counter. D. The medicine.
【2】How do the shoes know that you shouldn’t eat the breakfast cereal?

29、 What is success? I am not going to try to explain success. I think a precise meaning is impossible! Is it winning a Gold Medal at the Olympic Games or winning Wimbledon, or being awarded a Nobel Prize? What else? I believe personal success could be anything at all—it does not have to involve public recognition. Who is more successful? A millionaire who is unhappy, or an unnoticed person, who has led a simple, quiet, sincere and happy life? The simplest definition of success, I think, is “to set out to do something and to succeed in doing it”.
The first step on the road to success starts with belief. Believe you can succeed and you will. Achieving success in whatever endeavor (努力) you choose may be the goal of life, because it gives you freedom from worry. Could that be?
Success means different things to every one of us. Some people believe it is measured in financial term; others believe it is helping others rather than helping themselves. However, most people are motivated to a great extent by public recognition. How many people are really happy?
How many people are really doing what they want to with their lives? Incidentally, the ability to imagine makes us different from animals.
Most important of all, I believe success is a matter of personal growth. If every day you are developing or growing just a millimeter, I believe one is successful. Just being a slightly better person each day for me is success. I’ve got a very long way to go them!
Finally, always remember success is a process and is not simply a matter of arriving at a destination. It’s the journey that really matters. Success is what you become in the often very difficult and dangerous journey down the river of life.
【1】What is personal success according to the author?
A.Winning public recognition.
B.Being an unhappy millionaire.
C.Something impossible to define simply.
D.Succeeding in doing what you want.
【2】According to the text, humans are different from animals in .
A.belief B.imagination
C.freedom D.success
【3】What can be the best title for the text?
A.What is success
B.No true success
C.How to be successful
