26、At first look, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore seems familiar to kids. The slowly moving sand, seabirds and miles of greenish-blue water all add up to one thing — the sea. But then, somewhere — maybe on the pile (堆) of sand called Dune Run — the kids stop, realize this is Michigan, a landlocked state in the US, and ask,“How did the sea get here?"
It didn't. This is Lake Michigan. It's a lake — a great one — and the water is fresh, not salty, says Lisa Myers, chief of interpretation (讲解) and visitor services at Sleeping Bear.
“When my family comes here from New England in the north-eastern US, they all have to taste the water", she says. “The area looks like Cape Cod in my home town. You can't believe this isn't the coast."
“Playing on the Dune Run is like being in a huge sandbox,"says Myers. But there's so much more. Help kids see the park through a wider lens (镜片) by walking along the sandy Lake Michigan beach.
“With their feet on the sand and in the water, kids can see there are waves (波浪),” says Myers,"They can watch fish, otters and beavers swimming in the lake."
July and August are best for water play, but winter is magical for kids, adds Myers."They can walk the beaches to see all the ice formations (形态) and crashing waves,”she says.“We offer snowshoe walks in January and February, when kids can look for marks left by animals. And when it' s windy, they can stand on the Dune Run and feel the forces of nature. The kids can run or roll down the hill, too, which is a whole lot of fun."

27、 We don’t know how different our future will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it.
At first we think about human relationship. In the year 2050, we will use computers almost every day. We will be making new friends through the Internet - even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relationships with people won’t be as important as they are today, so we will feel a little lonely.
Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050. For example, they will be used by the children at school to make their learning easier. In addition, there will be much more other machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots which will do the housework for us.
Spending holidays will also be completely different. Traveling to other planets or to the moon will be available for everyone. Means of transport will, of course, change, too. We will be using solar-powered cars, which will be much more environmentally friendly.
We could expect that the faster technological progress would lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn’t true. We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. And, scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases, like cancer or AIDS. Therefore, our surroundings as well as our health will be in a better condition.
Although we can’t predict the exact changes which will be made in the world, we often think about them. We worry about our and our children’s future, we have expectations, hopes as well as fears. But I think we should be rather sanguine about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happen.
【1】Why will people probably feel a little lonely in 2050?
A. Because the number of people will become much smaller.
B. Because people won’t like making friends with each other.
C. Because there will be less face-to-face communication
D. Because people won’t communicate with each other much often.
【2】According to the passage, which of the following will happen in 2050?
A. It won’t be difficult for people to travel to other planets.
B. The way of spending holidays will be the same as that of today.
C. The relationship between people will be more important than today.
D. Our environment will be much more polluted with a growing number of cars.
【3】The underlined word “sanguine” in the last paragraph probably means ________.
A. disappointed B. surprised
C. curious D. optimistic
【4】What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. What our life will be like in the year 2050.
B. How people will communicate in the year 2050.
C. What high technology will appear in the year 2050.
D. How people will travel and spend their holiday in the year 2050.
28、Laptop computers are popular all over the world. People use them on trains and airplanes, in airports and hotels. These laptops connect people to their workplace. In the United States today, laptops also connect students to their classrooms.
Westlake College in Virginia will start a laptop computer program that allows students to do schoolwork anywhere they want. Within five years, each of the 1500 students at the college will receive a laptop. The laptops are part of a $10 million computer program at Westlake, a 110-year-old college. The students with laptops will also have access to the Internet. In addition, they will be able to use e-mail to “peak” with their teachers, their classmates, and their families. However, the most important part of the laptop program is that students will be able to use computers without going to computer labs. They can work with it at home, in a fast-food restaurant or under the trees—anywhere at all!
Because of the many changes in computer technology, laptop use in higher education, such as colleges and universities, is workable. As laptops become more powerful, they become more similar to desktop computers. In addition, the portable computers can connect students to not only the Internet, but also libraries and other resources. State higher-education officials are studying how laptops can help students. State officials are also testing laptop programs at other universities, too.
At Westlake College, more than 60 percent of the staff use computers. The laptops will allow all teachers to use computers in their lessons. As one Westlake teacher said, “Here we are in the middle of Virginia and we’re giving students a window on the world. They can see everything and do everything.”

29、 Edgar Snow was the American journalist who, risking his life, made it to the northern part of Shaanxi Province to interview Mao Zedong.
As a young boy, Snow, who might have been influenced by Mark Twain’s works, was very interested in travel and adventure. After reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Life on the Mississippi, 17-year-old Snow then drove a T-type tourist car with several of his young playmates, heading for California, 3,000 kilometers away from his home state, Missouri.
Three months later, when he had spent all his five dollars, he had to climb onto slow-going trains. With the rumbling (隆隆作响) of the train, he enjoyed more than half of America’s splendid views. On February 15, 1928, Snow decided to board Thunder, a ship leaving for the Far East, without informing his family, setting out to realize his dream of touring the world.
In 1958 or 30 years later, Snow explained his thought more clearly in his book Become a Journey: “I was 22 that year and made some money then, which was enough for me to be on a one-year adventurous tour of the world if I was to be thrifty (节约的).”
Clearly this young man’s Far East travel was without any great dream at first. It was only his travel experiences, especially his visit to the northern part of Shaanxi Province years ago that determined his lifetime cause, thus closely connecting his life with China.
