二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、When 12-year-old Taylor Smith wrote a special letter to herself last spring, to be read in 10 years’ time, she didn’t know it would be opened before even a year had passed— and that it wouldn’t be her eyes reading the words.

“She had told me that she had written a letter to herself, and that she was excited that she was going to open it when she was older,”said Taylor’s  mother, Mary Ellen Smith.

Instead, it was opened by Taylor’s parents after she died last spring. They posted the letter to Facebook, hoping it would inspire others.

It has. “We’ve gotten letters from lots of parents who have said it has encouraged them to love their kids and love each other,” said Mary Ellen Smith.

In the letter, Taylor congratulated herself on graduating from high school and asked, “Are you in college?”

She also wanted to know if she had been on a plane yet and if the show “Doctor Who” was still on the air.

Taylor also had some words for her future kids. After considering the idea of selling her iPad and getting an iPad mini instead, she told her future self to mention to her kids that “We’re older than the tablet.” She included a drawing of an iPad for them to see.

Taylor died suddenly of pneumonia (肺炎), leaving behind both her parents and an older brother.

“I just want people to know just what an awesome, awesome person she was,” her father, Tim Smith said.

Her mother said, “I can’t bring her back, but I’m so grateful people have been inspired by her story.”

Taylor’s father read the closing g words of her letter, which said, “It’s been years since I wrote this. Stuff has happened, good and bad. That’s just how life works, and you have to go with it.”

  • 22、   If students followed a typical academic plan over the course of the year, it is precisely the opposite of what science recommends for lasting learning—one topic was probably limited to one week and another to the next. It is what it sounds like—leaving time between practice sessions for the same material. You might call it deliberate not-practicing between periods of deliberate practice. Space between practice sessions creates the hardness that improves learning.

Iowa State researchers read people lists of words, and then asked for each list to be recited back either right away, after fifteen seconds of practicing, or after fifteen seconds of doing very simple math problems that prevented practicing. The subjects who were allowed to reproduce the lists right after hearing them did the best. Those who had fifteen seconds to practice before reciting came in second. The group distracted with math problems finished last. Later, when everyone thought they were finished, they were all surprised with a sudden quiz: write down every word you can recall from the lists. Suddenly the worst group became the best.

Short-term practicing gave purely short-term benefits. Struggling to hold on to information and then recall it had helped the group distracted by math problems transfer the information from short-term to long-term memory. The group with more and immediate practicing opportunity recalled nearly nothing on the sudden quiz. Repetition, it turned out, was less important than struggle.

It isn’t bad to get an answer right while studying. Progress just should not happen too quickly. For a given amount of material, learning is most efficient in the long run when it is really inefficient in the short run. If you are doing too well when you test yourself, the simple solution is to wait longer before practicing the same material again, so that the test will be more difficult when you do. Frustration is not a sign that you are not learning, but ease is.

【1】According to the science recommendation, to acquire lasting learning, we should ________.

    A.follow a typical academic plan

B.limit the learning process within one week

C.add not-practicing space between two learning sessions

    D.create more hardness

【2】In Iowa State research, which group became the best finally?

A.Those who recited the lists right away.

B.Those who had fifteen seconds of practicing.

C.Those who finished the quiz last.

D.Those who were distracted by math problems.

【3】What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

    A.Short- term memory is inefficient.

B.Struggling is helpful to short-term memory.

C.Making progress too quickly may not be a good sign.

D.Getting frustrated means you are learning.

【4】This passage mainly talks about ________.

    A.research methods

    B.learning strategies

    C.math skills

    D.academic plans

  • 23、   John Perry decided it was time to go home. It had been a perfect day. He had filled his bag with all sorts of seashells, enough to study for a month. The island had been a good place to find shell but mow the sun was going down, he must leave before it got dark. He came to the sand reef that connected the island and the shore of the mainland. He stopped for a moment to enjoy the sunset on the ocean water. Then he began to walk along the sand reef toward the shore.

He hurried on. Then, suddenly he stepped into the water. Before he knew what had happened, he dropped down and down. The water was covering his head. He rose to the top of the water, struggling to get back on to the dry sand, surprised. To his horror he saw long grey sharks there in the sea, but where was the sand reef? What had happened to it?

He began to walk back toward the island. While he had searched for shells on the island, the strong ocean waves had washed a large part of the sand reef away. He did not know much about Sharks/but he was a good swimmer. He tried to remember what he had read about sharks. Did sharks find their food by smelling it? If they did, it meant they looked for food at all times, even during the night,

Most of the night he lay down and looked up at the stars thinking. He thought of the people in the village. He was their doctor, the only doctor in the village felt good to be needed. He thought of wood for a fire, wood to signal for help, but there was no wood. At last he thought of sleep. He slept until the sun rose.

The sharks were there because the fish were there. The same waves that had washed the sand reef away had somehow pushed large schools of fish into the area. He watched the sharks kill.

He looked at the sea, if he swam to shore, he would be in the water 5,6 minutes. A lot could happen during that time. A wind blew across the water. Small waves rushed across the top and stopped him from seeing the bottom. He hoped the wind would stop. Somehow, clear water seemed less dangerous.

But first, he looked all around before he took off all his clothes He kept only his belt and his small knife. He silently slipped into the water. He went deep down and looked around. He was about to rise to the top and start swimming when he saw a long grey body below him. He kicked himself up to the top and struggled to the sand.

He stood up and looked around again. How could he make the sharks move out to sea? He put the knife against his leg and cut deep into the flesh, blood running out. He caught it on his white shirt. When the shirt was red and wet, he tied some cloths around his leg to stop the flow of blood. He tied a long piece of cloth to the shirt, then he threw the shirt into the water and pulled it with a piece of cloth.

The sharks smelled the blood; they came racing toward the shirt. He was leading then away from shore. Suddenly he dropped the cloth turned toward shore and ran as fast as he could He jumped into the water and swam. He kicked and shouted as loud as he could. He touched the shore with his fingers and pulled himself up the stones.

The shark was excited by the smell of blood and the chase went after him; its great body crushed against the stones. The other sharks jumped on it The end came quickly as the sharks’ blood turned the water red. The injured shark was eaten alive as it tried to escape.

Perry slowly got to his feet. So, he said, “you did not get me.”

He looked down at the sharks still eating even though they were full of food.

1What happened to the sand reef while John Perry was searching for seashells?

B.It was covered by the rising tide of the ocean.

C.It fell down hen sharks were running after fishes around

D.It was washed away by the ocean waves created by the sharks.

2What made him think he was important to the villagers?

    A.His seashells. B.His swimming skill.

    C.His bravery. D.His occupation.

3Why didn't he choose to escape in the night?

A.Darkness made no difference to sharks at all.

B.Darkness would increase the risk of his behavior.

C.Sharks could still see him clearly in the darkness

D.Sharks seldom attacked humans during the daytime.

4Where should the sentence "He decided to swim." be put in the passage?

  • 24、   The 1972 Hawaii episodes opened the fourth season of The Brady Bunch, and they have become a beloved part of pop culture. Here are the top places where the Hawaii episodes of The Brady Bunch were filmed.

    Sheraton Waikiki

Location: 2255 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96815

The entrance to the Sheraton Waikiki has not changed all that much. All of its original charm remains. You can even book an ocean-view room like the Brady family would have enjoyed. Be sure to also check out the breathtaking infinity pool.

    Halona Blowhole Lookout

    Location: 8483 Highway 72, Honolulu, Hawaii 96825

During their tour of Hawaii, the Bradys looked in the wonder at the still-active Halona Blowhole. It's one of Hawaii's many natural wonders. The rock formation and blowhole shoots ocean water spray high into the air when the waves roll in.

Although there are no active volcanoes on Oahu now, their effects on the island linger. The best time to come here is when winds are strong and the tide is high.

View Rabbit Island from Makapu'u Beach Park

    Location:41-095 Kalanianaole Highway, Makapu'u Point, Hawaii 96795

The Brady girls enjoyed the view of Rabbit Island. Although it's referred to by its nickname in the episodes, the real name of Rabbit Island is Manana Island. It got its nickname because many rabbits used to inhabit the area. It's now an uninhabited islet on the eastern end of Oahu.

Hula dancing on the Ocean Lawn of the Royal Hawaiian

Location: 2259 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii 96815

It's believed that the Brady ladies enjoyed their hula lesson on the Ocean Lawn of the Royal Hawaiian, a luxury collection resort. The ocean Lawn is a great place for a selfie because you can see the ocean, Diamond Head and other beautiful sights in the background.

The Royal Hawaiian does offer hula lessons to guests, but they aren't held on the Ocean Lawn. If you and your family decide to try hula dancing, try not to get your hula skirts mixed up like Alice and Cindy did!
