二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   In the past year I have lost two of the people I loved most. One was my little sister, the other a best friend of 30 years. I miss them. They are still in my heart, and there they’ll remain.

Sadly, when I moved to another city eight years ago, I didn't get to see them as much as I wanted to. Something always seemed to get in my way — work, my dogs and, yes, the money to fly up for regular visits. I was too late to whisper in their car what they meant to me and to thank them for the joy they gave me. And this is something I regret. But instead of beating myself up, I’d rather learn from this hardest of lessons.

I’ve determined to put those I love before everything from now on — to make keeping in contact a priority(优先)and to enjoy time with them while they are here. In fact, I have decided I am going to take something positive from their loss and enjoy everything more. To not put anything off I can do straight away. To enjoy everything I own. Why? It’s as John Lennon said, “Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans.” After the deaths of my loved ones, I watched as their families dealt with what to do with their possessions(财产). It reminded me of sorting out my mother's things following her death, and the sadness that brought me.

I’ve given up trying to “get ahead” in life; now my priority is myself and the people and things that make me delighted. And so, this week I will go to Italy to watch my favorite show -- a joyous event that I won’t be able to enjoy “some day in the future”. And all those pretty dresses I don’t wear because they cost too much to clean will be worn.

And I am going to remind those I love that this is the case, not just in writing but face to face and as often as I can, because leaving anything for later is taking the risk that later may never arrive.

【1】What lesson did the author learn from the death of her best love?

A.We cannot bear the loss of our beloved ones.

B.Love remains with the loss of those we love.

C.We should enjoy the moment with loved ones.

D.We should make preparations for bad endings in life.

【2】What does the underlined phrase “beating myself up” in Paragraph 2 mean?

A.Pushing myself hard out of regret.

    B.Feeling hopeless and desperate.

    C.Beating myself heavily.

    D.Blaming myself for what happened.

【3】The author would do the followings EXCEPT         .

A.showing concern for her family and friends

B.working on weekends instead of attending the show she is eager for

C.attending a close friend’s wedding no matter how much the flight ticket costs

D.wearing beautiful clothes which are costly to clean

  • 27、   Far away, in a forest outside Oslo, Norway, 1,000 newly planted trees are growing. Ninety-nine years from now, the full-size trees will be cut down and used to make paper. The paper will be used to make copies of an unusual book. The book will have 100 authors finish it over the course of 100 years. Exactly what's inside the book will remain secret until 2114.

The forest and the book are part of the Future Library. Scottish artist Katie Paterson began the project last year. “We're asking one writer a year to give a story,” Paterson said. The subject, the style, the kind, and the length are up to the author. However, Paterson has two important rules. The first is that each author has one year to write the story. The second is that they mustn't publish it in any form.

What's the point of asking authors to write stories that readers alive today will never get to enjoy? For Paterson, the Future Library is about letting people think about the future. She said, “It's about developing an artwork that's not just for now but for a future generation.”

Paterson got the idea for the project while drawing tree rings in a notebook. “I make a quick connection(关联)between the rings and paper, chapters(篇章), and a book,” she said. Paterson wondered if she could grow “a kind of future forest that would become a small library of books”.

The idea seemed so difficult that she set it aside. But a few years later, Paterson had the opportunity to take part in a programme called Slow Space. Organizers were looking for amazing projects designed to unfold(展现) over time. Paterson's was one of the three chosen programmes.

    【1】The trees were planted to_______.

    A.build a future library

B.make a book in the future

    C.help protect the environment

    D.encourage people to write stories

【2】What can we know about that unusual book?

    A.It will have 100 stories.

    B.It will not be published.

C.No one is allowed to copy it.

D.Its stories are only about the future.

【3】What is Paragraph 4 mainly about?

    A.Why Paterson started the project.

    B.The importance of Paterson's project.

C.What the Future Library will be used for.

D.How Paterson got the idea for the project.

【4】Organizers of Slow Space probably think Paterson's project is_______.

    A.difficult

    B.useless

    C.wonderful

    D.strange

  • 28、Nao, the first robot able to show feelings, has been created by a European research team. When Nao is sad, he lowers his head and looks down. When he’s happy, he raises his arms for a hug. Nothing is out of the ordinary, except that Nao is a robot.

“We’re modeling the first years of life,” says Lola Canamero, a computer scientist at the University of Hertforshire. “The feelings are shown through physical gestures and body movements rather than facial or verbal(言语的) expressions.”

In the future, says the scientist, robots are likely to act as companions, provide support for old people, and help people shop online. In such uses, the display of feeling will be important in making the interactions(交往) more natural and comfortable.

Nao has been programmed to copy the emotional skills of a one-year-old child. It can memorize faces, and knows the basic rules of good and bad. Based on these it can decide how to react to what is going on. The actions going with each feeling are pre-programmed, but Nao decides for itself when to display them.

Nao is also programmed to have different personalities. A more independent robot is less likely to call for help when exploring a room, while a more fearful robot will show distress if it finds something in the room that may be harmful.

Canamero’s team will take its emotional programming forward into medical applications. Part of the project will look at ways to use robots in hospitals to support the roles of doctors, nurses and parents. Children might find that a small, friendly-looking robot that can understand their emotional states makes them less anxious. “We want to explore different roles—the robots will help the children to understand their treatment and explain what they have to do. We want to help the children to control their anxiety.” she says.

【1】What can we learn from the text?

A.Scientists worked on facial and spoken expressions to create Nao’s emotions.

B.The time when Nao displays feelings has been pre-programmed.

C.Emotional programming is used in medicine production.

D.Robots with emotional skills can help children feel more comfortable.

    【2】According to the text, Nao_______.

A.displays different feelings in different situations

B.is able to imitate adult emotional displays

    C.can remember people’s feelings

    D.learns emotions from facial expressions

【3】What does the underlined word “distress” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?

    A.Courage.

    B.Anxiety.

    C.Anger.

    D.Satisfaction.

【4】What is the text mainly about?

A.The relationship between humans and robots.

B.The roles that robots play in different fields.

C.The first robot able to show feelings.

    D.The long history of robots.

  • 29、An Olympic Village is a place that houses Olympic competitors. It is a place where they prepare for what might be the most important moment in their life. But we want to know more about this mysterious (神秘的) place: What really happens in the village?

We asked swimmer Natalie Coughlin, a three-time Olympian and 12-time medalist. She says, “People think it’s a lot more attractive and interesting than it is. It isn’t. It’s like a huge college campus, including a bank, a salon, a post office, and a huge cafeteria — except that everyone is anxious, getting ready for their biggest event under unbelievably high pressure.”

But some other Olympians look differently at their campus. “It’s like the first day of college,” water polo player Tony Azevedo says. “You’re super excited. Everyone’s meeting people and trying to socialize with others.”

Coughlin says the best spot to be in the village is the cafeteria. Not only does it provide a place to talk with the rest of the athletes from your country, but it’s a great chance for people-watching. One of her favorite games was to tell what sport someone in front of her took based on their body type.

Living in the same village means athletes run into one another all the time. Coughlin shares this story: While in London in 2012, at one point applause (欢呼) broke out at the arrival of someone. Coughlin thought it was one of the British royals, but it was Jamaica’s Usain Bolt (the world’s greatest runner alive). Runner Allyson Felix — a winner of six gold Olympic medals — has also had her run-ins. In 2008, she came across the world-famous U.S. men’s basketball team, including Anthony, Bryant, Wade and other top players.

It’s “a pretty wild scene, the biggest melting pot — a place where large numbers of people, ideas, and cultures are mixed together— you’ve been in,” said swimmer Eric Shanteau. Felix agrees, saying, “You get to meet people from other countries that you wouldn’t even come into contact with. To me that’s the coolest thing.”

【1】The purpose of the first paragraph is to ______.

    A.provide examples

    B.present research findings

    C.introduce the topic

    D.give suggestions

【2】What does Coughlin say about the Olympic villagers?

    A.They are very nervous.

    B.They like to make friends.

C.They enjoy the village very much.

D.They spend most of their time relaxing.

【3】What did Coughlin often do at the cafeteria in the Olympic Village?

A.She often watched other people play games there.

B.She often spent time with athletes from other countries.

C.She often gave fitness advice to others according to their body features.

    D.She often tried guessing a person’s sport.

【4】What do both Coughlin and Felix tell us in Paragraph 5?

    A.Why Olympians are so popular.

B.How they met superstars in the village.

C.Why the Olympic Village is mysterious.

D.How they communicated with other players.

【5】What impresses Felix most in the Olympic Village?

A.Spending time with some old foreign friends.

B.The positive influence of the Olympic spirit.

C.Mixing with people from around the world.

D.The competitive atmosphere in the village.
