二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Technology is having an impact on every sport, from individual sports such as swimming to team sports as diverse as soccer and sailing. Those with access to the best technologies are playing faster and smarter.

The main technological change in recent years has been through data collection and analysis. Data is collected by underwater cameras, tidal sensors (传感器), sensors worn by athletes, video analysis, and in many other ways. The data is then fed through computer software and analyzed by team managers, sports scientists, coaches, and players.

It is not only about improving performance, but also reducing injury and illness. Below are just a few examples.

In cycling, bike sensors measure speed, power, and pedal turns, which are then sent to the cyclist’s glasses. Cyclists can see important information without having to look away from the track. If they need to hit a specific time in their training, they can see how they are doing and speed up if required.

A British company, which usually services the aerospace and defence industries, has worked to enable British wheelchair athletes to achieve a 20 percent increase in the ability to gain speed. Not only are they faster, but the positional changes also reduce injury to players’ shoulders and elbows. For other disabled athletes, 3D-printed prosthetic limbs (四肢) are more lightweight, delivering improved power output.

More records are falling in swimming than those in any other sports, and technology is playing a huge role in this. At the University of Sheffield in England, naval research methods are being used in a pool to produce 3D computer simulations of swimmers. Small changes in swimmers’ positioning of their limbs, hands, or how far their head comes out of the water can cause a large impact on speed. These are then analyzed to develop better swimming styles for swimmers.

In boxing, software is available to some teams which provides detailed analysis of their competitors’ fight styles, and thus their threats and opportunities when facing a particular boxer. This helps them work on their strategies.

Some people argue that some of these technological advances go too far. They believe that they are a form of cheating because they give athletes an increased advantage that is better than their natural ability. It is yet up to the governing bodies of different sports to decide how far each technology can go.

【1】What can we learn about technology in sports?

A.The data is collected by sports scientists.

B.Technologies have no impact on team sports.

C.The data is analyzed by people relevant to sports.

D.Software provides analysis of boxers’ own fight styles.

【2】What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?

A.Cyclists can see important information through technology.

B.3D-printed prosthetic limbs are widely used among disabled athletes.

C.The British company services the aerospace industries with technology.

D.Disabled athletes can perform better and be less injured by using technology.

【3】What is the author’s attitude towards the impact of technological advances on sports?

    A.Objective.

    B.Favorable.

    C.Opposed.

    D.Indifferent.

  • 27、   Today it's an important milestone in the IT world. Microsoft officially stops Windows 7 support service on the 14th of January. It means that millions of Windows 7 users all over the world won't get security updates any longer to keep their PCs safe. The computers running Windows 7 will still function tomorrow but they will be more likely to fall victim to viruses.

The age of Windows 7 has come to its end and worldwide users are urged to upgrade their operating system Windows 10. Microsoft advises users to buy new computers and move all content there as new devices work faster and they are more lightweight and secure. Alternatively, users can back up their files and pay £ 120 for the official Windows 10 license on their old devices.

The company's offer to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free ended a long time ago, however, there's a loophole (漏洞) and you can still switch your PC to the latest operating system free of charge. Microsoft seems to know about it but doesn't want to officially announce this to earn money and not to annoy people who paid for the updating.

If you don't want to pay money, follow these tips. Before upgrading, don't forget to back up your files on external (外部的) hard drives or via other storage services.

    1. Access the Windows Media Creation Tool and update your operating system to the latest version of Windows.

    2. Enter your official key of Windows 7 or Windows 8.

    3. Follow the steps.

    4. After the upgrading, go to Update & Security and check your Windows 10 license.

    5. Move all your content from backup and run Windows 10 free of charge.

【1】What will happen if a computer goes on running Windows 7?

    A.It will break down.

B.It will immediately be attacked by viruses.

C.It will be insecure to operate.

D.It will be upgraded to Windows 10.

【2】Which of the following is true according to the text?

A.Microsoft still offers official updating service for free.

B.Users of Windows 7 are advised to pay £120 for a new computer.

C.Sore people are taking advantage of the loophole to make money.

D.Users can operate Windows 10 on their old devices if they have the official Windows 10 license.

【3】What is advised to be done before upgrading?

    A.Backing up your files.

    B.Checking your Windows 10 license.

C.Deleting all the files on your old PC.

D.Moving all the content to your new computer.

  • 28、When it comes to global warming, we know that the real problem is not just fossil fuels — it is the logic of endless growth that is built into our economic system. If we don't keep the global economy growing by at least 3% per year, it will get into crisis. That means we have to double the size of the economy every 20 years, just to stay afloat. It doesn't take much to realise that this need for fast growth makes little sense given the limits of our planet.

Rapid climate change is the most obvious symptom of this contradiction, but we're also seeing it in the form of deforestation (滥伐森林) and mass extinction, with species dying as a result of the loss of their habitats. It was unthinkable to say this even 10 years ago.

The question is what to do about it. How can we redesign the global economy to bring it in line with the principles of ecology? The most obvious answer is to stop using GDP to measure economic progress and replace it with a more thoughtful measure-one that accounts for the ecological and social impact of economic activity. Outstanding economists like Nobel Prize winner Joseph Stiglitz have been calling for such changes for years and it's time we listened.

But replacing GDP is only the first step. While it might help refocus economic policies on what really matters, it doesn't address the main driver of growth: debt. Debt is the reason that the economy has to grow in the first place. Because debt always comes with interest, it grows fast — so if a person, a business, or a country wants to pay down debt over the long term, they have to grow enough to at least match the growth of their debt. Without growth, debt piles up and eventually lead to an economic crisis.

【1】What does rapid climate change mainly result from?

    A.The limits of our planet.

    B.Mass extinction of species.

    C.Logic of growth in economy.

D.The loss of some species' habitats.

【2】What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 1 refer to?

    A.Endless growth.

    B.The real problem.

    C.Global warming.

    D.The global economy.

【3】What does Joseph Stiglitz suggest to make the global economy friendly to ecology?

    A.Redesigning the principles of ecology.

B.Concentrating more on saving natural resources.

C.Stopping using GDP to measure economy progress.

D.Using a new measure focusing on economic activity.

【4】What does the author think of debt?

    A.It drives economy to grow.

    B.It helps avoid economic crisis.

C.It grows faster than the interest does.

D.It piles up when good growth of economy happens.

  • 29、The first full choir rehearsal of the school year took place in the school hall. All the students joined together to sing. I watched as my elder sister and her grade came in and took their places next to us on the stage. Meanwhile, I could hear laughing. Some students were pointing at a girl standing next to my sister. I had never seen this girl before. A girl whispered in my ear,“Did you know she’s wearing diapers(纸尿裤)?”

After school that evening, I asked my sister about the girl I had seen. She told me her name was Theresa and that she was a very nice girl. “Why were those kids being mean to her?” I asked. “Because they are stupid,” she said.

One day, I was walking home from school when I heard voices behind me. “There is the little idiot’s(白痴的) sister. Does your sister wet her pants too? I walked a little faster and then I felt a stone hit me in the back. When I got home, I ran down to my sister’s room.

I pushed my way into her room, screaming at her. “Why do you have to be that girl’s friend?  I don’t see anyone else being nice to her. Janelle yelled back, “Because she is a wonderful person and she is dying!” I will remember those words as long as I live. Theresa wet her pants because she had an illness which was killing her. My sister was the only one nice enough to be her friend and stick up for her. A few months later, Theresa passed away.

I felt proud that Janelle was my sister. Throughout the years I watched her, and she always made friends with everyone. It didn’t matter if they were fat, thin, brilliant or not. She never left anyone feeling isolated or alone. It was she who changed me and taught me to never look at anyone in the same way again.

【1】Why did other students make fun of Theresa?

    A. Because she was dying very soon.

    B. Because she was not good at singing.

    C. Because she behaved in an unusual way.

    D. Because she was usually dressed poorly.

【2】How did the author feel at first when she knew her sister was Theresa’s friend?

    A. Moved B. Annoyed

    C. Interested   D. Anxious

【3】What was the turning point of the story?

    A. Janelle became a friend of Theresa.

    B. Theresa suffered from a serious illness.

    C. The author lost her temper to her classmates.

    D. The author was told the truth about Theresa.

【4】What is the message conveyed in the story?

    A. We shouldn’t look at anyone shallowly.

    B. Making friends teaches us more things.

    C. Disadvantaged people need our sympathy.

    D. Understanding is important among friends.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in NO MORE THAN 60 WORDS. Use your own words as far as possible.

    The lost art of listening

Do you think you’re a good listener? Chances are that you do. But studies show that most people seriously overestimate their ability to listen. The truth is we are generally not good at listening, and our listening comprehension declines as we age.

This was proven by Dr. Ralph Nichols, who conducted a simple experiment to test students’ listening skills. He had some Minnesota teachers stop what they were doing mid-class, and then asked students to describe what their teachers had been talking about. While older kids with more developed brains, are usually assumed to be better listeners, the results, however, showed otherwise: While 90 percent of first-and second-graders gave correct responses, this percentage dropped rapidly as the students got older.

One reason for our poor listening concerns the speed at which we think. The adult brain can process up to around 400 words per minute, more than three times faster than the speed an average person speaks. This means we can easily think about something else while someone is talking to us, allowing our mind to wander or get sidetracked. The younger students in Dr. Nichols’s experiment were better listeners partly because their brains were less developed — they lacked the extra brain power to be distracted.

Another factor that contributes to our poor listening is our ever-decreasing attention span. According to a Mircrosoft study, the age of smartphones has had a negative impact here. In 2000 — around the time the mobile revolution began — the average human attention span was 12 seconds; by 2013, it had fallen to 8 seconds. Even a goldfish — with an average attention span of 9 seconds — can hold a thought for longer!

More and more people now realize that listening is a skill that can be developed through practice. Learning to observe a speaker’s body language and emotions, for example, can improve our active listening. Even the simple act of note-taking or making eye contact can help us stay focused while listening.
