一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Studying at a girl’s school, we seldom see boys. But in September, we got a chance to dance and talk with boys. In the morning, all of the girls discussed this activity.

But when the boys came, we stopped immediately. After a welcome speech, the first activity took place: find a boy partner and learn five things about each other. 1. At first, the situation was so embarrassing that nobody moved. Gradually, some people started talking. “Would you like to be my partner?” the boy next to me said. “Sure,” I replied. We stood together and asked each other questions like “what’s your name?” After we took the first step, the rest was easier. 2. 让我惊讶的是,我们有许多共同点。We both like British singer Ed Sheeran. Also, English is our favorite subject. The most exciting part is dancing. The teacher taught boys and girls separately (分别). We all smiled and studied hard. 3. The lesson didn’t last long, as we had to practice with our partners. I felt my heart beating so fast. 4. 老实说,这是我第一次握一个男孩的手。I made many mistakes even with the simplest steps, but my partner never blamed (责怪) me. My palms (手心) got sweaty (出汗的). My partner said, “Don’t be nervous. I will lead you.” His palms were big and warm. I began to calm down and enjoy dancing. 5. At the dance, we built good relationships with the boys and our teachers encouraged us to do so. I really like this type of activity.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   What will you do if you come across an English word or phrase you don't know? You'd probably look it up in the dictionary, wouldn't you? This, however, was not the case. Although English has a history of over 2,500 years, the first English dictionary didn't appear until the 17th century.

During the 16th century, Europe saw rich developments in science, medicine and arts. People had to "invent" words to express new ideas. Many new English words were borrowed from foreign language. There was also a renewed interest in ancient languages. Some new English words had roots(根)in languages like Latin and Hebrew.

The general public, however, had difficulty understanding these new words. At that time few girls would go to school. Only rich parents were able to afford professional teachers. Robert Cawdrey, an English schoolteacher, wanted to help. In 1604, he published A Table Alphabetical in London. Cawdrey hoped his dictionary would be able to help more people learn to read and write properly.

But Cawdrey's dictionary was not very dependable. The fist edition had only 120 pages. There were only 2,543 words in it. As Cawdrey's focus was on words "hard for the general public," many common words were not included. And for many words, the explanations(解释)were unclear. Take "loaf" as an example. It explained, "A piece of bread." While in today's dictionary, it reads, "A shaped mass of baked bread that is usually sliced before eating." For some words, Cawdrey used only one word to explain each of them. This made A Table Alphabetical more like a book of synonyms(同义词)than a real dictionary. While readers could check the spelling of some words using the book, they had no way of finding out what these words actually meant.

Although Cawdrey's dictionary had many problems, it was quite popular. As the saying goes, ________." In the year of 1604, people finally had something to help them read more easily!

1According to the article, the first English dictionary came out in ________.

    A.the early 16th century B.the late 16th century

    C.the early 17th century D.the late 17th century

2Robert Cawdrey published A Table Alphabetical in order to ________.

A.help more girls to be able to go to school

B.help people to understand the new English words

C.help his own students to read and write words properly

D.help people to become interested in learning new things

3Paragraph 4 is mainly about the ________ of Cawdrey's dictionary.

    A.look B.history C.popularity D.disadvantage

4Which of the following is the most suitable(适合的)in the blank in the last paragraph?

    A.Practice makes perfect. B.Where there's life, there's hope.

C.It's better to give than to receive. D.Half a loaf is better than no bread.

  • 25、One day a man found a cocoon(蚕) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly. Suddenly, a small opening appeared and the butterfly made its great effort(努力) to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.(那个蛹好象忘记了它该怎样做, 也好象停止了挣扎).

So the man decided to help the butterfly. He cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly would come out easily. But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.

The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become larger and be able to fly. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling(爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.

The man was in his kindness, but he didn’t understand the nature rules. Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid(液体) from its body must be forced into its wings, and then would be ready for flying. It must have a hard struggle(拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any difficulties, it would make us fail. We would not be as strong as we could have been, we could never fly.

1What was the butterfly doing at the beginning of the story?

    A. It was trying to make a cocoon for it self.

    B. It was crawling around quietly on the ground.

    C. It was flying among the trees in the forest.

    D. It was struggling to get out of its cocoon.

    B. help the butterfly come out easily

    C. kill the butterfly

    D. stop the butterfly growing bigger

3What do you think of the man?

    A. Patient but cruel B. Careful and wise

    C. Kind but unwise     D. Brave and funny

4What does the last paragraph (段落) tell us?

    A. Struggles are sometimes necessary in our life.

  • 28、   It is a story. But I think this story will warm you better than a coffee 1 a cold winter day.

One day, my friend and I entered a little coffee house and 2order two cups of coffee. While we were waiting, two young men came in and began to order, “Five cups of coffee, please. Two of them for us and three suspended.” They paid for their order, took the two and left. I asked my friend, “What are those ‘suspended’ coffees?” Instead 3 giving me the answer, he told me 4wait and see.

Some more people entered. Two girls asked for one coffee each, paid, and went away. The next order was for seven coffees and it 5make by three lawyers—three for them and four “suspended”. While I still wondered 6the “suspended” coffees were, I enjoyed the sunny weather and the beautiful view towards the square in front of the cafe. 7sudden a man dressed in old clothes who looked like a beggar came in through the door and kindly asked, “Do you have 8 suspended coffee?”

At that moment, I understood the meaning of the suspended coffees. It’s simple—people pay the coffee in advance for someone who can’t afford it. The9traditional with the suspended coffees started in Italy, but it has spread all over the world and in some places you can order not only a suspended coffee, 10also a sandwich or a whole meal.
