26、When I began to move to Auckland to study the law, my mother was a little worried about the uncertainty of living in a place that was so different from India, where we lived. She worried about the shortage of jobs and the cultural differences that I would face.
I came to New Zealand in July 2013. I found the people were very nice and supportive. Soon after I arrived, I realized the importance of getting a part time job to make a living.
Deciding to do this on my own, I spent a whole day going from door to door for a job. However, I received a little or no reply. This became my daily activity after college for a few weeks.
One afternoon, I walked into a building to ask if there were any job chances. The people there were very surprised, and advised me not to continue my job search in that way. As I was about to leave, a secretary in the building came up to me and encouraged me to stay confident. He then offered to take me to the Royal Oak area to search for a job.
Along the way, I realized I had run out of copies of my resume (简历). The man stopped at his friend’s office to make me 15 extra copies. He also gave me tips on dressing and speaking. I handed out my resume and went home. The following day, I received a call from a store in Royal Oak offering me a job.

28、在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺。每空格限填一词,首字母已给)
How often do you let other people’s nonsense(胡说) change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, impolite waiter, rude boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day?
One day I was in a taxi and we headed for the airport. We were driving when suddenly a black car drove out of a parking space r【1】 in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brake, slide sideways, and at the very last moment our car stopped and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car looked around and started shouting at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really f【2】. So I asked, “Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!” This is my taxi driver taught me what I now call “The Law of the Garbage Truck(垃圾车)”.
He e【3】 that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally: Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Believe me. You’ll be happier. Don’t take their garbage and s【4】 it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. Life’s too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. The mark of your success is how quickly you can refocus on what’s i【5】 in your life. Roy Baumeister, a psychology researcher from Florida State University, found in his r【6】 that you remember bad things more often than good things in your life. You store the bad memories more easily, and you recall them more frequently.
So, Love the people who treat you right. Ignore the o【7】 who don’t. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
