  • 22、   In the United States and Canada, there are over 6,000 museums, almost twice as many as there were 25 years ago. However, they have changed a lot. They are no longer places where one “should” go—they are places to enjoy.

At a science museum in Canada, you can feel your hair stand on end as harmless electricity passes through your body. At the Children′s Museum in New York, you can play an African drum. There are no “Do Not Touch” signs in some other museums in the USA.

More and more museum directors(馆长) have realized that people learn best when they can become part of what they are seeing. In many science museums, the visitors are encouraged to touch, listen, and experiment so as to find scientific rules for themselves.

The old museums have been changing and the government is encouraging the building of new, modern museums. One cause of all these changes is the growing number of young people in the population. They see things in a new and different way. They want art that they can take part in. The same is true of science and history.

【1】There were about ________ museums in America and Canada 25 years ago.

    A.3,000

    B.4,000

  • 24、   Some people don't like storms, but I think they are very exciting.

There are often storms at the end of a hot summer day. The clouds are small and white at first. However, they get bigger and bigger until they make one large, black cloud. The sky gets dark and it starts to rain hard. And then the streets are like swimming pools. There is a flash of bright light in the sky and then, after a few seconds, you can hear the loud “bang” of thunder.

Light travels very fast, so we always see the lightning(闪电) before we hear the thunder. If the clouds are one kilometre away, you can count to three, between the lightning and the thunder.

Lightning is very beautiful but it can also be dangerous. Lightning is electricity(电流) “jumping” to the ground from a cloud. It usually hits tall things, so if you are outside when there is thunder and lightning, don't stand under a tree.

    1We can see _________ in a storm.

A.a light rain B.a white cloud

    C.a small cloud D.lightning

2The streets are like swimming pools because _________.

A.the cloud is large and dark

    B.the sky gets dark

    C.it rains hard

    D.it's a hotter summer day

3What does the underlined word “flash” mean?

    A.闪光 B.明亮 C.响亮 D.阳光

4If the clouds are three kilometers away, you can count to _________ between the lightning and the thunder.

    A.three B.six C.nine D.twelve

5What should you do when there is thunder and lightning?

    A.Climb up a tree. B.Stand under a tree.

C.Stand under tall things. D.Stay in a car
