  • 26、Imagine a world where you move around in front of a personal computer in your own sound space. You listen to your favorite songs, play loud computer games or watch a movie — all without other people hearing the sound.

That is the possibility presented by “sound beaming,” a new technology from Noveto Systems, an Israeli company. On Friday, the company debuted a desktop device (设备) that sends sound directly to a listener without the need for headphones or a special receiver. Noveto Systems gave the Associated Press (AP) a chance to test its Sound Beamer 1.0 before its debut. The AP’s Louise Dixon writes that listening to the device is like something from a science fiction movie. The sound seems so close that it feels like it is inside your ears while also in front. above and behind them.

Because the device does not use headphones, it is possible to hear other sounds in the room clearly. The device uses a 3-D technology that finds and follows the ear position of the listener. It sends ultrasonic waves to create sound pockets by the user’s ears. Sound can be heard in stereo or 3-D. The 3-D method creates sound on all sides of the listener, the company said.

SoundBeamer Product Manager Ayana Wallwater enjoys watching the reactions of people trying the technology for the first time. “Most people just say, ‘Wow, I really don’t believe it,’” she said. “You don’t believe it because it sounds like a speaker, but no one else can hear it…it’s supporting you and you’re in the middle of everything. It’s happening around you” By changing a setting, the sound can follow a listener around when they move their head. “You don’t need to tell the device where you are. It’s not streaming to one exact place,” Wallwater said.

While the idea of sound beaming is not new, Noveto was the first to launch the technology. Its chief executive officer Christophe Ramstein said a “smaller” version of the device will be ready for release to consumers next year.

【1】What is special about the device?

A.It has a variety of functions.

B.There is no need for receiving tools.

C.Both the idea and technology are unique.

D.People cannot hear what you are listening to.

【2】What was Louise Dixon’s attitude toward the device?

    A.She did not state clearly.

    B.She thought it was amazing.

    C.She thought it was unreal.

D.She did not think it user-friendly.

【3】What is mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?

    A.How the device works.

    B.Why the device is created.

    C.What features the device has.

D.Who the device is intended for.

【4】Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?

    A.Enjoy Your Music Alone

    B.Headphones Are No Longer Needed

  • 27、Athletes in the Olympic Villages—in the Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou zones—have been sharing their moments with the panda in photos and videos, while Bing Dwen Dwen fans have patiently waited to buy products from licensed stores and through official online channels.

The enthusiasm for the mascot (吉祥物) products has led to a shortage of products, with many netizens complaining that it’s too difficult to get a Bing Dwen Dwen doll.

Zhang Zhicheng, a spokesman for the National Intellectual Property Administration, said the difficulty buyers face in getting the mascot products shows the country’s stronger and more comprehensive protection of Olympic symbols. “As the mascot has Olympic symbol protection, it also receives patent (专利), trademark and copyright protection,” Zhang said at a news conference organized by the 2022 Beijing Media Center on Monday.

Comprehensive IPR protection (全方位的知识产权保护) guarantees the rights and interests of IPR owners, and also promotes the spread of Olympic culture, he said. “Comprehensive IPR protection is our way of keeping Olympic rules. It’s also symbolic of our respect for every athlete, and encouragement for technological innovators at this sports event,” he said.

Sun Lei, an IPR lawyer at Yuanhe Partners in Beijing, said that difficulty in buying a Bing Dwen Dwen doll reflects enhanced awareness of the importance of protecting Olympic symbols, adding that thanks should go to the country’s early warnings on the issue and other measures.

After Bing Dwen Dwen was unveiled in 2019, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympics issued a notice on the protection of the mascot. It warned that no individual or department could use the image or name of the mascot for private reasons. It added that using the image in anything other than the official designs was also not allowed.

【1】According to Zhang Zhicheng, it’s too difficult to get a Bing Dwen Dwen doll because of________.

    A.a shortage of workers

B.the enthusiasm for the Olympic Games

    C.a lack of online channels

    D.China's protection of Olympic symbols

【2】According to the last paragraph, people were warned________.

    A.to create more official designs

B.to improve the quality of the mascot

C.not to use the image for personal reasons

D.not to buy too many mascots

【3】Where is this text most likely from?

  • 29、A heat wave roasted millions of people across the Pacific Northwest, claiming hundreds of lives. Climate change has made heat waves like this one more frequent and intense than those from any other point in recorded history. A study published in the journal Nature Climate Change found global warming responsible for 37 % of heat-related deaths between 1991 and 2018.

The following is what happens if you’re one of the next people whom extreme heat kills, according to W. Lawrence Kenney, an expert from Penn State University. First, your brain sends messages to encourage sweat production. Then your heart starts beating faster to pump blood to the skin while blood flow is also directed away from your liver, kidneys, and gut. That’s your body attempting to make your skin hotter than the air outside, in hopes of creating a convection (对流) phenomenon that moves heat away from you.

If heat stroke (中暑) occurs, your body might get so hot and redirect so much oxygen-rich blood to the skin that it fails those vital internal organs. Surviving the organ failure that follows might require an emergency transplant. If your body fails to cool you down, its internal temperature might start to climb from a normal level of about 98 degrees Fahrenheit to somewhere closer to 104 degrees. At that temperature, the brain becomes affected and you may feel it start as a headache. Before long, you might not know where you are or what time it is. Left untreated, what follows is a series of organ failure that leads to all but certain death. And that’s just part of what we know about how extreme heat kills you.

“It’s important for people to understand that there’s still a lot we don’t know about heat stroke and who’s most likely to be harmed,” Kenney said. “That’s because we can’t study it in humans in the laboratory. A lot of what we know comes from studies on animal models, like mice and rats, or from postmortem examinations (尸检) of people who have died of heat stroke.”

【1】Which organ will react to the heat wave immediately?

    A.The skin.

    B.The heart.

    C.The brain.

    D.The liver.

【2】What can we do first if heat stroke happens?

    A.Prevent organs from failing.

B.Try to cool down the body.

    C.Attempt to treat the headache.

    D.Discourage sweat from producing.

【3】What can we learn from Kenny in the last paragraph?

A.The study leaves much to be desired.

B.We should keep studying human deaths.

C.The study should have targeted at humans. `

D.The animal models studied are not reliable.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title?

    A.How heat strokes are developed.

B.How we can keep organs function well.

C.How we can slow down global warming.

D.How heat waves destroy the human body.
