26、Some of you may play Ant Forest, a game on Alipay. Users collect “energy” to make their “trees” grow. When the “energy” reaches a certain level, some organizations and companies will plant a real tree in a desert area of China. And now it seems that the nation’s efforts as a whole to make a greener world have paid off.
According to a research by NASA, China and India are mainly responsible for making the Earth greener over the past two decades. The study has found that since 2000 the Earth’s green leaf area has increased by 5 percent, or over 5 million square kilometers. That’s an area equivalent to the total area of the Amazon rainforest. It is mainly the result of big tree-planting programs in China and intensive agriculture in both countries, according to NASA. China was the major contributor, adding 25 percent to this increase, while India added 6.8 percent.
Over the past decades, China has made great efforts to green the land. In 1978, China began a national-level forestation project – the Three North Shelterbelt Forest Program, also known as the “Great Green Wall”. The program has seen many trees planted in 13 provinces and autonomous regions in northern China to act as windbreaks, according to China Daily. By the end of 2017, the forest coverage rate among the regions of the project had reached 13.57 percent, compared to 5.05 percent 40 years ago.
In the light of China’s success in dealing with desertification, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) believes the country is a good example for others to follow. “China is one of the most successful countries in greening the desert and has lessons to share with the world,” UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim told Xinhua.

27、On the morning of June 17, three Chinese crew(机组)members blasted into the sky, flying to China’s space station, Tiangong, which is being built. Powered by the giant Long March-2F rocket, their Shenzhou-12 capsule(太空舱)successfully docked(对接)at the space station’s core module(核心舱), Tianhe, after just a few hours.
After the ship docked with the space station, the astronauts opened four different hatches(窗口)to access the Tianhe core module, which was sent into orbit(轨道)on April 30. Tianhe has living rooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, dining area, exercise area, and work stations spread over 110 square meters. With only the American-led International Space Station for competition, Tiangong might have the best food available in space. There are more than 120 kinds of different food on board, all prepared to the astronauts’ tastes and health requirements. Among them are classic Sichuan dishes kung pao chicken and yuxiang shredded pork. Both dishes are surprisingly well-suited for space consumption(消耗): when wrapped(包裹)up in a pancake, they are easy to eat without making a mess; they contain a rich variety of ingredients(原料); there are no scraps like bones or skin to dispose(除掉)of; and they contain lots of calories. Plus, they’re delicious.
During their stay, the astronauts are scheduled to complete two spacewalks. The crew will use robotic arms to move around the ship and carry out repair tasks, as well as various experiments and tests on the Tiangong’s equipment(设备). But high on the crew’s to-do-list is to open the packages of supplies delivered by the Tianzhou-2 cargo spacecraft less than three weeks ago. The 6.8 tons of supplies include two specialized(专门的)spacesuits for spacewalks, oxygen tanks, food, water, propellant(推进燃料), and other supplies. At the end of the mission, the crew will ride the Shenzhou-12’s descent(降落)vehicle back to Earth, and land at the Dongfeng landing site in the Badain Jaran Desert in the western part of Inner Mongolian.

28、My husband and I used to think we had all we had ever wanted.A beautiful house, three healthy children and one more on the way,two cars,a couple of four-wheelers for entertainment—We really had it all and we loved it. Then, the market turned and my husband's job at a construction company was gone. The company was closing down forever.
We both started looking for jobs right away, but there weren't any to be found. With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through. The more we pulled together, the closer we got.I felt feelings of admiration for my husband that I hadn't felt for years.
That's why it was so hard for me to watch him blame himself for ou present situation.I continually asked him to stop but he seemed to want to punish himself for not having a job.
Finally, one afternoon I pulled him aside and said,"We have four healthy children and each other. That's what's important. That makes you a rich man."
"But what if we lose the house? They will hate me—you'll hate me,"he replied.
I smiled at him and put my hands on both sides of his face to make him look me in the eye."No matter where we live I will be happy—as long as I have you,"I smiled again as I realized that I wasn't just saying that.In all the struggling together I had found that deep love for him that I had on the day we said "I do".
I could see his shoulders and neck relaxed. He held me close and we were able to talk and plan and dream together in a way that we hadn't for quite some time.It was a turning point for us as a couple and a family.
We are still struggling for our better life, but I consider us well-off because we have something that money can't buy and no one can take away from us.

29、As a long-time resident(居民) of Beijing, I had always wanted to travel around and see more of China. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, I never found the right opportunity to go traveling. But, in May 2021, I finally found my big chance.
During the week-long Labor Day holiday, there happened to be few restrictions(限制) on travel, so I took this as my chance to go to Shanghai. What made this trip special was that not only was it my first time traveling by train, but also high-speed train. Many Americans are unused to taking public transportation, instead mainly using cars to get around.
For me, riding to Shanghai by train was especially nice since I could get a good look through the windows at the different kinds of beautiful scenery and towns as they rushed past me. In particular, I have always been a fan of the uniquely-shaped mountains of China, enjoying their beautiful curves(曲线) and slopes as they match the peaceful horizon. Another benefit of riding on trains was the spacious legroom which allowed me to relax more easily during my trip.
After arriving in Shanghai, I could not help but wonder why the US could not build a similarly useful and convenient railway system. Considering how cities are so spread out in the US, it is easy to see how the US would benefit from this kind of public investment(投资). This could lead to less reliance(依赖) on car ownership and have a positive impact on both the economy and environment.
