26、You love your parents, but have you felt that they are a bit too pushy? Since you started going to school, they have been taking care of all your activities. They want to come to the classroom every day, keep an eye on whom you talk to, know the friends you make, start telling you how to study well, and keep talking to you about everything under the sun. What’s more, they want to send you to various hobby classes, as they want you to be good in every field.
If so, what should you do? They are your parents, they will always want you to be the best, and will try their best to give you the best. So respect them. You are just so small that you even don’t know how big the world is, so it’s okay to leave the major decision-making to your parents.
If you feel that they are coming to your school almost every day and asking your teachers some questions, then you can always make them understand you are doing well in school, and there is nothing to worry about. If they expect you to train in football and go for your piano lessons as well, then you can gently tell them that you can not do many things at the same time. If talks are not helping, you can always talk with your teacher, and ask him/her to explain your problem to your parents, which can be helpful to solve the problem.
In a word, pushy parents aren’t all that bad. Remember they always love you and will never plan anything wrong for you. So, be ready for an open communication, whenever you feel there are differences of opinion.

27、 Art and science may seem like polar opposites(截然相反的两端). One is about the creative flow of ideas, and the other cold, hard data(数据)—or some people believe so. In fact, the two have much in common. Both require a lot of creativity. People also use both to better understand the world around them. Now, a study finds art also can help students remember better what they have learned in science class.
Mariale Hardiman is an education specialist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Back when she was a school principal, she had noticed that students who used art in the classroom were more engaged(参与其中的). They might listen more carefully, ask more questions and volunteer more ideas. What’ s more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their lessons had involved(包括) art. To test whether and how well art might really improve learning, she teamed up with other researchers and six local schools to do an experiment.
The researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrooms. They took the traditional science lessons and created art-focused versions(版本) of them. In a traditional science classroom, for example, students might read aloud from a book. In the art-focused class, they might sing or rap the information instead.
The team then randomly assigned (随机分配) each of the 350 students to either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one. Students then learned science using one of those approaches for the entire unit—about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, researchers could see how students did in both types of classes. After each phase(阶段) of the experiment, students took tests. They took a third one 10 weeks later. This one measured how well they still remembered what they had learned earlier.
Students who started off in regular classes performed better after they moved into an art-focused class. And those who started in an art-focused class did well even when they moved back to a regular science class. "These students appeared to use some of the art techniques after moving back to a traditional lass," says Hardiman. "Some continued to sketch (画草图) or sing to help them remember information," she notes. "This suggests that art may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own."
In some cases, students actually performed better in the third test than in those taken earlier. Classroom teachers reported that "many students continued to sing the songs or raps that they learned after finishing the unit". "The more we hear something, the better we remember," Hardiman notes.
Everyone benefits from art, Hardiman agrees. "All students should learn how to use art as an instructional tool to promote learning."

28、Over the holidays, I took my three young children into a fancy chocolate shop to buy gifts. Halfway home, I noticed my 7-year-old son playing with a plastic noisemaker. Long story short: He had stolen the toy. I kept my cool -- even when he said, "but it was only $1.50, Mom!" --and explained why it was unacceptable to take things we didn't buy.
A few hours later, I marched my son back to the store with two dollars from his piggy bank. He walked embarrassedly to the counter and told the clerk that he had taken something without paying for it, that he was sorry to break it and that he would pay for it now.
I know exactly how terrible he was feeling. Returning to the scene of the crime is the same shame-causing punishment I received when I was five and stole something from a store. 1 remember my dad sending me back to return the item. It remains one of my clearest child- hood memories. After that day, I never stole again. My dad taught me such an important lesson 30 years ago and I saw an opportunity to do the same for my son. But now I wonder if it was the fight thing to do.
"Returning to the store is absolutely the right thing to do," Laura Markham, Ph.D., a child psychologist and author of Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids, says. "Many children steal -- they' re not born knowing the rules so it' s our job to teach them."
And stay calm when you set them. "If you overreact or yell, you might create a fascination with the behavior and a willful child will be more likely to fight against you," she says. Having a child physically return the stolen item helps him or her grasp the situation -- and the consequence.
But don't talk about it for too long. "lf you continuously bring up the incident, the child will believe they' re a thief and that they' re bad," she says.
Only time will tell if this experience will have the same powerful effect on my son as it had on me, but at the same time I can rest if I haven' t dealt with the situation badly.

A. her father asked her to do so
B. it had been popular for 30 years
C. she knew it was the right thing to do

【3】According to Laura Markham, if parents shout at their kids' stealing behavior, the kids may _______.
A. feel frightened
B. steal again
C. think they are bad
D. remember what happened clearly
【4】What does the author think of Laura Markham' s words?
A. They are doubtful.
B. They are unacceptable.
C. They help her to stop feeling worried.
D. They have taught her a good lesson.
29、China has more than 30 intangible cultural heritage recognized by the UNESCO, including paper-cutting, the Dragon Boat Festival, Peking Opera, acupuncture (针灸) and so on. The organization adopted a decision that China’s “The Twenty-Four Solar Terms” (二十四节气) should be put on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016 in Ethiopia.
The Twenty-Four Solar Terms, knowledge of time and practices in agriculture, starts from the Beginning of Spring and ends with the Greater Cold, moving in cycles. It developed through the observation of the sun’s annual movement in China. In ancient time, the method of tugui, earth sundial (日暑), was used to measure the shadow of the sun for determining the solar terms.
The Twenty-Four Solar Terms came into being and developed in close relationship with Chinese agricultural production. At the initial stage of agricultural development, people began to explore the seasonal rules in the agricultural production to meet the needs in seeding, harvesting and other activities. Gradually, they formed the concept of “seed in spring, grow in summer, harvest in autumn and store in winter”. During the spring and autumn periods, the agricultural production was highly influenced by the seasonal changes, thus forming the concept of Solar Terms.
As a traditional Chinese knowledge system of time with a history of thousands of years, the Twenty-Four Solar Terms clearly expresses the concepts of respect for nature, and harmony between man and nature. Created by Chinese ancestors, it have functioned as a complete set of weather calendar (日历) to guide the agricultural production in China. It has also been introduced into North Korea, Japan and other neighboring countries and still used in Japan. The Chinese heritage has provably influenced the people’s way of thinking and behaving and will continue to be an important carrier of Chinese cultural identity.

The next time you’re riding a subway or bus, pay attention to your fellow passengers. Chances are you’ll see plenty of them with their heads down, tapping the screens of their tablets or 【1】 on their smartphones. While these folks may be making good use of their time by staying 【2】, their bodies are paying a heavy price for such convenience.
As hand-held devices such as smartphones and tablets are becoming more common, users are reporting some new 【3】 problems. Florida chiropractor (脊椎按摩师) Dean Fishman began noticing an increased number of his patients 【4】 of neck and shoulder pain. He traced these 【5】 to the overuse of hand-held devices, specifically the action of bending the neck, and created the term “Text Neck.” As if the painful symptoms weren’t bad enough, Fishman warns that an untreated case of Text Neck could lead to permanent spinal (脊柱的) damage. He founded the Text Neck Institute in an effort to treat and educate those suffering from Text Neck. Treatments offered there include chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy and exercise planning.
In order to avoid or reduce the possibility of getting Text Neck, use the following basic principles:
Avoid awkward positioning. Don’t strain (滥用) your neck, and stay aware of how your body is positioned in relation to the device.
Take frequent 【6】 when using any kind of mobile device.
When using a tablet, use a case that can back up the device at comfortable viewing angle.
For those who simply can’t take their eyes off their devices, there is an ironic twist – downloading a special app(应用程序)could help. Dr. Fishman has released an app called the Text Neck Indicator App, which measures the angle of your smartpphone. When the angle is appropriate, a green light appears in the upper corner of your screen. But when the angle puts you at risk for neck strain, the light turns red, obliging you to adjust your angle.
32、Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
It is a common sight on campus or in the streets: a young person rides by on an electric scooter, traveling quickly and proudly. But Beijing’s traffic authorities have said that starting on Sept.5, people who are caught riding electric scooters on public roads or bicycle lanes will be fined 10 yuan. They will also be given a warning not to use the vehicles on public roads again.
The announcement was made after traffic police in Shanghai started a campaign to get electric scooters off public roads, with police officers stopping riders because the scooters could cause traffic problems.
The Beijing Consumer Association said it had tested more than 20 electric scooters of different brands recently and found that most had substandard brakes. It added that 16 of the tested scooters could go faster than the maximum 20 km per hour set for electric bikes. According to the traffic police, people who ride electric scooters at certain speeds can easily bump into the vehicles in the vehicle lane and hurt people who walk in the bicycle lanes.
But seeing the benefits that electric scooters have brought to young people, experts are worried that the ban may take effect slowly.
Electric scooters are a great answer to the ‘last mile problem’ of getting from a public transport station to one’s home. They’re light enough to throw over your shoulder. They’re easy to ride just about anywhere and don’t need a lot of physical effort. The scooter can travel 25 km on one charge. It’s convenient and easy to control.
They are also good for environment. Unlike cars and buses, electric scooters produce no carbon dioxide, need no fuel and make almost no noise.
For many young people, they use them to copy cool celebrities they have seen in videos.
