  • 26、If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak, and when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way.

When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.

If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed, and few of us know that it is just his own fault (过错). Have you ever found that some people can’t read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and when they have to remember things, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. As a result, they have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.

So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.

    1Someone can’t have a good memory if ________.

    A. he can’t read or write

    B. his parents haven’t a good memory

    C. he doesn’t use his arms or legs for some time

    D. he doesn’t make good use of his memory

2If you do not use your arms or legs for some time, ________.

    A. they will become thin

    B. they will become weak

    C. they begin to ache all over

    D. you can’t use them any more

3Few people know that if someone has a poor memory it is ________.

    A. his own fault   B. his parents" fault

    C. his teachers" fault   D. his friends" fault

4Give the best title for this passage. ____.

    A. Don't Stop Using your Arms or Legs   B. Learn from the People

    C. How to Have a Good Memory   D. Strong Arms and Good Memories

  • 27、Of the many safety measures that Disney Parks had to set up to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic, requiring guests to keep a six-foot distance from the costumed characters must have been one of the hardest.

For kids or kids at heart, running into the waiting arms of Mickey Mouse and other beloved characters had been such a fascinating and essential part of the experience, which makes hanging back terribly tough.

But finally, hugs are back on the horizon at US Disney sites.

As early as April 18, “Disney will start reintroducing traditional character greetings at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as aboard Disney Cruise Line and at Aulani Resort in Hawaii,” according to a new post on the official Disney Parks blog. Getting autographs, shooting photos close up and sharing a laugh face-to-face with characters such as Mulan, Goofy, and Donald Duck will all be back on the table.

“During the past two years, we’ve taken a very gradual, intentional approach to health and safety protocols,” wrote Shawn Slater, senior communications manager for Disney Live Entertainment, in the blog. “Recent trends and guidance have provided opportunities for us to bring back some of our most beloved magic, like character greetings and dining experiences. While not all locations will be available immediately, we anticipate reopening in stages throughout the spring and early summer.”

It’s not just character interactions that will be returning later this spring. At Disneyland in California, guests can look forward to the return of several nighttime spectaculars, including fireworks and Main Street Parade.

However, Disney still isn’t 100% back in some ways. Take face masks, for instance. Disney asks that visitors who are not fully vaccinated (接种疫苗) continue wearing face masks in all indoor locations. You can click here for their latest safety updates.

【1】What makes it hard for Disney Parks to operate during the Covid-19 pandemic?

A.They have to require their fascinating characters to be costumed.

B.They have to ban visitors from getting close to beloved characters.

C.They have to ask guests to keep a six-foot distance from each other.

D.They have to make kids or kids at heart wait to meet Micky Mouse.

【2】According to official Disney Parks blog, what will be brought back to Disneyland?

A.Taking pictures next to Donald Duck.

    B.Having face-to-face conversations with Mulan.

C.Dining on the table with Goofy.

    D.Watching performances given by characters.

【3】Where can we probably find the text?

    A.A magazine.

    B.A website.

    C.A textbook.

    D.A novel.

【4】Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

A.Disney takes safety measures for guests to keep a distance from characters.

B.Traditional character greetings will be back at all Disney Parks worldwide.

C.Disney asks visitors who are not fully vaccinated to wear face masks.

D.Character hugs and other interactions will return soon at US Disney sites.

  • 28、   Astronomers have taken the first ever image of a black hole, which is located in a distant galaxy (星系). The black hole is 500 million trillion km away and was photographed by a network of eight telescopes across the world. It was captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).

The announcement was made in Washington, Brussels, Santiago, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo. Details have been published today in Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Prof Heino Falcke, of Radboud University in the Netherlands, who suggested the experiment, told BBC News that the black hole was found in a galaxy called M87. 'What we see is larger than the size of our entire Solar System, ' he said. 'It has a mass 6.5 billion times that of the Sun. And it is one of the heaviest black holes that we think exists. It is an absolute monster, the heavyweight champion of black holes in the Universe.'

The image shows an intensely bright 'ring of fire', as Prof Falcke describes it, surrounding a perfectly circular dark hole. The bright halo is caused by very heated gas falling into the hole. The light is brighter than all the billions of other stars in the galaxy combined-which is why it can be seen at such distance from Earth. The edge of the dark circle at the center is the point at which the gas enters the black hole, which is an object that has such a large gravitational pull (万有引力), not even light can escape.

'It is remarkable that the image we observe is so similar to that which we get from our calculations. So far, it looks like Einstein is correct once again. ' Said Dr Ziri Younsi, of University College London-who is part of the EHT cooperation.

Chinese scientists were involved in the observation through a telescope in Hawaii. They were also highly involved in follow-up data processing and theoretical analysis, said Shen Zhiqiang, head of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and a member of the EHT international team.

Shanghai and Taipei were selected as two of the cities to hold news conferences, together with Washington, Brussels, Santiago and Tokyo, a recognition of China's contribution.

'In the fields of astronomy, radio astronomy, and space astrophysics, China has made a significant contribution to this global project, ' Falcke said.

1What is the best title for the passage?

A.How Einstein Discovered a Black Hole

B.How a Black Hole Is Formed

C.First Image of a Black Hole Taken

    D.China's contributions to astronomy

2Why are six cities selected for the announcement?

A.It was a joint effort of many countries.

B.It was the first black hole ever discovered.

C.It took eight telescopes to work together.

D.It’s the heaviest of black holes.

3From the passage we know that in the experiment Chinese scientists   .

A.started the experiment. B.played an important role.

C.completed the calculation. D.provided the equipment.

4What does Dr Ziri Younsi tell us about black holes in Paragraph 5?

A.Black holes can eat up everything in the Universe.

B.Einstein has been proved wrong many times.

C.Scientists knew about black holes before they see them.

D.Black holes might be some make-up stories.

  • 29、Being mistreated at work can make people take out their negative emotions on loved ones at home. But a new study suggests that getting more exercise and sleep may help people better cope with them by leaving them at work, where they belong.

Previous research shows that employees who are looked down on or insulted by colleagues are likely to express their frustrations and behave angrily toward people outside of work, says study co-author Shannon Taylor, a management professor at the University of Central Florida’s College of Business.

The new study backs up this idea, but offers a bit of good news as well: Employees who averaged more than 10, 500 steps a day or burned at least 2, 100 calories were less likely to mistreat their families than those who averaged fewer steps or burned fewer calories.

The findings also revealed that when employees felt they had a bad night’s sleep because of work issues, they were more likely to be angry at home. “When you’re tired, you are either less able or less motivated to regulate yourself.” says co-author Larissa Barber, a professor of psychology at Northern Illinois University.

Physical activity seems to counterbalance poor sleep, Barber says, because it promotes healthy brain functions needed to properly regulate emotions and behaviors. “This study suggests that high amounts of exercise can be at least one way to improve the situations brought by sleep troubles that lead to negative behaviors at home, ” she says.

Barber acknowledges that finding time to work out and get a full night’s sleep can be difficult when work pressure is mounting, and that often, job stress can be directly connected to sleep quality. However, she says, making the effort to burn some extra calories and let go of some stress can be worth it. It’s not only good for you, says Taylor, but it can benefit your loved people.

1What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 1 refer to?

    A. Loved people at home.   B. Negative emotions.

    C. Different work pressures.   D. More exercise and sleep.

2Who will most probably behave angrily to family members?

    A. A person who is easy to get tired.

    B. A person who is always treated badly by coworkers.

    C. A person who often goes to the gym to work out.

    D. A person who often argues with colleagues.

3The underlined word “counterbalance” in Paragraph 5 probably means   .

    A. make use of   B. take control of

    C. keep up with   D. make up for

4What can we learn from the text?

    A. The amount of calories employees burn affects the frequency of losing temper.

    B. How to burn more calories has become a major issue for workers.

    C. Enough exercise can replace good sleep in dealing with negative behaviors.

    D. Work pressure makes no difference in sleep quality.
