二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Ride-hailing apps and robot cars promise to change how we get around and the effects are already being felt. Traffic in New York is slowing down. Jams are common in Manhattan, especially in its business districts. Daytime traffic in the busiest areas now moves almost 20% more slowly than it did five years ago.

It seems a place ripe for wide use of ride-hailing apps that, you might think, would reduce some of the jams. However, those apps appear to be making things worse as traffic has slowed in line with the growing popularity of apps such as Uber and Lyft, a study by transport expert Bruce Schaller suggests.

Over the four years of the study, the number of cars in Manhattan seeking ride-hailing fares increased by 81%. There are now about 68,000 ride-sharing drivers across New York. That’s about five times the number of the yellow cabs licensed to operate there, he found. There are so many drivers, his work suggests, who spend about 45% of their spare time just touring for fares. That is a lot of unused cars blocking a lot of busy streets.

Simple physics explains why ride-sharing vehicles are causing, not curing jams, said Jarrett Walker, a public transport policy expert who has advised hundreds of cities about moving people.

“Lots of people are deciding that, ’Oh, public transport is just too much trouble this morning,’ or whenever, which causes a shift from it,” he told the BBC. “That means moving people from larger vehicles into smaller ones, which means more vehicles to move the same people. Therefore, more traffic.”

Data gathered about ride-sharing drivers illustrates how they contribute to congestion(塞车), said Prof. Christo Wilson, a computer scientist at Northeastern University who has studied the services. “You can look at the traffic pattern for the Uber vehicles and it perfectly matches the peaks for the rush hour and the peak time of a day,” he said. They are out there in force at the worst possible times.

1What can we know about the cabs in New York?

    A. More cabs are needed to meet the demand.

    B. They often tour around the city seeking users.

    C. Their fares increased greatly over the four years.

    D. The number of them is far less than ride-sharing cars.

2What is Christo Wilson’s attitude toward ride-sharing practice?

    A. Neutral B. Negative

    C. Indifferent D. Supportive

3Which of the following best replaces “it” underlined in Paragraph 5.

    A. A jam. B. Public transport

    C. A car. D. A ride-sharing vehicle.

4What is the best title for the text?

    A. Worse Road Jams. B. App Makes Terrible Jams.

    C. Efforts Needed for Traffic. D. Technology Counts in Future.

  • 22、In the icy Himalayas, user kebi057 on TikTok, a video sharing platform, shows people around the world about everyday life in Tibet. And people are definitely taking a look. He has over 236,000 followers and nearly 4 million likes for his videos-clips of himself pulling his sled with his dog, preparing food and, in his most popular video, building a "natural refrigerator" out of ice blocks—to the amazement of people in the comments, who were amazed at his ice box.

When lockdown went into effect earlier this year, many people turned to TikTok to pass the time. The short-video platform has now hit over 2. 6 billion downloads globally and was the most downloaded app of 2020, according to mobile app analytics firm App Annie.

The pandemic is part of the reason for surging TikTok popularity. "It's been a bleak year for many people. Much of the content you see on TikTok is fun, upbeat and a welcome break from the day-to-day realities of the COVID crisis," says Damian Radcliffe, a professor at the University of Oregon who researches digital trends.

With TikTok's growing popularity, digital researcher Damian Radcliffe says one of the biggest issues the app is facing globally is the spread of misinformation on its platform. "We've already seen the app like many other platforms—filled with conspiracy(阴谋)theories, misinformation around elections and misinformation related to the COVID vaccine and the wider health crisis," he explains.

In India, TikTok launched a campaign called MatKarForward to tackle the issue of misinformation. The topic, which has received over 3. 7 billion views, encourages users to stop and think before forwarding videos that promote fake news, such as COVID-19 "homemade" remedies and various conspiracies.

【1】What's the author's purpose of writing paragraph 1?

A.To introduce the topic of the text.

B.To arouse the interest of the readers.

C.To present how enjoyable life is in Tibet.

D.To describe the popularity of a particular user.

【2】What does the underlined word in paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Pleasant.

    B.Confusing

    C.Depressing

    D.Meaningful

【3】What's the author's attitude towards Tiktok's dealing with misinformation?

    A.Negative.

    B.Objective.

    C.Optimistic.

    D.Ambiguous.

  • 23、   Want to get your package delivered via robots? Now there’s an app for that. If you live in Washington D.C., or Redwood, you may have glimpsed a small, boxy robot rolling along a local sidewalk, minding its own business, but attracting the attention of many curious onlookers.

The autonomous machines were part of a pilot program last year by Starship Technologies focusing on delivering meals from local restaurants in dozens of cities around the world. This week, the company unveiled plans to broaden its delivery service beyond food to include package, a move that led it to declare itself “the world’s first robot package delivery service”. The next time you order food, this cute robot might roll up to deliver it. The package delivery service is not available to everyone yet.

The wheeled robots have a top speed of 4mph and can detect obstacles from 30 feet away. “The robot can operate through anything,” Nick Handrick, head of operations for Starship’s D.C. office, sad, “If you had something in the way-a stick –it’s able to climb sticks.”

To sign up for the service, which costs a little more than $10 per month, customers need to download the company’s app. Customers then create a “Starship Delivery Address”, a unique address inside a Starship facility, where they can have package sent from places such as Amazon.com. Once a package is delivered to the Starship address, customers receive a text notification that allows them to schedule a home delivery via robot. The robots are opened by customers via a mobile phone code.

Barriers exist for robotic ground delivery, with many states requiring that humans be in control of delivery robots. Those regulations haven’t stopped Starship Technologies from accumulating experience on streets around the globe ahead of the company’s latest launch. The company says its robots have covered more than 125,000 miles in more than 100 cities in 20 countries.

1What can we know about the robotic delivery?

A.It is part of a trial project by Starship Technologies.

B.The robotic delivery is available to everyone at present.

C.You can use the service free of charge via smart phones.

D.The robots are opened by customers with a text notification.

2What does the underlined word“unveiled”in paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Revised. B.Released. C.Restored. D.Reset.

3What is the last paragraph mainly about?

A.The good news of the service.

    B.How the robotic delivery works.

C.The disadvantages of the robotic delivery.

    D.Robotic delivery develops despite challenges.

4What can be the best title for the text?

A.New Robot Was Invented B.Wheelless Robots Are on the Way

C.How Robots Deliver Packages D.Packages Will Be Delivered by Robots

  • 24、   “A lie can travel half way around the world before the truth can put its boots on,” said Mark Twain.1

To make matters worse, most young people get news from social media sites where facts are mixed with rumors, half-truths and complete lies. 2In the latest PISA, which tested 15-year-olds worldwide on academic subjects, fewer than one in ten of the examinees were reported to be able to distinguish fact from opinion. Another study showed that students at all levels of education could not tell real news from fake news. In one instance, 80 percent thought that a paid advertisement was a real news story.

3 They want to influence public opinion either for or against something or someone. It is important, then, for young people to recognize when they are being used and to be skeptical of online information.

Traditional media, such as newspapers and television, are still the more credible source of information.4And then editors have the job of making sure those facts are correct. However, if you are getting most of your information online, you have to be your own editor In that case, the first thing to do is to look at the writer of a post. Is this person known to be credible? Does the site where you read the post have a prejudice? 5 By doing so, you won’t be fooled into chasing lies.

A.Secondly, you can ignore traditional media.

B.This has led to young people becoming confused.

C.Reporters are professionally trained to look for facts.

D.Fake news is spread by people who have a prejudice.

E.This may be because fake news can easily catch their attention.

F.In today’s Internet world of “fake news”, lies spread even faster than the truth.

G.Next, look for other sources from mainstream media to confirm the information.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My ten-year-old self loved summertime. The best part of summer was the community pool. Everyone was there.

We didn’t have a care in the world. Our biggest concern was which one of us could hold her breath underwater the longest. We didn’t care what we looked like or who was cool. I never once thought about how I looked in a swimsuit or if my hair looked good. I was aware that I wasn’t super-thin like some of the other girls I saw, but I didn’t care.

And then one day, I was taking my turn on the diving board with all the other kids. I jumped in, floated freely to the top and swam over to the ladder to make my way out of the pool. I noticed a girl standing at the top of the ladder, so I swam slowly, giving her time to move. I didn’t know her. She looked cute and thin.

But instead of moving, a strange thing happened. This girl leaned over the pool and said to me, “They don’t allow beached (搁浅的) whales in this pool.”

Beached whales? I soon realized that I was the beached whale. Suddenly, my cool blue swimsuit didn’t cover enough. I got out of the pool quickly and wrapped my towel around my body, feeling like I was going to throw up. From that moment on, I was aware of my size.

Clothes became a horrible dream, and I struggled through my teen years and into adulthood. I cried over clothes that didn’t fit. My heart had always hated the little girl by the pool, who took the confidence out of my life until I got my daughter, Lisa.

One day I dressed my little girl in beautiful clothes and put a bow (蝴蝶结) on her head, but she refused because she liked to be comfortable. Is society interested in comfort? However, when I stared at her, I suddenly realized how beautiful she was, even though she was covered in mud.

    注意:

    1. 续写词数应为150左右;

    2. 请按如下格式作答。

When Lisa was ten, I came across a picture of myself when I was ten and I showed it to her.
