四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Astronauts on board the International Space Station (ISS) once made history by taking bites of red romaine lettuce (长叶药昔). They became the first humans to eat food that was grown entirely in space.

The lettuce was planted on the ISS in a small greenhouse called “Veggie”, which uses LED lights to help plants grow in space.

First, the astronauts cleaned the lettuce with special sanitizing wipes(消毒纸巾) and then ate it with some salad dressing.

“It was one small bite for man, one giant leap (飞跃)for ...our journey to Mars.”one astronaut, Scott Kelly, later posted on social media.

Space vegetables are a part of the NASA experiment called “Veg-01”, a study on how plants grow without the effects of Earth’s gravity(重力). It will allow astronauts to grow and eat their own food during long space explorations.

“If we’re ever going to go to Mars someday, we're going to need a spacecraft that is much more self-sustainable in its food supply(供应)”, said Kelly.

Growing fresh plants on a spacecraft may also provide oxygen and help keep astronauts alive, NASA said.

Veg-o1 started in May 2014.The first batch(一批)of vegetables took 33 days to grow in space before they were taken back to Earth for a safety check. After making sure they were safe to eat, astronauts planted a second batch on July 8. They let the plant grow for another 33 days and were then able to eat it.

Astronauts usually only get vegetables when a supply ship comes to the ISS. Now with vegetables grown in space, they can eat them whenever they want.

    1Astronauts made history by________.

    A.working on the ISS B.eating space-grown lettuce

C.cooking real food in space D.building a small greenhouse.

    2What is Veg-01?

A.It is the name of the greenhouse on the ISS.

B.It is a NASA project for exploring Mars.

C.It is a NASA experiment growing plants in space.

D.It s a NASA experiment on providing oxygen in space.

3According to Kelly, why is growing fresh plants in space important?

A.Because it provides people with healthier food.

B.Because it can help astronauts with their journey to Mars.

C.Because it provides astronauts with enough oxygen.

D.Because it cuts the cost of delivering food to the ISS.

4What does the underlined word “self-sustainable” mean in Chinese?

    A.独自生长的 B.自我完善的 C.自我延续 D.自给自足的

5What is the main idea of the story?

A.The success of growing vegetables in space. B.What food astronauts eat in space.

C.How astronauts get food in space. D.Astronauts’ work and life on the ISS.

  • 25、I’m a storyteller. And I would like to tell you a few personal stories.

I grew up reading British and American children’s books. When I began to write, I wrote exactly the kinds of stories I was reading: All my characters were white and blue-eyed, they ate apples and talked a lot about the weather, despite the fact that I lived in Nigeria. We ate mangoes and we never talked about the weather.   Because all I had read were books in which characters were foreign. I had become convinced that books by their very nature had to have foreigners in them.Things changed when I discovered African books.Because of writers like Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye, I went through a mental shift in my idea of literature(文 学). I realized that people like me, girls with skin the color of chocolate, could also exist in literature.I started to write about things I recognized. So what the discovery of African writers did for me was this: It saved me from having a single story of what books are.

The year I turned eight, we got a new house boy Fide from a nearby rural village. The only thing my mother told us about him was that his family was very poor. And when I didn’t finish my dinner, my mother would say, “Finish your food! Don’t you know? People like Fide’s family have nothing.” So I felt great pity for Fide’s family. Then one Saturday,we went to his village to visit, and his mother showed us a beautifully patterned basket that his brother had made. I was astonished. It had not occurred to me that anybody in his family could actually make something. Their poverty (being poor) was my single story of them.

Years later, when I left Nigeria to go to university in the United States, my American roommate asked where I had learned to speak English so well, and was confused when I said that Nigeria happened to have English as its official language. What struck me was this: She had felt sorry for me even before she saw me. My roommate had a single story of Africa: a single story of disaster.

Of course, Africa is a continent full of disasters. But there are other stories that are not about disaster, and it is very important, it is just as important, to talk about them. The result of the single story is this: It robs people of dignity(尊严). It makes our recognition(认可)of our equal humanity(人性)difficult. It pays more attention to how we are different than how we are similar.

So what if my mother had told us that Fide’s family was poor and hardworking? What if we had an African television network that broadcast different African stories all over the world? What if my roommate knew about my Nigerian publisher, Muhtar Bakare, a remarkable man who left his job in a bank to follow his dream and start a publishing house? What if my roommate knew about my friend Funmi Iyanda,a fearless woman who hosts a TV show, and is determined to tell the stories that we prefer to forget?

My Nigerian publisher and I have just started a non-profit called Farafina Trust, and we have big dreams of building libraries and providing books for state schools, and also of organizing lots of workshops in reading and writing, for all the people who are eager to tell our many stories.

Stories matter. Many stories matter.Stories can break the dignity of a people, but stories can also repair that broken dignity. When we realize that there is never a single story about any place, we regain a kind of enjoyment.

【1】What is probably people’s first impression of the writer when it comes to her nationality(国籍)? ________

A.She mainly eats apples and mangoes.

B.She may not speak good English.

C.She comes from a place free of disasters.

D.She prefers stories based on foreign characters.

【2】The underlined phrase “a mental shift” in Paragraph 2 refers to the writer’s ________.

A.discovery of African books with characters of her skin color

B.acquaintance(相识)with local African writers like Chinua Achebe

C.realization (意识)that not only foreign characters exist(存在)in literature

D.change that she started to write about things she recognized(认可)

  • 27、   What does it take to graduate (毕业) from a university? Many may say all you have to do is to take classes and pass the exams. Well, it is not enough if you're a student at Tsinghua University.

Starting this September, students at the university will have to take swimming courses, If they fail a swimming test at the beginning of their university course, they won't receive their degree (学位) until they can pass the test successfully. But students with certain physical or mental (心理的) illness are not included. Why does the university connect swimming ability with degrees? Liu Bo, head of the Division of Sports Science and Physical Education, explained, "As a necessary living skill, swimming is helpful in improving students' endurance (耐力). And students don't get hurt easily when doing the water sport." Considering the ability to swim as a must for students is not something new to this university-it was also necessary in the early 20th century. It was later dropped because of a rising number of students. Another reason is that there were not enough swimming pools. Besides Tsinghua University, Peking University and Xiamen University, have also listed swimming as a compulsory course for students.

However, the rule made by Tsinghua University has caused a heated discussion. Some welcomed the new rule, saying it's a necessary skill that can save lives in unexpected and dangerous situations as well as a way to stay healthy. However, some said it has nothing to do with getting a degree. It's not reasonable to ask people to be able to swim for them to graduate, especially for a lot of people who grew up in inland (内陆) cities, learning how to swim as an adult will be difficult. In fact, Chinese universities are not the only education organizations that encourage their students to swim. A few colleges in the. United States-including Cornell University, Columbia University and MIT-provide swimming classes for students, too. They believe that anything that stops people from dying needlessly is a valuable skill.

1Besides Tsinghua University, another _______ universities encourage their students to swim.

    A.2 B.3 C.5

2From this passage, we can learn that at Tsinghua University, _______.

A.students are expected to learn some living skills

B.all the students have to take a swimming course

C.students can graduate as long as they get good grades

3The underlined word "compulsory" means _______ in Chinese.

    A.选修的 B.无关的 C.必修的

4As for the discussion in paragraph 3, which statement is NOT mentioned?

A.It's helpful and healthy to learn to swim.

B.Swimming will get in the way of students' study.

C.Learning to swim should not be a must for getting a degree.

5What can we infer from the passage?

A.All universities believe' that swimming is the most important skill.

B.Students at Tsinghua University had to take swimming courses in the 1910s.

C.It is much, easier for an adult who grew up in Chengdu to learn to swim.
