21、 A few years ago, Maxine Bedat— who is now in her early 30s —looked in her closet. It was full of clothes, but she had nothing to wear. And that was because it was a closet full of fast fashion that was falling apart.
"Fast fashion" means clothes that are inexpensive but look like the latest designs from top fashion houses. Well-known fast fashion stores include H&M, Forever 21, Zara and Topshop.
One reason for the success of fast fashion is social media. A report found that Millennials— people born in the 1980s and 90s—want to wear different types of clothes in the photos they post on social websites. As a result, many businesses that offer trendy, low-cost clothes are growing. But some Millenmials are not happy with the rise of fast fashion.
Maxine Bedat, the woman with the closet full of clothes but nothing to wear, was tired of always shopping for what was in style. Instead, she wanted to buy fewer clothes that she could wear over and over. Other people wanted the same thing, she says. So Ms. Bedat and a business partner, Soraya Darabi, started a "slow fashion" clothing company called Zady.
"Slow fashion" means clothes that last a long time. They are often classic colors and shapes, and are made from natural materials that are biodegradable (生物降解的) over time.
The terms"fast fashion" and "slow fashion" are similar to "fast food" and"slow food". Like slow food, slow fashion also aims to use sources that are good for the environment and workers. Zady aims to tell shoppers where their clothes come from, where they go, and how they influence the world.
【1】What can we know about fast fashion?
A.It refers to inexpensive but higher-quality clothes.
B.It is the latest design from top fashion houses.
C.It can fall apart easily and quickly.
D.It's highly possible for all the Millenials to like the changeable but cheap clothes.
【2】Which of the following is the leader of slow fashion?
A.H&M. B.Forever 21. C.Topshop. D.Zady.
【3】The passage is developed mainly by __________.
A.giving examples B.making comparisons (对比) C.offering explanations (说明) D.providing statistics (数据)
22、Table manners are how to behave when you eat a meal. They include how to handle knives, forks and spoons and how to eat in a polite manner. To behave well abroad, you should know some table manners.
EATING MANNERS
Japan: It is “perfectly” okay to slurp(发出啧啧的声音)when you eat noodles. Unlike making big noises, slurping slightly is not rude. Japanese also say it tastes better if you slurp.
Russia: Your wrists(手腕)should be placed on the edge of the table while eating, fork in the left hand, and knife in the right. It is not good manners to rest them on your lap. Keep your elbows off the table. Leave some food on your plate to show that the host has given you enough to eat.
France: Never discuss money or religion over dinner. What is different from the manners in Russia is that finishing everything on your plate is considered good manners.
Mexico: Whenever you catch the eye of someone who’s eating, even a stranger, it’s good manners to say “prove Cho”. It means enjoy. In Mexico, dining is more than a meal. It’s a social occasion-lunches are seldom quick and suppers can last for hours. Where you sit is very important in the country. Before you get seated, look for place cards, or wait until the host seats you. And you must say “enjoy your meal” before you leave the table.
DRINKING MANNERS
America: If you empty a bottle into someone’s glass, it obliges(迫使)that person to buy the next bottle. It’s polite to put the last drops into your own glass.
Australia: In a pub (酒吧), it’s usual to buy a round of drinks for everyone in your group. When it’s your turn, say “It’s my round.” When it’s their round, they will buy it for you. Don’t leave before you’ve bought a round.

23、 What does an astronaut eat in apace? This is a question that will puzzle many people. In the early space travel years, astronauts ate dehydrated (脱水的) foods that were eaten through straws (吸管). In today’s space-age, the food that they eat is quite different. They eat food in the same way as people do on Earth.
Astronauts are able to prepare and eat a variety (多样化) of foods in space now. Some can be eaten in their natural form, like fruits, while some need to add water, like noodles. However, there are no fridges, so the food has to be prepared and eaten without being stored for a long time. When the astronauts are hungry, they simply eat the food by opening the food packages and eat with a fork, knife and spoon.
Just like people on Earth, astronauts also eat three meals a day which include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Sometimes they also eat snacks. The US space agency NASA has found out that an astronaut’s diet reduces (减少) by about 70% on a space mission, though he has a wide range of foods to choose from like nuts, chicken, beef, seafood and candies. Drinks in the spaceship include coffee, tea, juices, and lemonade.
Astronauts can also ask for a special food that they would like to have in space. Scientists are always experimenting and trying out different space foods that can be offered to astronauts when on space missions (任务).
【1】In the early space travel years, astronauts ________.
A. ate dehydrated food
B. drank milk through straws

24、
If you have ever had a cat, or have watched one of the many funny cat videos online, you'll know that cats have a mind of their own. A lot of the things they do are hard to understand—they like to climb up tall furniture, fit themselves in small spaces and attack(攻击) small objects for no reason at all.
Now scientists have managed to work out what exactly is going on in the brains of our little friends. According to Tony Buffington, a professor at Ohio State University in the US, cats' strange behavior(行为)largely comes from their way of life back in the wild. "Cats today still have many of the same natural abilities that allowed them to live in the wild for millions of years." he said in a TED Talk. "To them, our homes are their jungles(丛林)."
Cats' bodies and great balancing(平衡)abilities allow them to climb to high places to better look at the environment. Even though they don't have to hunt(猎食)any more in human houses, they still keep the old habit of observing the living room from, for example, the top of the fridge.
Cats' hunting abilities also make them attack small things like keys and USB drives.
In the wild, they hunt whatever they can get for food, and most of the animals they kill are small. However, a cat can also be prey. This explains why they like to stay in small spaces like drawers or washing machines—they are hiding, or they think they are hiding, from more dangerous animals. This is also why cats prefer a clean box: a dirty one with an unpleasant smell could easily show enemies where they are.
Knowing how cats' minds work is not only useful for better understanding them, it may also help cats' owners to better meet cats' needs. For example, owners could try to make climbing easier for cats by moving their furniture around. They could also use "food puzzles" to make eating feel more like hunting instead of just giving food to the cats.
【1】According to the passage, Tony Buffington agrees that ________.
A.cats' strange behavior is hard for people to understand
B.cats are more used to living in the wild than in humans' homes
C.cats' natural abilities are still helpful to make them get food today

A.an animal that lives in the jungles
B.an animal that likes keeping itself clean
C.an animal that likes playing hiding games with people
D.an animal that becomes others' food after being hunted
【3】According to the writer, cats' owners can better meet cats' needs by ________.
A.creating hunting games at home B.giving them delicious food
C.making them go back to the wild D.putting them in the furniture
【4】What is the writer's main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To describe cats' past wild experience to readers.
B.To tell cat owners how to make life easier for cats.
C.To explain the reasons behind cats' strange behavior.
D.To compare cats' behavior in human homes with that in the wild.
