21、A black hole is a place in outer space with very strong gravity. Gravity is a great force(力量) that shapes the universe. On Earth, gravity makes apples fall from trees. It keeps your feet planted on the ground. The gravity in a black hole is much stronger. It is so strong that nothing around it can get away from it, not even light.
Black holes are invisible. We can’t actually see them because they don’t throw back light. But scientists can find them with space telescopes and special tools. The strong gravity makes nearby stars move in a certain way. By studying how the stars move, scientists can find out if they are flying around a black hole. Strange things happen around black holes. This makes black holes a popular subject of science fiction(科幻)stories, although they are very unreal.
A black hole forms(形成)when a star dies. The star falls in on itself and turns into a very small point. Because of its small size and huge mass(质量), the gravity will be so strong that it will pull light in and become a black hole. Black holes can grow huge as they continue to pull other things in and “eat” them. Many scientists believe that there are super-massive black holes at the center of galaxies, including the Milky Way.
The idea of the black hole was first suggested by two different scientists in the 18th century: John Michelle and Pierre-Simon Laplace. In 1967, a physicist named John Archibald Wheeler came up with the name “black hole”. Studying black holes can tell us many things about our galaxy and help scientists answer questions about the universe.
【1】The word “invisible” in Paragraph 2 probably means “________”.
A.far to go
B.easy to find
C.difficult to catch
D.impossible to see
【2】The third paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.how big black holes are
B.how heavy black holes are
C.how black holes are formed
D.how black holes “eat” stars
【3】From the passage we learn ________.
A.a star’s moving path can help scientists find a black hole
B.writers love writing about black holes because they are real
C.many scientists believe that there aren’t any black holes at the center of the Milky Way
D.John Archibald Wheeler found the first black hole in space

23、
Over the last year, 30 students between the ages of 21 and 25 from the Netherlands took a year off from university to work on developing a solar-powered car. The car is called Stella Terra.
In order to create a car that could deal with the kind of tough driving the team was planning for, the students had to design the car from top to bottom.
On top, of course, were the solar panels (嵌板). Most solar panels are only about 20% efficient (有效的). That means they waste about 80% of the sunlight they get. But the Stella Terra’s solar panels are 97% efficient.
Like most electric cars, Stella Terra stores energy in a battery. Thanks to its powerful solar panels and its battery, when it’s sunny, the car can run for 440 miles a day. Stella Terra can carry two people, and has a top speed of 90 mph. The car weighs just 2,600 pounds. That’s about two-thirds the weight of a common car.
On the bottom, the team designed a system to help the car deal with heavy shaking that comes when driving over rough (粗糙的) surfaces.
The team recently took the car on its biggest test—a challenging 620-mile test drive across Morocco. The car had to travel through forests as well as dry riverbeds. It had to drive across desert sand and up mountain roads. The car succeeded in doing all of this.
The team is very proud of their car, and they won’t be upset if car companies start to copy their ideas. In fact, they hope that other car companies try to work on similar projects.

A.They are less efficient.
B.They are made by scientists.
C.They waste far less sunlight.
D.They can take in 80%of sunlight.
【3】What’s the fourth paragraph mainly about?
A.Some basic information on Stella Terra.
B.The way the solar panels work to run the car.
C.Difficulties the students met in making the car.
D.Stella Terra’s differences from most electric cars.
【4】What do we know about the test?
A.The car ran 600 miles in total.
B.It was a really successful test.
C.It was taken in the students’ country.
D.The car ran all kinds of roads for the test.
【5】What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To ask car companies to speed up.
B.To introduce some creative students.
C.To show a new solar-powered car.
D.To encourage students to follow the team.
