六、阅读理解 (共3题,共 15分)
  • 21、

We asked thirty young people between 14 and 18 several questions. All the children had computers at home. The average time spent on a computer in a week was about 12 hours, with the highest about 32 hours, and the lowest only 5 hours. Most children said they usually used computers to play games. Fourteen children told us they did some word-processing(文字处理) at times. Eight people told us they kept addresses and phone numbers on their computers or used them as diaries. Only three people said they were learning to write computer programs and nobody used databases(数据库). Only two of them said computers helped with their lessons. The diagram(表格) gives all the results one by one.

The results show that computer use is quite common among 14-18-year-old children. They also show quite clearly that computers are seen by most young people as little more than game machines. It means to us that, though computers are common(普遍) in the homes of young people, they have not yet become popular in everyday life.

Popcorn has been connected with cinemas and films for a long time. 【1】

Popcorn became very popular in North America in the 19th century and was sold at entertainment sites. It had a delicious smell when popped and this made many people buy it.

【2】 Cinema owners wanted to protect the expensive carpets (地毯) that they had put in their cinemas. They were also worried that the sound of people eating snacks would affect other people. So, salesmen set up popcorn machines outsides the cinemas.

As more and more people began buying popcorn on their way into the cinema, cinema owners started to understand that they could make money from it. 【3】 Finally, cinemas began selling snacks themselves.

【4】 Because popcorn is so cheap to make, cinemas make a lot of money on every box they sell. Yet, some people suggest that popcorn in cinemas may disappear someday. In recent years, good cinemas have become increasingly popular. These cinemas try to give people a more enjoyable experience by serving different kinds of food.

But it is impossible that popcorn will disappear completely from cinemas. For many of us, eating popcorn has become a part of the experience of watching a film. 【5】 Old habits, it seems, are hard to break.

A.Today popcorn is still important to cinemas.

B.Even when we watch a film on TV at home.

C.Popcorn was not sold inside the cinema at first.

D.Do you know how to make popcorn by yourselves?

E.But where did this connection begin and will it continue?

F.As a result, they decided to allow the salesmen to pay to sell popcorn in the cinema.
