26、Erica and Steve Lineberry have been rock climbing since 2005. They were first introduced to it while visiting a family in Montana. Now they are at climbing centers, like Inner Peaks in Charlotte, three times a week, and on weekends they climb outdoors.
Steve said they first started climbing as part of their exercise. Years later, he lost 60 pounds. But as the couple’s interest in the sport grew, they consulted some mentors and started climbing outdoors.
Then Erica got pregnant. “Most people think that rock climbing and pregnancy don’t go very well together,” Erica said. But with lots of places to go, Erica kept climbing through her pregnancy. Then her son, Ca-naan, was born. She says the baby immediately started participating in the family sport. “He went to the gym the first time with us at four weeks old, and then we took our first outdoor trip, just a day trip, at six weeks old with him.”
Now Canaan is three-year-old, and Erica is once again pregnant: 7 months along. During her first preg-nancy, she blogged about climbing while pregnant. Now her Cragmama. com website is a top resource for families who rock climb. Erica said, “I think a lot of people will say, they’ll wait a few years until they get into an easier age or an easier life phase with their kids. And I think if they wait for that they’re going to wait forever. ” Her message to women is to quickly climb back into the things you love; and that your life is not over once you are a mother.
Cragmama.com website is quickly becoming the face of mommy rock climbing. She contributes to a handful of climbing magazines. Outdoor equipment companies ask her to wear and use their gear (设备). And her website is a popular resource for families who are not only interested in climbing with their children, but also interested in taking on other adventures too.

28、Although orcas(虎肆), also known as killer whales, are famous for their attacks on sea animals, they are never a threat to humans. However, since late July, the normally social animals have been purposely attacking sailboats off the coasts of Spain and Portugal.
The strange behavior first reported on July 29, 2020, when a 46-foot boat was repeatedly attacked for almost an hour by nine orcas, almost turning the boat over and having its engine turned off. Since then. over 30 more similar incidents have been reported.
Researchers across the world are trying to explain the orcas’ behavior. Some believe it could be a result of the overfishing of the bluefin tuna-the orcas’ main food source-which has made the area’s killer whales hungry and unable to feed their babies. “I saw them look at boats carrying fish. I think they know humans are related to food shortages,”says Ken Balcomb, senior scientist at the Center for Whale Research in USA. The environmentalists believe that there is another reason for the agitation. They think the orcas’ behavior could also be caused by the sudden increase in boat. Human beings sail across the sea again, after months of restrictions(限制)on human activity last spring
However, Alfredo López, a biology professor in Spain, thinks the attacks are preventive (预防性) measures the orcas took to guard themselves against boat injuries. The researcher made such a summary after looking at the videos of a few incidents and noticing that two of the young killer whales involved had serious injuries. Hopefully, the experts will be able to find a way to bring the peace between the animals and the humans back soon.

29、Many animals move from one place to another at certain times of the year. 【1】 They migrate to find food, seek a partner, or in search of warmer weather. One of the most wonderful migrations in nature is that of the North American monarch butterfly.
Every autumn, millions of these beautiful insects begin a long and difficult journey. Somehow they manage to travel around 4,000 kilometres south and find their way to California or Mexico. 【2】
A team of scientists has now found the answer. They have found out that the monarch is able to tell the time of day. 【3】 These two pieces of information — the time of day and the point where the sun is in the sky —allow the butterfly to determine the way to go. Eventually, it manages to reach the places where it will spend the winter.
The solution to the mystery of the monarch’s amazing ability comes at a time when it is in serious trouble. 【4】 Sadly, human activity is the main reason why the number of monarch butterflies is falling. In many of the places where the butterfly can be found, people are destroying the natural environment. They cut down trees and use chemicals that kill the plants that monarch caterpillars eat.
【5】 People have been recording its migration and make sure that there are enough plants for it to feed on. If this works, there may come a time when the number of monarch butterflies increases once again. The more we know about this lovely creature, the greater the chance it will survive and keep its place in the natural world for a long time to come.
A.They begin to return north in the spring.
B.This annual movement is called migration.
C.It uses its eyes to measure the position of the sun.
D.However, until recently no one knew how they did this.
E.The most common type of migration is seasonal migration.

Among the note-taking forms in today’s US schools, the Cornell method is widely recommended. Providing a form for concentrating and organizing notes, the Cornell method sets up a system to direct students to 【1】 the paper into two columns. The note-taking column, which is usually on the right, is twice the size of the key word column on the left. The student should leave five to seven lines blank, at the bottom of the page.
Notes from a lecture or teaching occupy the note-taking column which 【2】 contain the main ideas of the textbook or lecture. Most 【3】 ideas and long sentences are avoided while 【4】 or abbreviations (缩写) are preferred instead. To assist with future reviews, 【5】 thoughts or questions should be noted down as soon as possible so that the students may 【6】 to these points for reflection or further research. The key-word column is a(n) 【7】 place to note down these ideas. These ideas may later turn into potential research results as students are always encouraged to reflect on the notes 【8】 or go deep into the questions further.
Within 24 hours after the note-taking, the student must revise and then produce a short summary in the bottom space. Such move helps him to 【9】 the topic better. When preparing for a test, the student has 【10】 to a brief but detailed record of the previous classes.
32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The MP3 has become a new fashion on campus. I had long dreamed of owning a MP3. The more MP3 owners were on campus, the stronger my desire (渴望) became. Finally, during one of my monthly visits home, I begged my parents to let me buy one, “Dad, Mom, I ... I want to buy a MP3 ... , the one for …”
I swallowed (吞咽) the rest of my words. Did I really need to explain what a MP3 was? Surely everybody knew!
At first there was no response from my parents. But my little brother replied eagerly, “Me too!”
Then finally my dad spoke, “What! What is it for? This little stuff breaks down soon after you get it! It’s an absolutely useless expense (花费) …”
Then, I had an idea. When the summer vacation came, I lied to my parents that I couldn’t stay at home, because the school had supplementary (附加的) programs. As a result, I earned my money for a new MP3 through my part-time job.
I was at home the night before my new school when Mom came into my room. She sat on my bed, and patted me on the shoulder. Then she handed me a small box. “Take this. Don’t tell your father ... Now, study hard, okay?” she said softly.
“Mom, how did you ... ?” I asked.
“It’s from my own savings. Your father doesn’t know.” I sat alone for a long time with my new MP3, weeping (哭泣) silently.
When I went back to school, I decided to give up my part-time job so that I could study harder for my parents, for my dream. My motivation (动机) to study has never been so strong.
