二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、There are 10 provinces (省) in Canada. British Columbia is known as a great attraction for tourists, Alberta is known for its oil and natural gas, and Saskatchewan is known for its large wheat fields. Ontario is known as being the business center of the country. But Quebec is best known for being different from the rest of Canada. It is “the French Canada” because of its large French-speaking population, some of whom want to break away from the other English speaking provinces of Canada.

In Canada, most people speak English as their first language and the two national television networks broadcast in English throughout the country. Apart from in Quebec and a few places on the east coast, there are few television programs in French.

The same goes for traffic signs and menus. For example, outside of Quebec, there are only a few places where you’ll see traffic signs in French. In restaurants, it’s almost impossible to find French on the menu unless you are in the heartland of French Canada. However, all products sold in Canada must, by law, have labels (标签) and instructions in both languages.

Canada is now one of the few nations in the world to have two official languages: English and French. In Canada’s English speaking provinces, the two-official-language reality means that students can choose to complete a special French language course. If they begin the course in kindergarten or Grade One, it is likely that all their lessons will be in French. However, if they start at junior high school, 25 percent of the teaching will continue to be in English.

【1】Which province in Canada is known for tourism?

    A.Alberta.

    B.Ontario.

    C.Saskatchewan.

    D.British Columbia.

【2】Where can you watch French television programs?

    A.Only in Quebec.

B.In Quebec and a few other places.

    C.All over Canada.

D.From the two national TV networks.

【3】Which of the following has to be in both English and French across Canada?

    A.Traffic signs.

    B.Menus in restaurants.

    C.All popular books.

    D.Instructions on all products.

【4】What do we know about the education in Canada?

A.All the courses in primary school are taught in English.

B.Students are allowed to study all their subjects in French.

C.Only French courses are offered in the French speaking provinces.

D.25% of the courses in junior high schools are just taught in English.

  • 27、The reason why women love to spend hours in shops while men prefer to be in and out of the high street in minutes can trace back(追溯) to their hunter-gathering past, find scientists.

While women spent their days gathering food, often with children, men were hunters who made plans about how to catch and kill their prey (猎物). These two ways of getting food in the past show how we shop in modern times, the study believes.

Women would spend hours trying to find the right things, because they had in the past spent ages trying to find the best quality and health-giving food. Men, on the other hand, decided in advance what animal they wanted to kill and then went looking for it. Once it was found and killed, they returned home.

Daniel Kruger, professor of the University of Michigan, said the study could be the answer to why there are a lot of collisions when couples go shopping together. He said it could also help couples to avoid fights in the shops if they understood the reasons why each sex had different ways of deciding on the perfect present.

“In modern times, women are much more likely than men to know when a specific type of item will go on sale. Women also spend much more time choosing the perfect color and texture.”

Professor Kruger said his study was important because if men and women understood each other’s shopping habits they could avoid arguments while shopping.

【1】What has decided the different shopping habits of men and women?

    A. Different ways of keeping food in the past.

    B. Different ways of eating in the past.

    C. Different ways of buying food in the past.

    D. Different ways of gathering food in the past.

2In comparison(比较) with men, women were less likely to_____.

    A. catch the right animal and kill it.

    B. spend much time on shopping.

    C. choose the right color and texture.

    D. know when a specific item was on sale.

3What does the underlined word mean in the fourth paragraph?

    A. Requests   B. Arguments.

    C. Concerns. D. Differences.

4According to Kruger, his study can help to _____.

    A. develop good shopping habits.

    B. avoid arguments in shopping between men and women.

    C. give people tips on choosing good gifts.

    D. make sure people buy safe food for children.

  • 28、4 Apps to Enhance Distance Learning

Distance learning has become the new form of education since schools closed, and teachers have adapted – with the help of some truly amazing online applications.

    Google Classroom

This popular application allows teachers to create online forums(论坛) to share courses, news, or lessons as well as a platform to assign, collect, and give feedback on student work. I’ve used Google Classroom for years, and it has become the cornerstone of my classroom throughout distance learning.

    Google Forms

This application is often used to gather information in a variety of contexts(surveys, tests, etc.). Its test feature can be enabled to block users from opening other windows. It also offers auto-grading for multiple-choice tests. It has become a daily application in my classes during distance learning. I use it for pre-assessments, tests, and surveys.

    Flipgrid

Flipgrid is a free online application that allows students and teachers to record short online videos. Teachers can easily create accounts and then within accounts create “classrooms.” From there, teachers can create posts for students to respond to via(通过) short videos.

    Google Meet

Google Meet is an online meeting platform where teachers can share their screens with all participants to see as well as record the meeting. I’ve recorded all of my daily lessons and then posted the recordings to Google Classroom at the request of my students. This is a practice I’d like to continue even after distance learning as students really like the option to return to a recording of the day’s lesson to review it at their own pace.

【1】Which application is perfect for tests?

    A.Flipgrid.

    B.Google Meet.

    C.Google Forms.

    D.Google Classroom.

【2】What is a useful feature of Google Meet?

A.Responding to posts with short videos.

    B.Recording lessons for review.

C.Creating online forums to share news.

    D.Auto-grading students’ assignments.

【3】What can we infer about the author?

    A.He is a teacher.

    B.He is an app designer.

C.He is tired of distance learning.

D.He is addicted to new technologies.

  • 29、   I was eleven years old standing outside in just my underwear while I watched the house that I grew up in rapidly burn to the ground.

A few minutes earlier I had been in bed when a scream woke me up. My grandma’s bedroom was just next to mine and my elder brother’s. A fire had broken out there and awakened her. Hearing her scream, my elder brother jumped to action, running from room to room quickly to wake everyone in the house. However, before we could do anything, the fire had consumed (烧毁) the old and wooden house.

I stood there shivering (颤抖) while the fire destroyed my books, clothes, and toys. I watched helplessly while my Mom cried and my Dad sighed. I wondered what was going to happen to us now that we had lost all of our things. As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: What matters aren’t things. I saw my elder brother running across the swinging (摇摆的) bridge by our house to get help. I saw my eldest brother who was on crutches (拐棍) from an earlier accident standing unsteadily on one leg. I saw my grandma and dad wrapped in each other’s arms and my mum holding our little dog. I realized at that moment that we were all alive. Everything that was essential had survived the fire. Our lives would continue. We would survive without the “stuff” that was burning. We would all be around to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.

I still think of that fire at night. It helped me to become who I am today. It showed me for the very first time what is truly essential in life. It helped me to learn that the love we share is far more important than the things we possess.

Live your life then for the things that matter, not for the things you own. Love others. Let the fire inside of you make this world a warmer place. Let your soul shine bright.

1Who first found the house was on fire?

    A.The author. B.The grandma.

    C.The elder brother. D.A passer-by.

2How did the author probably feel when they all made it outside?

A.Exited and worried. B.Worried but lucky.

C.Unhappy and upset. D.Happy but worried.

3What does the underlined word “essential” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?

    A.Important. B.Perfect.

    C.Amazing. D.Unique.

4What could be the best title for the passage?

A.We all have each other B.The magic of a fire

C.Growing up with memory D.Ways to be a better man
