26、During this year's Spring Festival, Ma Rui made a meme(表情包)by collaging(拼贴)her portrait and images of firecrackers and golden coins. Ma sent it to relatives and friends on social media as her new year's greeting.
“Traditional text greetings are tedious. A meme sticker of myself is more creative and personal,” said Ma, a 38-year-old woman working in Yinchuan. As a regular meme maker, Ma also made her cat and dog the main characters of her creations. With her ever-increasing meme collection, she can deal with most online communications by sending memes without sending a text message On China's most popular social networking apps WeChat and QQ, many users have developed the habit of collecting memes in their accounts, including those featuring celebrities, animals, and cartoon characters. Ma has been using emojis and memes on Wechat for about 10 years, but they were limited in the past.
In recent years, meme-making has become a new trend, with the emergence of more designers and apps for making memes. With free apps, people can create their own memes and share them online. As an industry,meme-making can also bring decent incomes for meme designers, injecting vitality into related products and industries. “A good meme can accurately express what one means and reduce misunderstanding and embarrassment. This is why people need it,” said Luo Yalong, a 30-year-old meme designer.
Luo created a cartoon character named “Little Chubby Inu.” With this image, he designed nearly one thousand memes with different expressions, which have been used billions of times on WeChat since it was first introduced in 2017.
The image of Little Chubby Inu has also been printed on T-Shirts, mugs, and cosmetics and packages of popular drink brands. This year, Luo opened an online store for Little Chubby Inu-themed products.
By drawing inspiration from popular websites young people like to visit, Luo has become a prolific meme-maker, creating a new series of memes every two or three months. “Attractive memes are emerging every day, while users' tastes are ever-changing. For us designers, it causes great pressure but also presents immense opportunities,” Luo said.

27、 There is virtue in working standing up. It sounds like a fashion. But it does have a basis in science.
That, by itself, may not be surprising. Health ministries ask people for decades to do more exercise. What is surprising is that long periods of inactivity are bad regardless of how much time you also spend on officially approved high-impact stuff like pounding treadmills(跑步机) in the gym. What you need instead, the latest research suggests, is constant low-level activity. This can be so low-level that you might not think of it as activity at all. Even just standing up counts, for it invokes muscles that sitting does not.
Researchers in this field trace the history of the idea that standing up is good for you back to 1953, when a study published in The Lancet found that bus conductors, who spent their days standing, had a risk of heart attack half that of bus drivers, who spent their shifts on their backsides. But as the health benefits of exercise and vigorous(强度大的) physical activity began to become clear in the 1970s, says David Dunstan, a researcher at the Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia, interest in low-intensity activity --- like walking and standing --- became weaker.
Over the past few years, however, interest has been excited again. A series of studies, none big enough to provide convincing evidence, but all pointing in the same direction, persuaded Emma Wilmot of the University of Leicester, in Britain, to carry out a meta-analysis. This is a technique that combines diverse studies in a statistically meaningful way. Dr Wilmot combined 18 of them, covering almost 800,000 people and concluded that those individuals who are the least active in their normal daily lives are twice as likely to develop diabetes(糖尿病) as those who are the most active. She also found that the immobile are twice as likely to die from a heart attack and two-and-a-half times as likely to suffer cardiovascular disease as the most mobile. Crucially, all this seemed to be independent of the amount of vigorous, gym-style exercise that volunteers did.
【1】The surprising thing mentioned in Paragraph 2 is that ______.
A. Low-level activities are better than high-level ones.
B. Long periods of inactivity are bad to people’s health
C. The benefits of high-impact exercise are not highly approved by people
D. Strong physical activities cannot make up for the bad effects of inactivity.
【2】Why did people lose interest in low-intensity activity in the 1970s?
A. Researchers didn’t devote much to studying their health benefits.
B. The health benefits of high-impact exercise were widely recognized.
C. It was believed to be unable to invoke all the muscles of the body.
D. It was proved not so effective in reducing the risk of heart attacks.
【3】The findings made by Dr Wilmot ______.
A. disagreed with her assumption
B. consisted with the results of the 1953 study
C. changed her original research objectives
D. confirmed David Dunstan’s research results
【4】What’s the passage mainly about?
A. The history of the theory.
B. The benefits of standing up.
C. Low-level activity and health.
D. A series of epidemiological studies.

29、 By 11:00, Gopamma knew something was wrong. Her husband, Hanutha, should have returned from collecting firewood an hour before.Gopamma sent for her son, who gathered a search party and headed to Bandipur Tiger Reserve, a nearby national park in south-western India. Just inside the forest, they discovered Hanutha’s half-eaten remains. The tiger that killed him was still sitting next to the body.
In the face of her husband’s death, Gopamma struggled not only with grief but economic hardship. Her son had to drop out of university. “My life was much better when my husband was alive,” she says. “My older son could have studied, but now both of my sons have to work. I feel insecure and dependent.”
Despite all this, Gopamma feels no hate toward the tiger that killed her husband. Like many Hindus in India, she views humans and creatures, each with an equal right to existence. Her husband’s death, she says, has nothing to do with the fact that the government is trying to save tigers: “This was my fate.”
Rural Indians are unique in the world for their high tolerance for co-existing with potentially deadly wildlife. “You don’t find this in other cultures,” says Ullas, a biologist at the Wildlife Conservation Society and a leading expert on tigers. “If this kind of thing happened in Montana or Brazil, they’d wipe out everything the next day.”
The country holds just 25% of total tiger habitat, but accounts for 70% of all remaining wild tigers, or around 3,000 animals today.Success does not come without cost, however. They still have a lot of difficulties with tigers breaking into human-dominated places in certain parts of India, livestock(牲畜) are killed and sometimes so are people.
Some animal activists think that there are too few tigers left in the wild ,so even one shouldn’t be killed.Tigers are treasures, we’d better live with them together.
【1】Which of the following words can replace the underlined word “remains” in the first paragraph?
A.ashes B.body C.rest D.flesh
【2】How was Gopamma’s life after her husband’s death?
A.She suffered financial difficulties.
B.Her life was much better than before.
C.She hated the tiger and was in deep sorrow.
D.She became independent and supported her sons with their studies.
【3】The sentence “You don’t find this in other cultures.” in the fourth paragraph implies ______.
A.Other cultures keep tigers as pets.
B.Other cultures can kill tigers casually.
C.Rural Indians can bear the killing caused by the tiger.
D.People wipe out the tigers once they see them in Montana or Brazil.
【4】What can we know from the article ?
A.Gopamma’s two sons used to study in the university.
B.Tigers often break into indians’ houses and kill the villagers.
C.Gopamma knew something was wrong in the early morning.
D.Hanutha was found killed in the forest in a national park.

When ten million passwords were leaked on to the internet, they appeared to 【2】that attempts by internet security experts to make us improve our password strength had been successful, even if, in the specific case of the leaked passwords, they are also completely pointless.
While many of the passwords were still single words, such as “password”,there was also a clear attempt by many to make them harder to【3】. The problem was that people seemed to do so in the same way.
“Users are becoming slightly more 【4】what makes a password strong,” explained WP Engine, an internet company that performed the analysis. “For instance, adding a number or two at the end of a text phrase. That makes it better, right?”
But 【5】no. They found that almost half a million passwords did this and in 20 percent of those all people did was put the number “1” at the end.
Perhaps this is why some companies are now trying to move gradually beyond passwords. Yahoo! is giving users the option to 【6】 their mobile phone with an account, having a single use passwords texted to it each time they want to log on.
Although the serviced is voluntary, Dylan Casey an executive at Yahoo!,said that it was “the first step to【7】passwords”. It would certainly be a more sensible strategy than same people’s improving upon “password” by using “password” or,“tran5p053d numb3r5 f0r 133tr3r5”.
“We are, for the most part,predictably【9】when it comes to choosing passwords, despite a decade of warnings from password strength checkers during sign-ups” said WP Engine. “We love taking a(n) 【10】, and so do password crackers.

Smell the flowers before you go to sleep and you may just end up with rosy dreams. Have a whiff of rotten(腐烂的)eggs during the night and your dreams may be【1】(pleasant). So says researcher Dr. Boris Stuck, 【2】invited sleeping volunteers to a rose vs. rotten egg test in the University Hospital Mannheim in Germany. The subjects didn’t dream about roses【3】eggs, but rather he found that what they smelt affected the emotions of【4】(they) dreams.
And if you think【5】(smell) have a say in dreams, wait for what TV tells us. A UK study reveals that people exposed【6】black-and-white film and TV in their youth are to have monochromic(单色的)dreams throughout their life more【7】(probable). Eva Murzyn from the University of Dundee tested two age groups— one half 【8】(age) over 55 and【9】other half under 25.

After my son, Scott, graduated from high school he took a job near his father. Two thousand miles suddenly separated me from the person who’d been the focus of my life for 18 years. As the days went by, I missed Scott more and more. I’d always been able to take care of myself, but now I seemed to need Scott’s help constantly, like getting a tool from the top shelf, or moving something heavy, or changing a tire on the car. Most of all, I just missed having him to talk to. I was lonely. I knew this day would come. But why does it have to be so hard?
However, a mother spider taught me a lesson.
On my way out from my storeroom, I noticed a spider building her web across the top corner of the doorway. I reached for a hoe(锄头)m, tore down the web, and watched the giant spider run away in the grass. She was back the very next morning, in the exact same spot, busily rebuilding. I stared for a moment, and then reached for the hoe again. Then I twisted the hoe round and round, catching the spider in her own web. I carried her far into my backyard, shook the hoe and watched her fall to the ground, disappearing in the bush. The third morning, I stopped short as I entered the storeroom. The spider was back in the same corner of the door frame, her web almost completed again. I reached for the hoe, but stopped. She wants her web where she wants it, I thought, and that kind of perseverance(毅力)should pay off. I stepped back and watched her long legs busily knitting the web.
For the next few weeks, the spider and I were close neighbors. One particularly boring day, I was feeling so down that I didn’t even glance up at my spider as I entered. As I stared in wonder, I found a hundred tiny angels on the floor. I realized that these were baby spiders that the eggs had hatched, and already, as the mother watched from the corner of the home that she had built, her young were making their way to the ground.

A tradesman was leading a caravan (商队) to another country to sell his goods. Along the way they came to the edge of a hot-sand desert. They learnt that during the daytime the sun heated up the fine sand until it was as hot as charcoal (木炭), so no one could walk on it — not even camels! Then the caravan leader hired a desert guide, one who could follow the stars, so they could travel only at night when the sand cooled down. The guide sat on the first cart. And they began the dangerous night-time journey across the desert. A couple of nights later, after eating their evening meal and waiting for the sand to cool, they started out again.
Later that night, the desert guide, who was driving the first cart, saw from the stars that they were getting close to the other side of the desert. He had been very tired, so when he relaxed, he fell asleep. Then the camels who, of course, couldn’t tell directions by reading the stars, gradually turned to the side and went in a big wide circle until they ended up at the same place that they started from! By then it was morning, and the people woke up and realized they were back at the same spot where they started. They lost heart and began to cry about their condition. Since the desert crossing was supposed to be over by now, they had no more water, and they were worried about there was nothing to drink, and were extremely afraid they would die of thirst. They even began to blame the caravan leader and the desert guide. However, the leader himself didn’t lose courage. He talked with the desert guide and then they began wandering, trying to work out a plan.
