  • 27、   Though pigs may never fly, a two-year-old pig in Franschhoek, South Africa is proving they sure can paint! Meet Pigcasso, the world's first known pig artist whose masterpieces are selling for thousands of dollars to benefit Farm Sanctuary S. A. , Africa's only registered shelter for rescued farm animals.

Joanne Lefson, who saved Pigcasso from a slaughterhouse(屠宰场) two years ago, discovered the animal's artistic talent accidentally. The South African activist says, of the numerous toys presented to keep the then four-week-old piglet entertained, it was the paintbrushes that seemed to attract her the most. "They were the only thing she didn't eat," Lefson quips.

The rescuer decided to present the pig with canvas and paint and see what happened. To her delight, Pigcasso began creating works of art that can best be described as "abstract expressionism". Now weighing a hefty(重量)450 pounds, the celebrated pig, who loves to paint the area's scenic landscapes, has a dedicated "studio" at Farm Sanctuary S.A. where she resides. Lefson says, "I do not force her to paint. She paints when she wants to. "

Pigcasso's artwork, which has thus far been sold online, is currently on display at Cape Town's picturesque Victoria ~ Alfred Waterfront. Dubbed "Oink", the pop-up exhibition will run through March 5before heading to London-Paris-Berlin, and Amsterdam. Lefson says its main aim is to highlight the effect of animal agriculture on the planet and inspire change.

While Pigcasso is the first pig and first nonhuman to headline an exhibition, she is not the first animal to create masterpieces. Elephants, sea lions, and even penguins have shown similar artistic talent--in exchange for some treats, of course!

1Which of the following shows Pigcasso is good at painting?

    A. She can fly everywhere.

    B. She likes all kinds of toys.

    C. She is interested in the paintbrushes.

    D. She enjoys eating the paintbrushes.

2How did Lefson feel when she saw Pigcasso creating works?

    A. Pleased. B. Puzzled.

    C. Worried. D. Frightened.

3What can we know from Paragraph 4?

    A. Animal agriculture is important.

    B. Pigcasso can make a lot of money.

    C. Pigcasso will be sold online soon.

    D. Pigcasso's artwork will be shown in a few cities.

4The author mentions elephants, sea lions and penguins in Paragraph 5 to tell us that _____ .

    A. they are very naughty.

    B. they have artistic skills.

    C. they are as strong as Pigcasso.

    D. their appearances are similar to each other.

  • 28、   Weight is defined as the quantity of matter contained by a body or object. 1 So many girls are struggling with the numbers associated with their body image and it’s really sad seeing such beautiful girls become discouraged over a few numbers that don’t measure anything of true significance.

Yes, it is important to live a healthy lifestyle.2 Neglecting either your mental or physical health will cause problems for the other. It’s very easy to get caught up in the idea that you’re too heavy or too thin, which results in your mistreating your body in some way.

3 It harbors all of your thoughts, feelings, characteristics, and ideas. Without it, you wouldn’t be you. If you wish to change it in a healthy way, then, by all means, go ahead. With that being said, don’t make changes to impress or please someone else.4

    5. You are more than the number on the scale (磅秤). You are more than the number on your jeans and dresses. You are way more than the number of pounds you’ve gained or lost in whatever amount of time. So, as hard as it may seem sometimes, understand that the number doesn’t measure the amount or significance of your contributions to this world. The fact that a dress doesn’t fit you like you had hoped doesn’t mean that you’re any less of a person.

A.Overweight and obesity may increase the risk of many health problems.

B.Your body is your special, beautiful temple.

C.You are the only person who is in charge of your body.

D.Your physical health may play an important part in your life.

E.Weight does not define your self-worth, ambition or potential.

F.Taking care of yourself includes your mental health as well, however.

G.It’s not about the size of your jeans, but the size of your heart, soul, and spirit.

  • 29、   Like most people living in the suburb, Janice Monkowski, who lives some 30 miles east of San Francisco, gets around mainly by car. For much of her life, public transportation was not even an afterthought. That changed recently when Monkowski, a selfdescribed technophobe(技术恐惧者), discovered Moovit. When she goes to San Francisco to meet friends, the smart- phone app let her plan bus and train trips down to the minute. “Moovit tells me where to walk and how long it might take to catch a bus to get to the train station,” Monkowski says.

Much like the navigation app Waze, which follows its users on the road to determine the best driving routes Moovit collects location data of nearby users to show how to travel along the way with less time and energy between two locations. Nir Erez who cofounded Moovit says, “Most commuters(每天长途上班的人) don’t know when a bus might arrive, let alone how it might connect with another transit service, or when walking or bicycling might be faster.”

In just several years Moovit has had 100 million users. Moovit is available in 44 languages and 82 countries, and commuters in more than 2,500 cities rely on it to get to and from work. In 2016 Moovit became the official transit app for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2018, Moovit was also chosen as the official mobility app of the Asian Games. When public transit doesn’t get a user all the way to where they want to go, Moovit may connect her to bikeshare programs or services like Uber.

As Moovit has grown to 100 employees, with headquarters(总部) near Tel Aviv and offices in big cities such as San Francisco, Athens and Rio, Moovit can provide better, more uptodate information at a lower cost. Best of all: It’s all built one data point at a time by people like Monkowski. When you go to San Francisco and don't want to drive before the city’s “terrible” parking and traffic, Moovit can give you another option. It’s very simple.

1How does Moovit help Janice Monkowski?

A.By helping her have a comfortable trip.

B.By helping her learn advanced technology.

C.By helping her balance her tight travel budget.

D.By helping her arrive at where she wants to go.

2What is the advantage of Moovit?

    A.It provides more good services.

    B.It involves more simple orders.

C.It predicts the most efficient trip.

    D.It stores more available information.

3What does the author want to show us in the last paragraph?

    A.The exact location of Moovit.

    B.The bright future of Moovit.

    C.The development of big cities.

D.Some special opinions on public transportation.

4What’s the best title for the text?

    A.The wide use of Moovit

    B.The unique development of Moovit

    C.The quick development of Moovit

    D.The obvious advantage of Moovit

AI artwork sells for $432,500 — nearly 45 times its high1 — as Christie’s becomes the first auction house to offer a work of art created by an algorithm. This portrait, however, is not the product of a human mind. It was created by an2 intelligence, an algorithm defined by that algebraic formula with its many parentheses. And when it went under the3 in the Prints & Multiples sale at Christie’s on 23-25 October, Portrait of Edmond Belamy sold for an4 $432,500, signaling the arrival of AI art on the world auction stage.

From a distance, Portrait of Edmond de Belamy looks almost plausible. Up close, however, the paintwork becomes a grid of mechanical-looking dots, the man’s face a golden blur with black holes for eyes. Look into those eyes. They show no sign of feeling or life. Did a computer make this?

The answer is yes. The first artwork5 by AI to be sold at Christie’s, its6 price would seem to suggest that in future we will get computers to make art for us. Robot van Gogh will harmlessly cut its ear off and robot Picasso will be a genius.

Is this the future AI art visionaries such as the French collective Obvious, which programmed this “painter” by getting it to compare its own work with 15,000 pre-20th century portraits, have in mind? Or are they just, God forbid, making a fast buck from deceivable art collectors? Because believing the algorithm that knocked this up to be in any meaningful way an “artist” is like thinking your voice-interaction programme is out to get you. Dream on. Computers would need to replicate human consciousness before they could replicate the funny thing humans do called “art”.

Art is a way in which human 7 expresses itself, and is equally true of the earliest cave art, Rembrandt’s portraits and Duchamp’s urinal. And that is what is missing from Portrait of Edmond Bellamy. Art is a way humans communicate ideas, perceptions and feelings to each other. It has no 8 outside the human passion to communicate. So in what meaningful sense can an AI replica of certain9 traits of old master paintings be called art?

For a robot to really make art, it would need an autonomous mind that was emotional as well as10. No AI developer has yet claimed to be anywhere near achieving that and if they ever do, their creation will probably have better things to do than paint portraits — like destroy humanity.

Maybe afterwards robots will invent their own kind of art, but it won’t be some poor pastiche of human genius.

It will be beyond anything we organics could imagine.

Tablets are really useful devices, but their big screens always make them a burden to carry around without a bag. Wouldn’t it be great if there were a phone with the powers of a tablet that could be folded up and fit 1 into the hand?

Now something like a tablet-shaped but fold-able phone is about to become 2. In February, South Korean electronics company Samsung and China’s Huawei both unveiled fold-able phones Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X 3. Mobile phone use has entered the “fold-able future”, The Verge noted.

The technology could change our lives in significant ways. These devices, due to their 4 screens, give us the larger screens we want. Meanwhile, they still fit easily into the pocket. As USA Today noted, they’re “the 5 of a small tablets and smart-phone, all in a single device”.

The technology could 6 other devices too. For example, we could make TVs that stick to walls like posters, or fold up easily to hide away in drawers. In crowded modem cities, they will help us to 7 available space.

In a keynote address, Samsung’s senior vice president of mobile product marketing, Justin Denison, called the fold-able screen “the 8 for the smart-phone of tomorrow.” “It’s a balank canvas for us to do something beautiful together,” he said.

So is there nothing to stand in the way of the fold-able future?

According to tech news website Android authority, the necessary displays were difficult to produce. In 2012, nine out of every to OLED screens produced were 9. Today, that 10 percent rate has been improved to between 50 and 90 percent. However, at present these fold-able devices are expensive. For example, the price of Huawei Mate X is 17,500 RMB. That’s a price that may 10 the majority of people.

But if the fold-able device isn’t going to change the world overnight, there is no doubt that it is coming.

Patrick Moor-head, an industry analyst told The Verge, “Few are debating if fold-able or roll-able mobile displays are the future of smart-phones; the only question is when and by whom.”

  • 41、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

A new study warns that about thirty percent of the world’s people may not have enough water by the year 2025.

A private American organization called Population Action International (PAI) did the new study. It says more than 335 million people lack enough water now. The people live in 28 countries. Most of the countries are in Africa or the Middle East.

PAI researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025, about 3,000 million people may lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to have severe water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on the Earth stays the same.

Mr Engelman says the population in countries that lack water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.

The report says lack of water in the future may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking water is not safe. Mr Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera which are carried in water.

Lack of water may also result in more international conflict. Countries may have to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get sixty percent of their fresh water from other countries. And the report says lack of water would affect the ability to improve their economies. This is because new industries often need large amounts of water when they are beginning.

The Population Action International study gives several solutions to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people to be careful not to waste water. A third way is to use less water for agriculture. The report also says long-term solutions to the water problem must include controls on population growth.
