26、Just Go to University
For any student, going to university is one of the most important stages of their lives. It is a time when a young person will move out of their home to be independent. 【1】 Are you ready for such an exploration? The following information may be helpful.
· Why should you go to university?
Learning is a lifelong process. University is the right place where you can learn both academically and socially. At university, you will be taught by leading lecturers in their fields of study. 【2】 Meanwhile, you will meet people with different.
【3】
Once you have decided that you do want to go to university, how can you choose a dream one? 【4】 Your interest, the major and the course to be taken are all the concerns. Many universities have open days or send tutors out to talk to the students on what they offer. This also gives you a chance to ask questions. Finding out what their predicted exam grades will also help students determine which university may be the most suitable.
· Why can you learn at university?
In many universities, each student begins with a general knowledge base in the first year. Students can have more time to explore their interests before committing to a specific subject. Apart from the academic achievements, various societies, where freshmen can meet like-minded friends, offer you chances to develop the extra-curricular interests in many fields.【5】
A.How can you choose a university?
B.You have to first think of various aspects.
C.What should you prepare before going to university?
D.You can thus equip yourself with enough academic knowledge.
E.Besides, it is a great honor to be admitted into such a university.

27、 There are numerous “secrets” out there on attaining success. The vast majority of these so called secrets all have one thing in common – Attitude.
【1】
The key to developing a successful attitude is to decide that there are certain things in life that you need, rather than merely want. For example, do you want a luxury house? 【2】 Do you want fame and fortune in your career?
Sure, everyone wants these things. 【3】 That is because it’s never enough to merely want something. You have to be the type of individual who feels that they need these things in order to survive. This gives you the motivation to work towards your dream and do whatever it takes – except, of course, for breaking laws or hurting people – to get there. And all this must be done with the “fuel” of a positive attitude.
How do you begin to change your attitude?
It is always useful to connect with useful resources outside us in changing our attitude for the better. 【4】 Try to pay closer attention to your inner thoughts.
Realizing where negative thoughts come from can help us get to the point where we are able to erase them. Once they are erased, it is vital to replace them with more positive thoughts. 【5】
Perhaps your friends and loved ones will not understand the new you. But you can become a role model for them — and it begins by developing a positive attitude!
A.What do you need?
B.Do you want a lot of money?
C.What is the secret to Success?
D.Do you find yourself constantly in doubt?
E.However, the change will always begin inside you.
F.Problem is, very few people are able to attain them.
G.This is how we begin to make an attitude adjustment.
28、 Humans share Earth with many different kinds of wildlife. However, many of our animal friends may not be around for much longer.
According to the Living Planet Report released by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in October, the populations of animals including mammals, birds and fish have fallen by an average of 60 percent since 1970.
“We are sleepwalking towards the edge of a cliff (悬崖), Mike Barrett, executive director of science and conservation at WWF, told the Guardian. “If there was a 60 percent decline (下降) in the human population, that would be equivalent (等于) to emptying North America, South America, Africa, Europe, China and Oceania."
According to the report, one of the biggest causes of wildlife losses is human activity. Three- quarters of the world's land is largely affected by human activity. Many natural habitats (栖息地) have been destroyed to create farmland.
About 300 mammal species are dying out because we eat them. Another example is the industrial over fishing of the oceans, the Guardian noted.
“The astonishing decline in wildlife population…is a reminder and perhaps the ultimate (最终的) sign of the pressure we exert (施加) on the plane,” Marco Lambertini, the director general of the WWF, wrote in the report.
These developments lead scientists to believe that there could be a sixth mass extinction, the first to be caused by humans according to the Guardian. There have been five mass extinction before, the last being 655 million years ago. That time it was the dinosaurs that died out.
WWF has called on world governments and businesses to strike a deal to protect people and nature.
Neither is the situation in China promising. According to a report by China Daily in November, Chinese paddlefish (白鲟) in the Yangtze River, may have become extinct. And there are now less than 500 green peafowl (孔雀) in the wild, reported CCTV in June.
To protect endangered animals, measures have been taken in China and progress has been made. For example, China has banned the use of rhino horn and tiger bones; and ivory (象牙) trade, reported China Daily. It also emphasizes increasing public, awareness by holding activities when celebrating the World Wildlife Day.
But more efforts are still needed to protect wildlife in China and around the world. “We are the first generation to know we are destroying our planet and the last one that can do anything about it,” WWF UK Chief Executive Tanya Steele told CNN.
【1】What did the Living Planet Report point out?
A.The loss of animal populations has sped up over the past decade.
B.China is losing more animals than any other country.
C.The animal population will decrease by 60 percent in the next decade.

【2】What is a main cause of the loss of the fish population, according to the Guardian?
A.Over-hunting. B.Food shortage.
C.Climate change. D.Environmental pollution.
【3】What can we learn from the last two paragraphs?
A.China provides a model of animal protection for other countries.
B.China has made some progress in protecting endangered animals.

29、Sitting straight at his desk, Sami Sabeaallil turns on the lights, places his mobile phone on a selfie stick and starts greeting his viewers. “Hi everyone, this is Sami,” he says in Chinese. “I will recommend you some toys tonight…”
Every day, Sami livestreams (网络直播) on Douyin (China’s domestic version of TikTok) for one or two hours, promoting his toys to Chinese buyers. Based in Yiwu City, the world’s largest trading center for daily consumer goods in East China’s Zhejiang Province, the 22-year-old said he is likely the first foreigner to get into livestream selling in Yiwu and take advantage of China’s skyrocketing e-commerce industry.
Sami has been selling his toys on his Douyin account since last June. Most of his videos are about his products or show him hanging around Yiwu’s markets and cracking jokes. For a video he published last October, he invited dozens of foreigners from various countries to express their love for China, which got nearly 30,000 likes.
As a young Chinese-speaking foreigner, Sami attracts much attention on China’s social media. He now has only about 28,000 followers on Douyin but his goal is to have 10 million followers within two years.
The COVID-19 pandemic is severely hitting the economy of many countries and has caused great losses among Yiwu’s producers and suppliers. Sami decided to try livestreaming and look for more Chinese domestic buyers via Douyin. As an owner of a Yiwu-based toy company, Sami used to have half of his orders from overseas. However, overseas orders have not been satisfactory in the past year, so he is gradually shifting his business to Chinese market as the epidemic situation in China has largely improved.
A few potential buyers have reached Sami and one of them bought over 100,000 yuan ($14,860) of toys from him, which Sami described as “a good beginning.”
Sami is not the only foreigner in Yiwu interested in livestreaming promotion. According to Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College, quite a few of its 140 overseas students say they will try livestreaming e-commerce industry after graduation.
The college is offering its overseas students courses on China’s livestream selling market, which include how to attract more followers, how to select suitable products, how to interact with audiences and how to shoot and edit short videos.
【1】Why did Sami start livestreaming?
A.To increase the sales of his toys.
B.To build a reputation in his field.
C.To catch up with the Internet trend.
D.To be the first foreign livestreamer.
【2】What do we know about Sami’s videos on Douyin?
A.They made him world famous.
B.They showed his love for China.
C.They attracted a number of followers.
D.They recorded people’s lives in Yiwu.
【3】What is the consequence of COVID-19 for Sami?
A.He has closed down his toy company.
B.His overseas orders decreased by half.
C.The number of his followers has fallen sharply.
D.He makes efforts to attract more Chinese buyers.
【4】What is the function of the last paragraph?
A.To provide background information.
B.To summarize the previous paragraphs.
C.To introduce a new topic for discussion.
D.To call on people to use more livestream.

40、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
In 1971, China’s first subway line in Beijing was formally put into operation. By December 2017, there were 171 subway lines stretching over 5,083 km in 35 cities on the Chinese mainland. Currently, China has the longest urban railway network in the world, which is predicted to surpass 6000 km by 2020.
The rapid development of China’s urban railway system reflects the country’s growing economic strength. The system has experienced the fastest growth over the past 15 years due to the investment of wealth accumulated from the reform and opening up in urban infrastructure construction. An urban railway system is expensive to build, with one kilometer of subway costing approximately 700 million yuan ($110 million). A city without economic strength cannot develop such an expensive system.
The progress in urban railway construction technologies has also contributed to the fast expansion of the infrastructure. Subway construction involves building underground tunnels, laying rails, manufacturing trains and the operation and management of subways. It is a systematic project which not only covers traditional infrastructure building but also modem electronics and information technology. China s railway construction technologies are the best in the world, with Chinese subway trains now exported to developed countries including the United States.
The expansion of Chinese cities has made it necessary to develop urban railway systems. Since the start of the reform and opening up, a large number of people have migrated to cities and the number of private cars has increased dramatically, resulting in serious traffic congestion. Building subways has become an important way to solve this problem.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of China’s reform and opening up, and the rapid development of China’s urban railway system exemplifies the achievements made by the policy. As China furthers its opening up, it will continue to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and railway systems will be available in more and more cities.
