26、How might architecture aid in solving the housing crisis and help build a more sustainable future? In 2019, 3D printing company WASP and Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA) revealed their concept to design the first 3D printed house made entirely from clay. Today, the joint project, known as TECLA, is finally complete and on display near Bologna, Italy.
Over the past few years, a number of 3D printed homes and communities have been conceptualized. While previous structures were made from concrete or plastic, TECLA was built from soil found at the site mixed with water, fibers from rice husks (壳) and a binder (粘合剂), the last of which is less than 5% of the total volume. Printing with clay does have its weaknesses. It’s a much slower process than quick-drying concrete — the design can be printed in 200 hours but the clay mixture can take weeks to dry, depending on climate, and it also has height limitations.
Building homes from earth, Cucinella pointed out, is not new. “The challenge was really using an old material in the history of architecture with new technology to find a new shape of a house,” Cucinella said. To that end, the Crane WASP printers mixed water with the local earth, and then printed the 60-square-meter TECLA model layer by layer. The design features two circular spaces joined together with skylights, inviting full natural light inside. The residence includes a living area, a bedroom and bathroom. Its furniture, including tables and chairs, can also be printed using WASP’s machinery, while components like doors and windows were fixed post-printing.
The idea behind TECLA isn’t necessarily to copy the same home for any environment, but to adjust the design based on the location. “We are not producing one type of house that you can print and use everywhere, because it’s different if you design a house in the north of Italy, or in the middle of Africa,” Cucinella explained. “The house responds to different climates.” Additionally, the building process can be easily taught and widely used.

27、 In my opinion, classical music is a bit like mushrooms! You don't see the link? Let me explain. When I was a young girl, I didn't like mushrooms. They had a horrible texture and no taste at all, and I used to pick them out of every dish in which my mum tried to hide them. But gradually, as I got older, my view changed. I started to enjoy mushroom-flavoured things like soups and sauces, and eventually I found I could eat mushrooms without grimacing. And now I even quite enjoy them! So my mum's prediction that I would "grow into them" has proved quite correct.
Similarly, I always thought of classical music as a boring genre that only grown-ups liked. Whenever my parents played it in the car, I would count down the minutes until we could change it to my preferred genre: pop. But while at university, I found that calming orchestral music was just the thing for library revision playlists—it had no lyrics (歌词) to distract me, and the pieces tended to be very long: perfect for long work sessions!
Recently, my developing relationship with classical music reached a new level when I voluntarily chose to go to a ballet. Admittedly it was the dancing that originally attracted me, but once there I thoroughly enjoyed the music too. It was The Nutcracker, and I was surprised by just how much of the music I recognised! The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Russian Dance, The Waltz of the Flowers—they all sounded familiar. I didn't know how I knew them, I just knew that I did! And I loved them. My parents would be proud.
【1】Why does the author think classical music is a bit like mushrooms?
A.Because they are both boring.
B.Because they both interest grown-ups.

C.It was great background music. D.It was perfect for relaxation.
【4】What do we know about the author in paragraph 3?
A.She was familiar with the dance.
B.She became a fan of classical music.
C.Classical music became her favorite.
D.Her parents were unhappy with her change.
28、One day a heavy storm hit a village. Nothing was destroyed, but a rock fell from a nearby mountain. The rock rolled down from the mountain and stopped in the middle of the main road in the village. It was very big and shaped more or less like a ball. The village decided to move it since it was blocking (阻塞) the street. Several of the strongest men in the village came to try to lift it out of the road. No matter how hard they tried though, they couldn’t move it.
All of this time a young boy was watching the men trying to move the rock. “Excuse me,” he said, “but I think I could move the rock.”
“You?” They shouted. “What are you talking about? All of us have just tried, and even together we can’t move it a bit.” They all laughed at the boy.
The next morning some villagers came into the street. To their great surprise, the rock was gone! More people ran out to see for themselves. It was true the rock wasn’t in the road any more.
The little boy stood in the street, smiling. “ I told you I could move it,” he said. “ I did it last night.” Then he walked over to where the rock had been and uncovered some dirt with a shovel (铁锹). “ You see,” he said, “ I dug a deep hole next to the rock, and the rock rolled down into the hole of itself. 29、 The phone rings. It is either for my wife Susan, who’s the only one receiving calls on the home line, or it’s the latest of 300 attempts to sell me something useless.
“Hello,” I say, an edge in my voice.
“Daddy, it’s me.” It’s Alyce, my 12-year-old daughter. “Mommy was in a car accident.”
My heart stops and then begins pounding.
“Are you all right?”
“Yes.”
“Is Mommy?”
A deep sob.
“I don’t know…I don’t think so. Come quick.”
I rush a few blocks to what looks like a shoot for a disaster movie. Fire engines, police cars, and ambulances are randomly parked in the street. A city bus is on the wrong side of the road. In front of it are the torn remains of Susan’s car.
Alyce is covered in tiny pieces of glass but uninjured. Susan isn’t so lucky. But she is alive. She has broken many bones, and spends three months in hospital.
Two years later, Susan and I were at an event at our synagogue (犹太教堂) celebrating Martin Lather King Jr. Our temple’s musical director rushed to us. “There’s a woman here tonight from one of the church choirs who you have to meet!” He returned with an African American woman. She told us she lived in the apartment building by where the accident had happened. That morning, she rushed to the street, and saw Alyce crying. She approached her, asking, “Is that your mom in there?” Alyce nodded, and the woman said, “Let's pray together.” Innocent Alyce looked at this woman wearing a cross around her neck and said, “OK, but you should know I’m Jewish (犹太人).” The woman took Alyce’s hand, held it to her chest, and said, “In here we’re all the same.”
After the accident, she said, she had continued to pray for our family.
We hugged warmly and had our picture taken together. As we were saying goodbye, realizing we had never been formally introduced, she asked me for my name. I told her it was Douglas, and she paused, and then said, “Wait, your name is Susan? And your name is Douglas?” The woman put her hand over her heart. “Oh my goodness,” she said. “My name is Susan Douglas.”

31、Aquaculture—or sea farming, as it is sometimes called—is one of the brightest hopes for finding an answer to the problem of a world food shortage. Although it may be years before sea farming produces large quantities of food, it is already partially successful. One of its successes is the growing of oyster (牡蛎).
Oyster farming is a big new business on Cape Cod, where large crops of oysters have been harvested. The waters there were famous for delicious oysters until the supply gave out about fifteen years ago. “There’s a whole generation of people who have never eaten oysters,” said Karl Touraine, marketing director of Aqua Dynamics Corporation, a company that grows oysters on nylon strings (尼龙绳) hanging from metal frames (金属架). “For about twenty years the oyster has been in short supply, and our aim is to change this by using new, modern growing techniques,” he explained.
“Wareham, on Cape Cod, is the first place in the US where oysters are being grown on frames just off the bottom of the sea,” said Hank McAvoy of the National Marine Fisheries Service in Gloucester. “But there’s nothing new about off-bottom raising,” Mr. McAvoy adds. “It’s been done successfully in Norway and Australia and, in the last few years, in Spain. The Japanese have used this form of sea farming for years, and they’re the most successful, with a yearly crop of more than 46,000 pounds of shelled oysters an acre.”
The Aqua Dynamics group grows oysters on strings, away from the bottom so that the oysters’ natural enemies cannot reach them. “When an oyster avoid enemies and live in unpolluted water with plenty to eat, he’ll grow fast.” Karl Touraine explains. “Oysters will attach themselves to almost anything they can,” he continues. “At Wareham, we use shells which we tie with nylon strings hanging from metal frames. We lower the strings into the water, leaving at least a foot of water between the lowest shell and the bottom.”
“So far the growth has been excellent and the taste is just delightful,” Mr. Touraine notes happily.

THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

Chinese government released an artificial intelligence development plan in 2017, calling on primary and middle schools to promote coding (编程) education, preparing kids for the future artificial intelligence (AI) development. In response to the policy, coding and programming education have exploded amongst Chinese young students creating a large-scale market worth 3 to 4 billion yuan, according to a report released by iReserach in 2018. In contrast to the upward developing trend, Xia Lixin, vice president of Central China Normal University cautions that the industry is facing many problems, including how to evaluate trainers, assess teaching effects and develop effective courses. Programming teachers for children requires not only professional proficiency but also basic teaching skills, Xia noted. In addition, it’s better to guide students hand in hand rather than via video. | At an after-school training center. Son: I don’t want to sign up for any more classes. 41、阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
CLEAN UP YOUR BUTTS AND BAGS
All sorts of items become litter, but two of the most common and most dangerous are cigarette butts and plastic bags. Litter is a big problem for our environment, but it is a problem that individuals can easily do something about. Not littering at all or cleaning up litter, such as cigarette butts and plastic bags, greatly improves the quality of our environment.
Although cigarette butts are small, they are bad for the environment. Over 1,600 billion cigarettes are smoked each year in China and large quantities of the butts are thrown away. Worldwide, about 4.5 trillion butts are littered every year. Apart from the fact that butts spoil the beauty of the environment, they contain some very toxic chemicals. These find their way into the water supply where they decrease the quality of the water and endanger plants and animals that live there. Because there are so many butts and because they can take up to 5 years to break down, the toxic chemicals add up to a large amount. So, if people have to smoke, they should not throw away the butts but put them in the rubbish bin instead.
Plastic bags are another common form of litter that is a danger to the environment. There are several reasons for this. They are made from oil and gas, which are non-renewable resources, if they are not recycled, these resources are lost to us. In China, 2 billion plastic bags are used every day. An enormous number of these become litter. This is a huge problem because they last from 20 to 1,000 years in the environment. They float easily in air and water and travel long distances. They find their way to rivers, parks, beaches and oceans. Plastic bags kill up to one million seabirds, 100,000 sea mammals and countless fish each year worldwide. When the animal dies and breaks down, the plastic bag can become free again to kill another animal. It is up to people not to let plastic bags become litter. It would be better if they used fewer and recycled them.
Cleaning up your cigarette butts and plastic bags would improve the environment. The earth would be a better place because it would be less polluted. And we would know that we were doing something to look after our planet. However, I believe the best solution would be not to smoke or use plastic bags at all.
